In the novel "Mother" by Gorky, we are once again confronted with a tragic reality that is relevant to both the Arab Spring and the current events in many countries. The story is highly engaging as it delves into the themes of struggle and revolution. Gorky begins by描绘 the lives of the workers in a large factory and the oppression they face. Then, he gradually unfolds the story of the mother, who is subjugated to a tyrannical husband and a harsh society. She has a son who is raised by his cruel father and suffers abuse. As time passes, the son grows up to be a revolutionary, along with a group of friends, fighting for justice for all.

The novel is filled with many events, revolutions, and demonstrations. One of the most powerful scenes is the demonstration by the youth on a holiday. Another memorable scene is the burial of a revolutionary, and the escape of prisoners from jail.

The transformation of the mother is also a significant aspect of the story. She starts to take an interest in the cause and begins to think that everything that is happening is right. The society as a whole has become hypocritical, as shown by the quotes from the novel.

Gorky succeeds in creating vivid characters and a strong, mature story. By the end of the work, each character has gained new experiences and has developed. The description of the scenes is beautiful, and you can feel the emotions of the characters. I highly recommend this work to everyone. What are you afraid of losing? Just look at your life! And who do you think you are? God? No, it's power. Goodbye, friends.

The novel has been completed..✔

The theme of the novel is important and rich: it depicts the uprisings of the people and their resistance against tyranny, oppression, and autocratic thinking.

* The role of the mother in the life of her struggling son, supporting him and standing by his side in the face of injustice.

The style of the novel/translation: somewhat successful.

• My personal opinion: What I cannot tolerate in Russian literature in general is the overloading of the novel with details, details, details.. to the extent that I sometimes got distracted and had to reread the page more than once due to the confusion of events.

This novel is one of the important works in the history of Maxim Gorky and Russian literature in general. If you are a lover of his works and of political novels, then this is a good choice.

Romeo and Juliet is a play that describes the atmosphere among young people before the 1905 revolution, all from the perspective of the mother of one of them. However, when viewed from a temporal distance, that is, with the knowledge of what followed after the revolution, it then appears more like a novel about the tragedy of the "little man" and the futility of his aspirations towards ideals, although Gorky wanted to show exactly the opposite.

So much struggle, hope, and community among people in the fight for a better tomorrow, in the fight against the tsarist regime. And when it is finally overthrown, what happens? The children and grandchildren of those who established the new regime, and they themselves just a few years later are thrown into camps, persecuted, brutally tortured by the same regime, and most often for no reason at all, so that they were probably remembering the pre-revolutionary times with nostalgia.

A contradictory book, I could hardly read it to the end...

Warm, tender, and passionate dialogues, captivating ideas that inspire thinking and reflection, wonderful characters who deserve nothing but the utmost respect and appreciation. Beautiful are these sincere, pure, and noble human relationships that aim to超越 the existing geographical limitations and strive to achieve equality for all...

It's really a wonderful story.

It makes me wonder why people lose the truth after spending so much precious time and effort for it, and we have to find the truth again and again.

Some attempts at translating the quotes are provided in the Notes and Highlights.

There was a book that really made me think a lot.

It made me wonder whether a society and a set of deeply ingrained ideas that have been in people's minds for years and generations are changeable or not.

Or whether it is worth a person sacrificing their life for this matter?

And usually, from which layer does this change start?

Overall, it was a good book, but I think some parts were a bit tiring.

I found myself getting a bit bored in certain sections.

However, despite that, the book still managed to raise some very thought-provoking questions.

It made me reflect on the nature of society and the possibility of change.

I'm not sure if I have all the answers, but it definitely got me thinking.

Maybe that's the sign of a good book, even if it has its flaws.

It makes you engage with the ideas and forces you to consider different perspectives.

I'm glad I read it and would recommend it to others who are interested in exploring these kinds of topics.

