I guess it was alright.

I was on a hunt for something that resembled Stephen King's The Instatute, and I thought perhaps this could be it.

But boy, was I way off.

Everything just seemed so extremely underdeveloped and flat.

Even worse, it was as if Patterson couldn't make up his mind whether he wanted to pen a romantic suspense or a paranormal thriller.

Frankly speaking, the quality of the writing indicates budding talent, sort of like what you might come across in an advanced undergrad level creative writing class.

There was an abundance of potential, but in the end, the story simply didn't gel together.

Having said that, the compelling aspects are sufficient to maintain my interest in the series. We'll just have to wait and see what unfolds.

I found that the beginning of this thing was a little slow.

However, it managed to keep my interest throughout the entire process.

As I progressed further, I became more and more engaged.

By the time I reached the end, I simply couldn't put it down.

The story or whatever it was had gradually drawn me in, and I was completely hooked.

It was like a slow-burning fire that eventually blazed into a full-on inferno of excitement and curiosity.

I was eager to see how it would all conclude, and the anticipation kept building until the very last moment.

Overall, despite the sluggish start, it turned out to be a truly captivating experience.

This is my very first James Patterson book, and I have to say, I absolutely loved it.

It was such a quick read that I couldn't put it down.

The story is filled with loads of non-stop action that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

There are also lots of children in the book, which adds an interesting dynamic.

And then there are the crazy scientists who are messing with DNA, which leads to some truly amazing and unexpected things.

The most fascinating part is that these kids can fly!

It's such a unique and exciting concept.

If you're looking for a thrilling and entertaining read, I highly recommend this book.

You will definitely like it!

A great fantasy story is like a magical key that unlocks a world of limitless imagination. It takes the reader on a thrilling adventure through strange and wonderful lands, filled with mythical creatures, powerful magic, and heroic characters.

In a good fantasy story, the author creates a detailed and believable world that draws the reader in and makes them feel as if they are actually there. The characters are well-developed and have their own unique personalities, motives, and flaws. The plot is full of twists and turns, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat and eager to find out what happens next.

Whether it's a classic tale like "The Lord of the Rings" or a modern masterpiece like "Harry Potter," a great fantasy story has the power to transport us to another world and make us believe in the impossible. It allows us to escape from the reality of our daily lives and experience the excitement and wonder of a different realm.

This book, in my opinion, was rather extreme and lacked interest.

However, I do believe that with a few adjustments, it could be transformed into a great TV series.

The concept behind the story was quite appealing, and some of the characters were well-developed.

It would make for a decent read for adult audiences who have a penchant for science fiction and drama.

Nevertheless, I did not appreciate all the animals and babies that were killed throughout the book.

This aspect seemed rather gratuitous and detracted from the overall enjoyment of the story.

Despite this flaw, I still think there is potential for this book to be adapted into a successful TV series.

With the right changes and a talented production team, it could become a hit among viewers.

I have read this and I am not ashamed to state I enjoyed it.

It seems there are several reviews here suggesting that enjoying this book or James Patterson's books indicates a low reading level.

This is so condescending. There could be, like me, a lot of people who read fiction (and please remember it's fiction) and desire something that is easy to read and different from their lives. They don't always want to read series books with heavy, deeper meanings that demand a lot of thought or require more effort to read.

This shows our ability to be flexible and enjoy reading a variety of books. It may surprise some of the critics out there. I have read and enjoyed more in-depth or "high" level books such as Jane Eyre, Pride And Prejudice (even before the big BBC production, I hasten to add), Emma, Animal Farm, 1984, to name just a few. But I am also a great James Patterson fan and have read all his books except Daniel X, which I couldn't get into.

Sorry, but I had to say the above regarding the book.

I enjoyed "When the Wind Blows" as it was different from what he had already written and, for me, a new idea.

If you want a light read with interesting possibilities, this is the book to read.

My dad retrieved this book and its sequel from the loft when I initiated my studies on bones.

To be honest, contrary to the prevalent view at present, I had a great affection for the book. I had also perused his more extensive series, Maximum Ride, and was intrigued by how he modified the genetic mixing within them to achieve diverse outcomes.

However, what truly appealed to me was the story itself. The characters were highly relatable, making it effortless to empathize with them and take pleasure in their adventures.

