I don't usually read short stories. However, someone gave me this collection a long time ago.

Recently, while waiting for my dog to be groomed, I needed something to read. So, I thought I'd give this short story collection a try.

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it. The stories were quite varied, and some were even better than others.

Among them, "Broken Routine" was my absolute favourite. I would highly recommend this collection to others.

After this experience, I have decided to explore more short story collections. In fact, I just ordered "Bazaar Of Bad Dreams" by Stephen King.

Maybe I'll also give a Jeffrey Archer novel a try. I'm looking forward to seeing what other great reads are out there.

'Broken Routine' was a thought-provoking story about the importance of change and adaptation. 'Henry's Hiccup' was a lighthearted and humorous story that made me smile. 'A Matter of Principle' was a powerful story about standing up for what you believe in. And 'The Hungarian Professor' was a fascinating story about a brilliant mind and his struggles.

The rest of the stories in the collection were also fine, each offering something different and unique. Overall, this is a great collection of short stories that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys reading.

A Quiver Full of Arrows

I have a great affection for all the stories in this collection. Especially, I am deeply drawn to 'Old love'. In this story, the two protagonists are each other's source of strength and courage. Their relationship is so touching and inspiring. Another story that catches my attention is 'The perfect gentleman'. People like Edward, the character in this story, are truly rare in the entire world. His noble qualities and kind heart make him stand out.

All the stories are extremely well-written and highly interesting. What I particularly love about them is that none of them has a weird or a very predictable ending. Each story takes unexpected turns and twists, keeping me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

Of course, I would wholeheartedly recommend this collection to everyone. Whether you are a lover of romance, mystery, or just good storytelling, you will surely find something to enjoy in these pages.

It is a literary gem that is not to be missed.

It was an absolutely wonderful collection of stories penned by Jeffrey Archer. Each story within the collection had its own unique charm and allure. However, my personal favourite among them was THE LUNCHEON. This particular story seemed to have been somewhat influenced by Somerset Maugham, which added an extra layer of depth and sophistication to it. The way Archer weaved the tale, with its engaging plot and well-developed characters, truly captivated my imagination. It took me on a journey filled with anticipation, surprise, and ultimately, a sense of satisfaction. THE LUNCHEON is a prime example of Archer's remarkable storytelling abilities, and it left a lasting impression on me.

Amusing, entertaining, and witty - Jeffrey Archer is truly talented in writing short stories.

Each of his stories has a unique dynamic that continuously engages the reader's attention.

Here are my top 3 picks:

1) "The Luncheon" - A reminiscence of an established author is triggered at a New York party when he meets his biggest fan from earlier days.

2) "The Hungarian Professor" - A memory transposition of an Englishman towards an enigmatic Hungarian professor he met during an athletic championship.

3) "The Chinese Statue" - A proudly displayed heirloom is being auctioned off to pay its present owner's debts. The history of how this statue came into the family's possession is as interesting as the truth revealed after the authenticity check and value appraisal. It is a great choice to place this as the first chapter.

Ps. I concur with some reviewers that Archer should focus more of his efforts on short story writing. This would allow him to further showcase his talent and creativity in this genre.

Overall, Jeffrey Archer's short stories are a delight to read and offer a diverse range of themes and characters that keep the reader entertained from start to finish.

Well,

here was a total change of pace as our book discussion group delved into a collection of short stories!

What a great choice this particular collection proved to be.

Archer writes in a style that quickly captures the reader's attention and manages to slip in a twist, or surprise ending, or clever coincidence.

I loved all of the stories in this book. Each one was unique and engaging, with well-developed characters and interesting plots.

Although if I had to pick a favorite it would have to be Broken Routine - the twist is delicious!

It completely took me by surprise and left me wanting more.

I will definitely be reading more of Mr. Archer's works.

His ability to craft such captivating stories is truly remarkable and I can't wait to see what else he has in store for us.
