A friend lent me this book, and as the saying goes, you really can't complain about a free book... but I will anyways :-)

In the prologue, it is established that the main character, Jennifer, had the misfortune of losing her young husband, Danny, in a tragic swimming accident 18 months prior. She mourns that she mostly endured this grieving process on her own, with the exception of the support from two friends. One of those two friends, curiously enough, was also named Danny. Okay, here we have four characters introduced and two of them sharing the same name? It's not a Danny and a Daniel, but both are simply Danny. I had to reread a few pages to ensure I had it all sorted out. This is fiction, after all - couldn't the author have chosen unique names? Why couldn't the friend have been called Bob? David? Charles? Thankfully, the friend Danny was only mentioned in the prologue and never again.

The book delves into Jennifer's journey of learning to love again and her complex emotions when she finds herself falling for a childhood friend who... is dying. Oh, and to add to her woes, her grandmother is in a coma, likely on the verge of death. Fortunately for Jennifer, her grandmother has left her a series of letters chronicling her life, so it's all written down. Of course, Jennifer discovers secrets so astonishing that she isn't sure how to handle them, but eventually, she learns to accept her grandmother for the imperfect woman she was.

The book was a bit too sentimental for my liking, but due to the fact that it was mostly presented in the form of "letters", it was a very quick read.

A truly beautiful story indeed. The characters are all very well-developed, which makes the reading experience all the more engaging. While Sam's ending was perhaps a bit foreseeable, it didn't detract from the overall charm of the novel. In fact, it was a nice touch that added a layer of realism. What happened to Sam could easily happen to anyone in real life, which makes the story relatable. I must admit, however, that I would have liked the authors to explore Brendan's disease a little more deeply. It would have been interesting to learn more about his condition and how it affected his life. But I understand that not every story has to be about medicine. Overall, this is a highly recommendable novel that I would encourage others to read.

It would have been really good if there had been more in-depth character and relationship development. However, overall it was still a good read. You might want to have a Kleenex handy because I definitely had tears streaming down my face while reading it.

The story had its moments that really tugged at the heartstrings. But I felt that the characters could have been more fleshed out and their relationships could have been explored in greater detail.

Despite that, it was an enjoyable read that kept my attention from start to finish. It had a certain charm and emotional appeal that made it worth the time.