Their experiences and emotions felt genuine, drawing me deeper into the narrative. It was a captivating read that held my attention from start to finish.

Overall, I have a deep appreciation for this book and its author's unique storytelling abilities.

An interesting premise, but I just wasn't all that engaged.

At first glance, the concept seemed promising. It had the potential to draw me in and keep my attention. However, as I delved deeper, something was lacking.

The story didn't quite have the hook that would make me truly invested. The characters weren't developed enough to make me care about their fates. The plot, while interesting in theory, didn't unfold in a way that held my interest.

Perhaps it was the writing style that didn't click with me. Or maybe the pacing was off. Whatever the reason, I found myself struggling to stay engaged.

Despite the interesting premise, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment. I had hoped for more, but unfortunately, it just didn't deliver.

Maybe with some tweaks and improvements, this could have been a great piece. But as it stands, it just didn't do it for me.

A friend of mine, with whom I roomed for a few months over the summer along with my husband, recommended this book to me. She is an absolute fan of James Patterson. I'm not entirely certain that I liked this book. In fact, I'm pretty sure I didn't. However, I did give it a decent rating because the story line was strong and original.

The story developed well, and the writing, including the vocabulary, grammar, and dialogue, was of good quality.

I'll provide a brief overview. An FBI agent on mandated vacation arrives in Colorado (not where he is supposed to go but rather avoid) to quietly follow up and investigate a case he has been taken off. Additional murders related to the case occur. He meets a local veterinarian who discovers a surprising girl in the woods. This girl has wings for arms and a horrifying story. Together, they work to save the girl and bring an end to his case.

This book is not for the overly empathetic or easily frightened. The story line is extremely well developed and thought out, and it builds in a good way. However, the events can be difficult to take if you've never read a book like this before. I'm not into human experimentation, but as you might have guessed, that is a topic in the book. Also, the fact that children were killed was hard for me.

You do become very attached to the characters, which is a sign of good writing on the author's part. I also liked how he switched between the three characters, even though the veterinarian was the first-person perspective. I liked being able to see what the characters were seeing and feeling and was able to connect with them on an emotional level. You wanted to see everyone succeed and be happy, but that wasn't possible, and you (the reader) absorbed the horror and grief the characters felt. That's probably why I wasn't a big fan. There wasn't a lot of happiness in the book, and therefore it was somewhat depressing to read.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes thriller stories or is a James Patterson fan. Also, anyone interested in psychology or crime novels might be interested in this as well.

There is a sequel to the book called The Lake House. I don't plan on reading it, but I did look up a summary to see what happens to the characters in this book. I was happy with how it turns out at the end of the second book, but I'm not drawn enough to read it.

This book was a little too far-fetched for my taste.

I found myself constantly thinking that there would be some interesting twists or explainable motivations that would make the story more engaging. However, as I continued to read, it only got more absurd and difficult to believe.

Despite this, the only thing that kept me reading was Patterson’s adept storytelling. His writing style is so engaging and his ability to create vivid characters and exciting plotlines is truly remarkable. Even though the story itself was a bit of a stretch, I couldn’t help but be drawn in by Patterson’s masterful storytelling.

Overall, while this book may not have been to my personal liking in terms of the plot, I still have to give credit to Patterson for his excellent writing skills. I would definitely consider reading more of his work in the future to see if he can create a story that I find more enjoyable.

I embarked on this book as a buddy read, which was divided into several shorter segments.

While I relished the idea of reading a bit each day, I found myself constantly yearning to read beyond the designated cutoff point.

So, what did I end up doing? I abandoned the buddy read and simply forged ahead to finish the book on my own.

I firmly believe that being able to read it without any interruptions was the secret to my intense enjoyment.

Since it's such a quick read and becomes highly action-packed as it unfolds.

Was it entirely unrealistic? Without a doubt! But was it incredibly enjoyable? Absolutely!

I truly adored Frannie, and her love for animals was simply beautiful.

The relationship between the two adult main characters and the little girl filled me with warmth and fuzziness, which is no easy feat.

I most definitely enjoyed this book and intend to continue with the series.

Thanks to Ashley, Corinna, and Jini for allowing me to desert our buddy read without making me feel guilty. It is truly appreciated! ♥️
