In this volume, Hikaru takes on the challenge of playing Go himself against a plethora of players. As he engages in these numerous matches, he begins to glow little by little. This transformation is truly the most captivating and interesting point of this manga.

On the other hand, Akira has a strong desire to play against Hikaru once again. Driven by this motivation, he makes the decision to join the Go club of Kaio. His intention is to have the opportunity to face off against Hikaru at some point in the future.

The anticipation builds as we wonder how Hikaru's skills will continue to develop and what the outcome will be when he finally confronts Akira in the Go club of Kaio. This adds an extra layer of excitement and drama to the story, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

Yumi Hotta's Hikaru no Go: First Battle (ViZ, 1998) is an engaging read.

Hikaru has created a rivalry with the nearly professional go player Akira Toya. Although his appearance in the first go tournament led to his team's disqualification, he didn't disgrace himself. Now, a year later, Hikaru is actually enrolled in Haze middle school. However, he refuses to play against Akira again. As a result, Akira has no choice but to go against his father's wishes and join his own middle school's go club to meet Hikaru in middle school tournaments. Interestingly, Akira's father, Meijin, has played a few moves with Hikaru himself and is as curious as Akira about the boy's talent.

This story is truly great stuff and well worth your time. It offers an exciting look into the world of go and the development of the characters. The rivalry between Hikaru and Akira adds an extra layer of tension and drama, making it a captivating read from start to finish. ****

The manga continues to be highly engaging in this next volume.

Not only are there new characters introduced, but there is also an exciting Go competition.

I am truly enjoying witnessing Hikaru's growth as a player under Sai's guidance.

It's great to see that even Akari is getting a bit more page space, which adds more depth to the story.

The anticipation for what's to come is palpable, and I can't wait to see how the plot unfolds and what new challenges and adventures Hikaru will face in the world of Go.

Overall, this volume has once again captured my attention and left me eager for the next installment.

This installment is just as good if not even better than the first one.

The story continues to unfold in a captivating manner, keeping the readers on the edge of their seats.

The characters are well-developed and their relationships add depth to the plot.

The author has done an excellent job of creating a world that is both believable and engaging.

Once again, I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good read.

It has all the elements of a great story - action, adventure, romance, and mystery.

You won't be disappointed.

This series is fine.

However, I find myself not being that invested in the premise.

The story may have its merits, but the initial concept didn't quite grab my attention.

Perhaps it lacked a certain element of novelty or excitement that would have made me more eager to follow along.

Despite this, the execution of the series might still hold some potential.

The characters could develop in interesting ways, and the plot could take unexpected turns.

But for now, my level of investment remains relatively low.

I'll continue to watch and see if the series can manage to win me over as it progresses.

Maybe there are hidden gems within the story that I haven't discovered yet.

Only time will tell if this series will be able to capture my full attention and keep me engaged until the very end.

The second volume flows even faster than the previous one. And I begin to have a considerable desire to try playing Go.

The character design, as well as the premise, if we want, reminds me a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh. Hikaru has hair that reminds me of Yugi's, and he dialogues with Sai just as Yugi did with the spirit of the Pharaoh (even though the latter took possession of his body). The Shogi player who takes up Go to win a small middle school tournament remotely reminds me of Joey Wheeler. And the fact that Hikaru begins to feel the flow of Go moves reminds me of the famous "believe in the heart of the cards".

This connection between the two series adds an interesting layer to my perception of "Hikaru no Go". It makes me wonder if the author was influenced by Yu-Gi-Oh in some way or if these similarities are just coincidental. Either way, it makes the story more engaging and familiar to me as a fan of both series.

I can't wait to see how Hikaru's journey in the world of Go continues and if he will eventually become a master like Sai.

In this re-read of the series, with the volumes that I possess (this was before I completed my own set after years), seeing both Hikaru and Sai again has brought forth a wave of nostalgia.

It's truly remarkable how these characters have remained so vivid in my memory. I've even noticed that they went with the Japanese title of the series, which is a great decision as it avoids any awkward translation.

This series actually had a school life arc, and it was an absolute delight to witness the main characters and the supporting cast starting from scratch and making their way to the top of the go world.

Their journey was filled with challenges, growth, and many memorable moments. However, it will be sad later on when most of this supporting cast is relegated to the background as Hikaru grows his game to another level.

Nevertheless, this only adds to the complexity and depth of the story, making it a truly engaging and unforgettable experience.
