Hikaru participates in the preliminaries of the professional Go test. In this test, Inseis compete with each other to progress to the actual pro Go test. Hikaru has to face opponents he has never played with before, including adults who are also attempting to pass the pro test. Surprisingly, not even Hikaru's mother and grandfather fully understand what it means to be a professional Go player. It is interesting that in this volume, they express their astonishment upon learning that Hikaru aspires to become a professional Go player. Hikaru is gradually taking one step after another, moving closer to finally standing in front of his opponent, 2 dan Toya Akira. As he engages in these preliminary matches, Hikaru is constantly challenged and forced to adapt to different playing styles and strategies.