Gorky went to Tsarist Russia on foot for five years, and this journey had a great impact on his writings, especially in the face of the tragic reality that the Russian people were living in that period. Out of the compassion for the pain of reality itself, his novel "The Mother" was born. In a form that is not without tragedy and ideological grandeur, Gorky tells us the story of the struggle of a number of socialist revolutionaries for the liberation of the working class, and especially focuses on the character of the mother, Pelageya, who gets involved in the revolutionary work as a result of her liberation from the oppression of her husband and her son's enrollment in the ranks of those striving for justice and freedom. One could talk at length about the construction of this character, but it suffices to say that he made her a symbol of the struggle and courage. Generally speaking, the novel is good, despite my lack of interest in different political ideologies. It is almost my first experience with Russian literature, and I recommend reading it.

"Mama" by Maxim Gorki is a remarkable book that delves into the themes of love and dedication towards family and humanity,超越了人物(以及隐含的作者)所宣扬的意识形态。

It is a story about a mother's love for her son and her determination in achieving the desired goals. The mother, beyond being the woman who gave birth to Pavel, represents his homeland for which he fights until his last breath, hoping for a better future.

In turn, the mother also fights for her son's ideals and never gives up for a moment. "Mama" offers a valuable lesson about family, love, and hope, presented in the classic style of Russian literature.

It showcases the deep bond between a mother and son and the sacrifices they are willing to make for each other and for a greater cause. This book is not only a literary masterpiece but also a source of inspiration for readers, teaching them the importance of love, perseverance, and the power of hope in the face of adversity.

A wonderful book indeed! It vividly tells the story of a mother who follows her son into socialism and devotes herself to it wholeheartedly. She is not only kind and affectionate towards her son but also towards all his comrades. The story details how the mother evolves from a woman who fears her husband's beatings and tries to remain inconspicuous to a brave soul who trudges along country roads and courts arrest for the sake of the cause. It is her deep wish to be useful to her son that drives her. She witnesses her son mature into a respected leader, thoughtful and stern. Like any mother, she loves and grieves for him, yet she quickly adapts to her new life of action. Disguised, she travels to many places, carrying books and leaflets. When her son is arrested and exiled, she attempts to distribute his last court speech to the common people but is caught, arrested, and ultimately sacrifices her life in her struggle to convey a message to the masses. Throughout the narrative, we see her unwavering love for her son and her efforts to be a mother to him in his chosen cause. In the process, she comes to love the comrades she gets to know and does her utmost to spread the new ideas of awakening far and wide.

2024 Reread

There is no doubt that Maxim Gorky's mother novel will definitely be in the first row of the best works of the 20th century. We can also say this novel as one of the many inspirations of the Russian Revolution. The story background of the novel is set in Russia in 1905. In that era, with the help of history, we can see that the lives of the Russian working people and peasants were a difficult era under the rule of Tsar Nicholas II and the oppression of the big capitalists, facing unrest and repression. In the same year, due to the strike of the steel factory workers who were fired by Tsar Nicholas II, a peaceful march led by the priest Georgy Gapon was fired upon by the tsar's army. This is what they call "Bloody Sunday". It was an era when the press was not free at all. If we read this novel with an understanding of the intensity of this era of repression, the importance of this revolutionary novel and Gorky's talent will shine through for us.

This is a story about how the life of a middle-aged widowed mother, who is uneducated, scared of everything, and physically and mentally abused by her husband, and has a belief in God, undergoes a transformation against repression. After the death of her father, her son, who follows in her footsteps like her, turns to the revolutionary path due to reading habits and the friendship with the community he lives in. How the mother, without the old fear, bravely takes on the task of her son, who is arrested and then exiled due to illegal struggles against the then government and the use of pamphlets to arouse consciousness, is a revolutionary drama that beautifully tells. The fact that the characters in the novel are all taken from different levels of society and that their conversations reveal their unity and differences in opinions about the revolution shows that Gorky is exploring the mindset of the people at that time, which is remarkable.

When we read it with an understanding of the historical background, it becomes clear how this work was created inspired by real events. Although many critiques have been written about this novel, we should once again take its essence into account for this reread and be inspired to read this book. Even though 120 years have passed since this book was written, the suffering of that working class for which this book was written still exists all over the world, which is a pain.

