Girls Think of Everything by Catherine Thimmesh is a remarkable nonfiction work copyrighted in 2000. It falls under the Kit Lit category as Nonfiction information book #1.

This book delves into the world of women inventors throughout human history. At the start, the author reveals how in the past, women were prohibited from inventing. Instead, their husbands would claim the "idea" and receive the credit. The entire text is filled with short stories. Each story details how a particular woman invented something and the difficulties she encountered.

One aspect I really liked about this book was the inclusion of timelines at the beginning and end. These timelines listed the dates when women made their inventions, which I found to be a very interesting concept. I firmly believe that young girls should read this book. It demonstrates that women are also capable of inventing. Additionally, it teaches them not to quit, even when others doubt them.

In conclusion, I rate this book five out of five stars! It is an inspiring and educational read that every girl should have the opportunity to explore.

This new edition of Girls Think of Everything, which was originally published in 2000, has undergone extensive revision and updating. It now features stories that vividly spotlight the remarkable diversity of female inventors.

These stories not only include the inventions but also provide in-depth insights into the creative minds behind them. The book begins with an introduction on women as inventors throughout history, setting the stage for the fascinating tales that follow.

Short chapters, with Catherine Thimmesh’s engaging narratives, are complemented by Melissa Sweet’s clever mixed-media collage artwork. Together, they present fifteen inventions and the ingenious thinkers who brought them to life.

Ranging from the famous chocolate chip cookie accidentally created by Ruth Wakefield to the computer compiler invented by Grace Murray Hopper and the space bumper invented by Jeanne Lee Crews, these inventions showcase the breadth and depth of female innovation.

The front and back endpapers present a comprehensive time line of inventions by women from the pre-1800s to the present, providing a historical context for the reader.

The final chapter, “Your Turn,” is especially relevant for aspiring young innovators. It includes valuable information on patenting inventions, as well as details about contests and organizations that can help them turn their ideas into reality.

The back matter of the book includes sources, a glossary, and an index, making it a valuable resource for further research and exploration.

Overall, this new edition of Girls Think of Everything is an inspiring and informative read that celebrates the achievements of female inventors and encourages a new generation of girls to pursue their own creative ideas.

This is an excellent book for older grade school students. It serves as a wonderful "springboard" for those students who are planning to do a report on a famous inventor.

The book contains short stories about numerous inventions by women and girls. One of the last stories is about a 12-year-old who became the youngest patent holder in the US. The stories are concise and focus on the process of how the inventions came into being. What is emphasized is the significant amount of time, along with the trial and error that was often involved.

There is also a one-page summary on the process of filing a patent, as well as additional information that readers can use to seek more details. In addition, there is a timeline of inventions and the women who conceived them (not all of which are mentioned in the book). It is truly a great resource for libraries, school libraries, and parents of budding inventors and scientists.

My personal favorite story is about the invention of chocolate chip cookies. I was debating whether to disclose more than this, but no, it's better to read the story for yourself.

A surprising delight for sure. I had anticipated a rather straightforward and dry review of inventions by females. However, Thimmesh completely exceeded my expectations by presenting a whimsical and witty narrative to enhance the information about each fabulous female inventor. Her writing style brought the stories to life and made the reading experience truly enjoyable.

Adding to Thimmesh's narrative spin on this information were Melissa Sweets' playful, mixed media illustrations. Sweet's use of water colors and a unique collage style was truly innovative. Her illustrations paired beautifully with the stories of the inventors, further enhancing the overall appeal of the book. The combination of Thimmesh's engaging text and Sweet's charming illustrations made this a must-read for anyone interested in the history of female inventors.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with this book. It not only provided valuable information about the inventions of female inventors but also presented it in a fun and engaging way. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an interesting and informative read.

**Biography - Collective: Women Inventors**

This book is a unique collection that can be regarded as partial biographies or memoirs.

It doesn't cover the entire lifespan of each woman but rather focuses on the crucial aspects of their lives related to their inventions. It delves into the process by which these remarkable women came up with their ideas and the significant contributions their inventions made to the world.

It also highlights the trials and challenges they had to face along the way.

What makes this an authentic biography is that all the women discussed are real individuals, and the information presented is factual.

The stories of how each woman's invention came to be are both inspiring and educational.

Moreover, their inventions have a practical impact and are used in our everyday lives.

However, when children read this book, they might have some questions.

They might wonder, "Why are these women inventors not as well known compared to male inventors?"

And also, "Why were women originally not allowed to invent things?"

These questions can spark further discussions and encourage children to think about the role of women in history and the importance of recognizing their achievements.

Love the topic, and truly adore the cover. However, when it comes to the content inside, it feels a bit slim.

It presents a fun mix of things that we encounter in our daily lives. Nevertheless, it fails to provide a clear idea regarding the time period or the location of each woman. Adding something as fundamental as (born state/country, date-date died) beneath the names would offer some much-needed context.

Moreover, it's not really much of a comprehensive survey. I believe almost all of the women featured were American, and they're all white.

It's not strictly about inventions either, and there is some overlap with "Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World" by Rachel Ignotofsky. That book, with its one-page bios, seems to have a better distribution and perhaps a more diverse range of women represented.

Overall, while this work has its merits, there is definitely room for improvement in terms of providing more detailed information and a more inclusive perspective.

I was reading with my daughter.

It was interesting, but there were only a few stories and they were rather short.

It would be really great to read more detailed and expanded stories.

We both enjoy reading, and having more in-depth and engaging tales would enhance our reading experience.

Maybe there could be longer narratives that explore different themes and characters more fully.

This would allow us to immerse ourselves even deeper into the world of books and激发 our imaginations.

Overall, while the current reading material was enjoyable, we look forward to having access to more extensive and captivating stories in the future.

I am really looking forward to sharing this book with my four 8th grade girls.

For the past three years, I have been mentoring them through destination imagination.

It has been an amazing journey filled with creativity, teamwork, and growth.

The girls have shown great enthusiasm and dedication in every challenge they have faced.

Sharing this book with them will not only provide them with new knowledge and inspiration but also strengthen the bond between us.

I believe that through this sharing, they will gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter and be able to apply what they have learned in their future endeavors.

I can't wait to see their reactions and engage in meaningful discussions with them about the book.

It's going to be a wonderful experience.
