Once again, I wasn't expecting to like a book as much as I liked this one.

In fact, it was the first time it happened to me that I picked up a book at 10:30 in the morning and finished it at 1:15 the same day... less than 4 hours to read a 208-page book.

From the beginning of the book, we noticed a lightness in the writing that makes it difficult to resist reading one more page and another.

This is the story of Jennifer and Sam, her grandmother and best friend. Jennifer is a columnist for the Chicago Tribune and lives alone after losing her husband Danny a year and a half ago. She lives alone and withdrawn in her own grief. The only one who comforts and encourages her is her grandmother. One day, Jenny receives the news that her grandmother has a thrombosis and is in a coma.

When she arrives at her grandmother's house, Jennifer finds a stack of letters that will help her open her heart and get to know and give herself to a childhood friend.

However, the pain for Jennifer has not yet ended. After confessing her love for that smiling man with blue eyes, Jennifer discovers that he is also about to leave because he has a terminal illness.

In this book, James Patterson gives us a life lesson by trying to convey to us that feeling that we should fight until the end and until there is no other way out.

Such a unique way to tell a story through the form of letters!! It was truly captivating. I absolutely loved that the audiobook had 2 narrators for Sam and Jennifer. Their voices brought the characters to life in the most wonderful way. The story itself was beautifully written. The author managed to create a world filled with emotions and longing. The relationship between Sam and Jennifer developed in a natural and believable way. If you enjoy a good love story, I would highly recommend giving this a read. It will take you on an emotional journey and leave you with a warm feeling in your heart. You won't be able to put it down once you start.

I had no inkling of what to anticipate as I had no clue who Sam was. I initially assumed it might be an old lover or husband.

Whether my prediction was accurate or not, I won't disclose. However, I will assert that the entire narrative tugged at my heartstrings.

The letters from Sam were both heartrending and astonishing. Jennifer was completely unaware that those letters were waiting for her, and thus she was as shocked as I was.

One thing this book reminded me of is the lasting power of words and how they can cause pain. Sadly, words can endure forever, so we must always be cautious of what we say. (Not intending to be preachy, but this holds true for every living person!)

The letters from Sam and the way they influenced Jennifer enabled her to view life in a different light, both the good and the bad. But at least they aided her in understanding Sam better. And, I firmly believe that they also assisted her in being able to resume living life after a terrible tragedy.

One final comment: James Patterson books are typically quick reads and often lack emotional depth. In my view, however, this one is highly emotional as it brought tears to my eyes.

The first time I read this was a long time ago. Back then, I probably would have given it 4 stars.

This second read has brought a new perspective. I find myself delving deeper into the details and nuances that I might have missed before.

The story seems to unfold in a more vivid way, and I can better appreciate the author's craftsmanship.

There are certain passages that now resonate with me on a different level, perhaps due to my own personal growth and experiences since the first reading.

I'm not sure if my initial rating of 4 stars would still hold, as this second encounter has made me question and reevaluate my previous assessment.

I was given a pile of second hand James Patterson books not long ago. And this particular one was among them. I had no idea that he wrote romance novels. But my goodness, it was really, really good. It was brilliant and amazing. I instantly fell in love with it and devoured it in around 3 hours, from front to back. James Patterson is already one of my favourite authors. And now that I've discovered his romances, I love him even more. It's something different from his thrillers and crime novels.

The book has short chapters, which makes it an easy read. It's a very cute story, but there were parts that had me tearing up and feeling very emotional. The ending was brilliant and cute. It wasn't just one love story, but two. It was a real page turner. I gave it a well deserved four stars. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance novel.