Good godless commies, this book was truly a slog to get through.

Maxim Gorky was one of the USSR's favorite sons. There's even a park named after him, which shows his significance.

The story of "The Mother" revolves around Pelagueya Nilovna, the mother of Pavel Vlasov. Nilovna, or "the Mother" as she is called in the novel, was married to a brutish man who worked in a factory in a village and was a wife-beater. After he died, she was left alone with her teenage son. Pavel, however, was very different from his father. He was a well-spoken and sophisticated young man who, after getting an education, returned with a heart full of revolution and love for all mankind.

"The Mother" is a pure revolutionary novel. It was written before the Russian Revolution actually took place and praised the glorious workers' revolution that was supposed to free the serfs from bondage and bring justice to both the workers and the masters. The book is filled with the miserable oppression and suffering of the working classes, long and heartfelt speeches with a non-Soviet Christian subtext, and the soapboxing of Pavel, who is the author's mouthpiece, and his friends.

Frankly, it is quite boring. The only positive thing I can say about "The Mother" is that Gorky does a good job of capturing Russia at a particular point in its history and from a particular angle, like a skilled photographer who frames exactly the picture he wants to capture, even if it means leaving out a few things.

Gorky describes the political awakening of the Mother as she proudly watches her son go to prison for his beliefs. He recruits her to the cause of distributing illegal socialist literature to wake up the masses. The book ends with a long trial scene full of more speeches, and then the Mother picking up the cause of her exiled son.

Russia has never seemed like a particularly hospitable place to live. This is no insult to the Russian people, who have endured the worst that history has thrown at them. But one just doesn't associate laughter, light, and joy with a place that went from brutal Czars to brutal Soviets. I can't blame Gorky for not knowing what his revolution would bring, but as a novelist, he was a less entertaining soapboxer than Tolstoy, and his characters are all mouthpieces and plot puppets. I admit that his descriptions are vivid and alternately grim and humorous, and some of my dislike for the writing may be due to an inferior translation.

Still, I can't really recommend this book for entertainment. I don't know why anyone would want to read it unless they are deeply interested in early Bolshevik history or on a Russian literature binge. Two stars is being generous. It's a serious work, but it's just too damn serious and neither entertaining nor, with historical hindsight, convincing.

The renowned novel is written based on the real events of Pavel Vlasov and his mother Pelageya Nilovna's participation in the revolution and its transformation in the context of the Russian Revolution. Essentially, the revolutionary character depicted in the character of Pavel Vlasov is the famous Russian revolutionary Piotr Jamolov, and Pelageya Nilovna is Piotr's mother Anna Kirilovna.

The story development of the novel is extremely slow. It often gets boring while reading. However, it will be clearly seen how the revolutionaries carry out their work secretly. Their way of life will also be known.

Facing the judgment of Game of Thrones, do you remember Tyrion Lannister's iconic speech? In a similar scene, Pavel Vlasov has an extraordinary speech about socialism while standing in the courtroom at the end of the novel!

I liked this work not because the author has presented a thrilling novel, along with amazing characterizations and detailed descriptions to his readers, nor because we will encounter a beloved and unexpected work. The point that the author has been able to convey well to his audience in this work and ensure its permanence in literature is a sensitive feeling that he wants them to face the existing conditions and beware of recording and slowness, that regardless of age, class and gender, a person can oppose oppression, exploitation and discrimination, and with a valid voice, cry out for freedom, take his life into his own hands and disturb and confuse the tyrants.

This work makes us think deeply about the human condition and the power of the individual to make a difference. It shows that we should not be passive in the face of injustice but should actively strive for a better world.

The author's writing style is engaging and captivating, drawing the reader into the story and making them feel as if they are part of it. The characters are well-developed and relatable, making it easy for the reader to empathize with their struggles and desires.

Overall, this is a remarkable work that has the potential to have a lasting impact on literature and society.
