Reading this series might actually be the thing that kills me.
In this volume, Light and his crew are closing in on both Mello and Near. However, Light's actions have also led Near and Mello to narrow their Kira suspect list down to just one: him. This situation is extremely tense, as I have already mentioned. It's like a ticking time bomb, and I can't help but feel on the edge of my seat while reading.
Actual footage of me whilst reading this series:
As a point of interest, I wonder if anyone who reads Death Note doesn't root for Light/Kira. And if so, why? Secondly, does that mean they can actually read this without getting a metaphorical heart attack every other page? I find myself completely invested in the story and Light's character, despite his morally ambiguous actions. But I'm curious to hear other people's perspectives.
Kira is truly in a complex situation as he is pitted against both Mellow and Near, yet he seems to be playing by the rules of both their game fields. It's简直令人难以置信 (It's简直incredible). He's like a mastermind teaching even the devil himself. However, I'm still mourning the death of L. Damn it! He really deserved better than just having a stubborn heir and a rival to his heir. And to make matters worse, in the anime version, Mellow is like a wooden rag doll. What the hell? In the manga series, he's an actual person with strange taste buds for chocolate, but not in the anime? It's really quite strange and makes one wonder about the differences between the two adaptations.
More of the same, but this one, at least for me, was more captivating and entertaining compared to some of the others. There were enough significant plot twists, realignments of alliances, and yes, major characters being removed from the story to keep the reader on the edge of their seats.
Having (admittedly, slowly yet somewhat methodically) made my way through three-quarters (or, indeed, 75 percent) of the initial run, and having purchased the box set some time ago, there is no longer much doubt about whether I will finish this. And that is relatively uncommon, considering my tendency to walk away from (or lose interest in rather than persevere with) most manga series that I have begun. It is simply a matter of when.
For the record, I still have no clue where it will end up, but for me, that is more of an advantage than a drawback.
