A real thriller unfolds, revealing the disturbing activities within secret biochemistry labs. These labs are conducting experiments on newborn children by inserting embryos with modified DNA into women. After the children are born, the mothers are told that their babies have died, while in reality, the offspring are taken away for research.

In this case, the DNA is sourced from birds, resulting in the children being born with wings and the ability to fly. The ultimate purpose of these experiments is to auction off the successfully transformed children to corporations and labs worldwide. However, a major problem arises as the unsuccessful experiments are callously killed off. Even more alarming, those scientists who have second thoughts about these unethical practices are also being eliminated.

Patterson asserts that these experiments are well within the current capabilities of science. The book progresses at a rapid pace, captivating the reader and leaving them eager to discover what will happen next, compelling them to keep reading. Interestingly, this book was written in 1998. I recently discovered that his book "The Lake House" serves as a sequel. I have now begun to read this continuation to further explore the thrilling story.

Whoa, this one really threw me for a loop.

I was initially expecting just another ordinary Patterson book. However, when it started delving into the children who were genetically altered to possess the ability to fly, my interest was immediately piqued.

I won't spoil too much of the story here, but I must say that I liked it nonetheless.

Back in the day, I went through a bit of a James Patterson kick for a while. So, please excuse the sheer number of his books that I've read.

I think anyone who has read his works will agree that they are not overly difficult or challenging. However, they are highly entertaining, filled with suspense, and constantly keep you turning the pages. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of his books that I've read, mostly during vacations or in between reading some of the longer and less interesting books.

He never fails to disappoint, and the thrills are always there.

Just like all the great novelists in history, we need the James Pattersons of the world just as much!

GREAT BOOK

Jim says this book is not the beginning of the MAXIMUM OVERRIDE SERIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. However, I disagree. The characters in this book were scientifically mutated humans, and the Maximum Ride series is really the same thing. Both this book and the MAX series are great. I highly recommend giving it a read. I loved it when I first read this book, and I was really mad because there was no book two. But, lo and behold, 10 years later, the Maximum Ride series came out. It's truly amazing. Anyway, these are great reads that are sure to capture the attention of young readers. They offer exciting adventures, unique characters, and thought-provoking themes. So, if you're looking for a good book to read, I suggest checking out either this book or the Maximum Ride series. You won't be disappointed.

I truly don't understand why some people would rate this only one star. In my opinion, it was highly entertaining and great fun.

Yes, there were indeed a few lines that made me roll my eyes due to their cheesiness, but the overall concept was extremely interesting.

The story involves the suspense and mystery of genetics and the manipulation of chromosomes to "upgrade" human life. Babies were being created, and if they weren't deemed perfect, they were euthanized.

Enter Max and Matthew, a brother and sister who are the products of this science project and live in a school that no one knows about. They have never been able to leave and experience the outside world because they are considered "rejects." Although they are "normal" in many ways, they have wings.

One day, they decide to break out of the school and fly away. This causes chaos as people start looking for them. Max then stumbles upon a veterinarian named Franny. The question is, can she be trusted?

Enter an FBI agent named Kit. Together, they attempt to expose the doctors and scientists for their unethical actions.

This is simply a fun form of escapism and fantasy. I absolutely love a fast-paced read that can take me away from the harsh reality of everyday life!

I read this book several years ago, and at that time, I was really impressed by it. So, I decided to re-read it recently because it is one of the two prequel books to the popular young adult Maximum Ride series.

However, to my disappointment, this time around, I found it not as exciting and fast-paced as I remembered. In fact, there were moments when I was actually quite bored.

Moreover, I also noticed that the writing was not as good as I had recalled. There were so many clichés and the author's vocabulary seemed rather limited.

But on the other hand, I have to admit that his practice of creating short chapters, usually three to five pages long, is a really brilliant ploy. It makes it very easy for readers to keep turning the pages and not want to put the book down.

Overall, while this book may not be a literary masterpiece, it still has its own charm and appeal, especially for fans of the Maximum Ride series.

Over the summer, I had the pleasure of reading "When The Wind Blows" by James Patterson, and it truly managed to capture my interest.

It was an exciting and thrilling book that was the result of extensive research. Patterson delved into an interesting topic with great detail, presenting not only a captivating story but also many valuable morals. Just like his other works, this one is a thriller with a dark and complex plot.

I firmly believe that it is advanced enough to be suitable for high school level students, especially those who have a penchant for Science Fiction. The book was not overly difficult to read, and after a somewhat slow start, it picked up pace and moved through the plot quite briskly. My initial impression was that it began rather sluggishly and wasn't as scientifically oriented as I had anticipated. However, as the story progressed, the plot became much clearer, and it started to incorporate more of the scientific elements that I was eager to explore.

