This is really quite ridiculous and funny stuff.

We have a pack of high school juvenile delinquents here. And it's not your ordinary group. It includes a gorilla, which is completely unexpected. There's also a robot, adding a touch of the futuristic and strange. And then there's a guy who looks like Freddie Mercury.

With such an odd combination of characters, you just know that hijinx are going to ensue. It's hard to imagine what kind of crazy and chaotic situations they will get themselves into.

Maybe the gorilla will cause some mischief with its strength, the robot will malfunction in a hilarious way, and the Freddie Mercury look-alike will start singing and dancing in the most inappropriate places.

Whatever the case may be, it's sure to be a wild and entertaining ride.

This is really cute. It gives the impression of a webcomic, and not simply due to the short page counts.

The absurdist "how dumb can these guys get" gags are quite funny. However, I have the feeling that they would be even funnier if you only read them every now and then, just like a webcomic.

Rather than reading them all at once in a collected edition, a more sporadic approach might enhance the comical effect.

When you read them in a batch, it could potentially dull the impact of each individual gag.

By spacing out the readings, you can better appreciate the absurdity and humor of each one.

It's like savoring a delicious treat one bite at a time instead of wolfing it down all at once.

Overall, while the gags are entertaining, the way they are presented and consumed can have an impact on the level of enjoyment.

Cromartie High School - which I came into because of the anime - is truly a unique series.

It's one of those shows that polarizes viewers. Some people absolutely love it due to its absurdity and the lack of a coherent plot. They enjoy the randomness and the wacky situations that the characters find themselves in.

On the other hand, there are those who despise it for the very same reasons. They prefer a more structured and linear storyline.

I haven't read past this volume in the manga as I don't own any others. However, the anime, which consists of 12-minute or so "episodes", never seems to settle down to a proper plotline like Excel Saga, Vol. 1 does. This makes me doubt that Cromartie High School will ever develop a serious plot line.

But you know, sometimes this lack of a serious plot can be a good thing. Each chapter is really short, and aside from some character situations that make more sense when read chapter by chapter, like why Maeda is looked down upon, why Kamiyama is considered a "badass", and who the heck "Freddie" is, you can randomly start a chapter, read it, and then put the book away again for weeks or months.

I had apparently read as far as chapter 4 in the book before I put it away (years ago), and when I picked it back up again, I had little trouble getting back into it.

Overall, Cromartie High School is a series that has its own charm, whether you love it or hate it.

Cromartie High School is an outstanding comedy show that truly stands out.

I initially began reading the manga after rewatching the anime, and let me tell you, the anime was executed extremely well. It had a certain charm and energy that really drew me in. However, after delving into the manga, I found that it is not far behind at all. The art style and the way the story is presented in the manga are also quite engaging.

Nevertheless, there is one aspect that did bother me. The mangaka has a tendency to disrespect the fourth wall and immersion by frequently talking to the reader on every few pages. This can sometimes break the flow of the story and pull you out of the fictional world that has been created.

Despite this minor flaw, if you have a penchant for absurd and surreal humor, then you should definitely give Cromartie High School a try. Whether it's through the anime or the manga, you are bound to have a great time and be entertained from start to finish.

The idea that jokes don't need to be punctuated with goofy, over-the-top expressions is truly a revolutionary concept for a gag manga in 2000. It's really great stuff.

In the first chapter, the scene where the guy eats one pencil and then a whole handful of pencils is still mind-blowing. The quality of the jokes may vary from chapter to chapter, and sometimes it can get a bit too text-heavy. However, I never have a bad time reading it.

On a side note, it's quite strange how this series was never completed in the US. And more importantly, why haven't any current US publishers snatched up the rights to it? There could be many reasons for this. Maybe the market wasn't ready for such a unique style of gag manga back then. Or perhaps there were some licensing issues that prevented its full publication.

Whatever the case may be, it's a shame that this series didn't get the full attention it deserved in the US. It has a lot of potential and could have been a hit if given the proper opportunity. I hope that one day, a US publisher will recognize its value and bring this hilarious manga to a wider audience.

The first volume of this series initially presented a bit of a challenge for me to fully engage with. This was mainly due to the rather unusual pacing and sense of humor of manga-ka Eji Nonaka. However, around the halfway mark, as I managed to attune myself to his unique style (and perhaps also when Nonaka truly hits his stride), his high school comedy set in the toughest all-boy's school in Japan really starts to come alive.

Each subsequent volume has shown an improvement over the previous one. By the fifth volume, the story has evolved into something truly captivating. The characters have become more developed, and the comical situations they find themselves in are both hilarious and relatable.

Nonaka's ability to blend elements of action, comedy, and drama in such a seamless way is truly remarkable. It keeps readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating what will happen next. Overall, this series has become a favorite of mine, and I can't wait to see what else Nonaka has in store for us.

Mumpung lagi kepingin baca delinquent-manga, akhirnya baca ini juga.

However, compared to other manga that are full of fighting scenes, this manga is actually a gag manga. There are no fighting scenes at all (even if there are such stories in it, the mangaka skips them, and the characters involved know that they have already been scored). In fact, it can be said that most of the content is conversations.

And of course, it's absurd.

Not only are there naughty children whose badass image is less convincing compared to those in other delinquent schools like Suzuran or Hanasaki, but we also have students from Freddie (Mercury?) School, gorillas, and various robots.

Moreover, Eiji Nonaka loves to attach the names of celebrities to his characters.

Yutaka Takenouchi? Ken Hirai?

Gimme a break. LOL.

The original statement "not quite as funny as it seems like it's being" is rather concise. Let's expand on this idea.

At first glance, a particular situation or event might give the impression of being highly amusing. However, upon closer inspection, it may not be quite as funny as it initially seems like it's being. There could be various reasons for this. Maybe the initial perception was based on a quick reaction or a surface-level understanding. As one delves deeper, the true nature of the situation might reveal aspects that are not so comical. It could be that the humor was more in the moment and doesn't hold up under further examination. Or perhaps there are underlying factors or implications that change the perspective and make the supposed funniness less pronounced. In any case, it's important to look beyond the initial appearance and consider the full context before concluding that something is truly as funny as it seems like it's being.

I just completed this book this morning and I am simply unable to contain my excitement and anticipation for volume 2.

The characters within the story are truly hilarious and full of surprises. There are numerous references scattered throughout the text. Many of these references I failed to notice until I perused the translator notes at the conclusion of the book. However, a significant number of them I was able to catch, and I found them to be extremely clever.

The entire reading experience was filled with lots of snickering fun. It was as if the author had a magical touch that made the story come alive and engage the reader on multiple levels.

I can't wait to delve into volume 2 and see what new adventures and surprises await me.

I don't know certain things, and yet I just find you. Cromartie is precisely such a thing. It's truly too strange not to be attractive to oddballs.

It begins simply enough. A guy sets out to prove that if one studies hard enough, one can obtain a quality education even in a school for ruffians. However, somewhere between Freddie the gorilla and the machine kid, the plot gets lost. (And good riddance.)

This story seems to take an unexpected turn, leaving the reader a bit bewildered. The introduction of such strange characters as Freddie the gorilla and the machine kid adds an element of the absurd. It makes one wonder where the author was going with this. Maybe it was an attempt to create a unique and memorable world, but in the end, it just feels a bit disjointed.

Despite the lost plot, there is still something about Cromartie that keeps one interested. Perhaps it's the allure of the strange and the unknown. It makes us want to keep reading, hoping to find some sort of resolution or meaning. But in the end, we are left with more questions than answers.
