Separated since their arrival, Syaoran and his companions find themselves in a difficult situation. They have to figure out how to navigate a country that is split in two. And when the sky literally splits, things become even weirder. Trapped in a battle for a castle that grants wishes, Syaoran and Sakura must not only determine where they have ended up but also if the Fai and Kurogane they are facing are their own or dopplegangers from this world.
I suspect that if I were more familiar with RG Veda, I would have gained even more from this story. However, even just having read the Wikipedia summary of that manga, this alternate take on the main characters still managed to strike a chord with me. The ending was quite something! Now, it's time to move on to the next volume and see what adventures await.
One of my favorite arcs!
After Mokona transported them to the Shura Kingdom, Sakura and Syaoran fell directly into the battlefield between the flesh and blood kings Ashura and Yasha.
Every day, when the moon is at its highest point, both sides are called to this field, and there, they shed the blood of their opponents because it is said that whoever wins the war can fulfill their most fervent wish (probably because of one of Sakura's feathers).
However, a Fay and Kurogane with black eyes seem to be on the side of King Yasha as they immediately attack Syaoran. Thus, King Ashura offers them protection and invites them to his home. After changing clothes and eating something to fill them with energy, Syaoran decides to accompany Ashura to war, with the sole purpose of ensuring if Fay and Kurogane are really themselves. And although their faces are identical, there is nothing to explain why they are attacking them left and right.
Eventually, Ashura briefly explains to them his motives for going to war and makes a deal with the Dimension Witch so that Fei Wong Reed stops knowing the exact location of our protagonists.
But what will be the price for their most fervent wish?
One night later, and without further ado, Ashura fights his way until he reaches Yasha and stabs him in the chest. The volume ends with him embracing Yasha as if they were two lovers.
It should be noted that this volume is full of action scenes that I love and that make it more dynamic. Likewise, it is revealed to us that there are two Syaorans: one of them is with Fei Wong Reed and, curiously, both are connected through the left eye of the traveling Syaoran.
We also have a tender scene between Sakura and him because, although some time has passed since they recovered a feather, Sakura's physical memory remembers the closeness she had with Syaoran and gives him a kiss on the eye, blushing both of them for such boldness.
Undoubtedly, as I said at the beginning, this arc is one of my favorites. The gears start to move and as the story progresses, it gets much better. I can't wait to read the next one!
This volume contains chapters 58 to 65.