This book is a mystery with a scientific backdrop, and it also weaves in a compelling love story. The theme explores not only the enigma of future genetics but also the age-old argument of humanity versus prosperity in the context of science. Patterson's characters are relatable and easy to like, which adds to the overall appeal of the book. Like all of Patterson's other novels, "When The Wind Blows" is full of twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

My only gripe with the book is that it seemed to be lacking in certain aspects of the plot. At times, it felt as if the story was moving too quickly, and some details were left unfinished. Patterson introduced details about certain elements and characters that never really tied into the main plot, giving the impression that the book was somewhat rushed.

The plot can often be quite dark, as it discusses the use of human babies in experiments and describes horrific scenes of dead and dying children who have been mutilated by experimentation. Therefore, someone who is sensitive to the discussion of these topics should probably refrain from reading this book.

Overall, "When The Wind Blows" is an engaging and thought-provoking read that I would recommend to fans of Science Fiction and thrillers.

Weird.

Not a typical James Patterson. His works usually grip readers from the very first page with their fast-paced plots and thrilling twists. But this one seems to deviate from the norm.

The story doesn't unfold in the way we've come to expect from the master of suspense. It has a certain quirkiness that makes it stand out, yet it also leaves us a bit confused.

Perhaps Patterson is trying something new, taking a risk and exploring different literary terrains. While it's refreshing to see an author step out of their comfort zone, it remains to be seen if this departure will be well-received by his loyal fans.

Overall, this is a book that will surely spark discussions and debates among readers, as they try to figure out what Patterson was aiming for with this uncharacteristic piece of work.

Patterson's writing in 'When the Wind Blows' is truly abysmal. His prose is so elementary that it's an insult to good storytelling. While Dan Brown has also been a recent offender of populism, Patterson is far more consistent and arguably the worst of all modern hacks. The plot is a convoluted mess, involving the genetic manipulation of a little girl and two protagonists trying to free her. The romance between the heroes is laughably absurd, the action lacks suspense, and the narrative is cartoonish with contrived plot turns. The characters are as poorly developed as a cardboard box, and the dialogue is inane and consists of brisk three-seven word sessions that go on for pages without any cognitive progress. Even a writer of Patterson's limited capabilities should be able to provide some detail when describing characters, settings, or set pieces, but we get only a foggy impression. An Amazon.com reviewer accurately described this novel as "When the Wind Sucks." A Berenstain Bears book is far more witty, charming, and readable. Spare yourself the waste of time and paper and read literature that is worthy of your attention. Mass market drivel like this contributes to the decline in literacy, and should be avoided at all costs. For those who appreciate great literature, I cannot emphasize enough how strongly you should stay away from this book and its brand of modern "mass market appeal" writing. Your IQ will thank you.

3.5 stars rounded up.

This is an interesting story. Surprisingly, I would have never guessed that it was written by James Patterson.

The only drawback for me was that it felt a little long, which is why I didn't give it a full four stars. However, on a positive note, this book reads quite quickly. The short chapters make it very accessible for the casual reader, especially for those who are busy workers and want something they can easily pick up and put down without losing their place.

The story is about a young veterinarian from Colorado who meets a troubled FBI agent. Together, they begin to uncover the world's most sinister secrets.

This isn't your typical James Patterson book, which was a refreshing change. It's not a scary story, but rather a good mystery that managed to keep me interested throughout.

Overall, it's a decent read that I would recommend to fans of mystery novels.

This book is not a favourite one by James Patterson.

It is definitely nothing like what he has done before.

However, I am still glad to have read it.

If what he says in the introduction is true, then humanity is in for a big change.

James Patterson is a well-known author, and his works usually have unique styles and storylines.

Although this particular book may not be his best, it still has its own charm and value.

The introduction of the book seems to hint at some profound and far-reaching ideas about the future of humanity.

It makes the reader think about the possibilities and challenges that lie ahead.

Overall, despite not being a favourite, this book is still worth reading for those who are interested in Patterson's works or in exploring new ideas about the future.

I truly find myself at a loss when it comes to rating this book. The very premise was a tough pill to swallow - children who were created as genetically enhanced beings with the ability to fly. A clandestine group of unethical doctors utilized these children as experimental materials, concealed at The School, and then eliminated anyone who discovered their secret or endangered their research. Even the genetically engineered children, part bird and part human, were vulnerable to being put to sleep once their usefulness had expired.

I have, in the past, derived great pleasure from reading James Patterson's books. However, in this particular case, there were simply far too many scenes that were outrageously unbelievable and difficult to fathom. The most egregious example was when the main characters were captured and imprisoned in a basement. After undergoing interrogation and being physically assaulted, it居然 seemed like the perfect moment for them to engage in amorous activities. Seriously, give me a break.

Despite the plethora of absurd situations, the book did manage to hold my attention and provide a certain level of entertainment. There was a small twist at the conclusion, but for the most part, the scenarios were rather foreseeable.

If you are in search of a light read and don't demand fictional stories to be highly realistic, then I would suggest giving this book a try. Otherwise, it might be best to pass on this one.
