The second case is a horrific one of an "angel of death" killing people in a municipal hospital in San Francisco, and among the victims is Yuki Castellano's mom. The killer leaves buttons with medical symbols on the deceased's eyelids.

The hospital is already on trial for wrongful deaths, especially a shady doctor who refuses to answer questions about his involvement and instead pleads the fifth.

The case of hospital killings is very real and disturbing, and it makes one feel that this could easily happen. We also get to know detective Warren Jacobi's new partner, young inspector Richard Conclin.

There is an interesting twist as Lindsay questions her role as the Lieutenant, feeling more like a paper pusher instead of actively investigating cases and being present at the scenes.

However, there are some不足之处 in the story. We never find out the motive for the killings of the luxury car girls. It seems that this part of the story was a bit rushed. Also, we never learn how Lindsay discovers the identity of the hospital killer. It is neatly wrapped up at the end without any explanation of how she figures it out.

Overall, it was a good read, but I felt a bit cheated as there were still unanswered questions about the murders.

I'm not sure if my dislike for this book is because I’ve read five of them in the last month and a half... or if it’s because it was truly that bad and annoying. I’m sticking with the latter.

That ending was such a cop out. What the hell. I feel like James Patterson was trying to go for a “WOW” factor, but it didn’t work. First of all, when they noticed the other car parked at Garza’s house, I don’t remember any references to O’Mara being a redhead. I feel like the discovery would’ve been more successful if it was apparent to the readers that she was a redhead or at least what kind of car she drives. Also, having that random nurse being the killer was so annoying. It was obvious it was her from the first moment her character made an appearance (which wasn’t even until over 80% through the book!) It was so annoying!

Finally... that entire mini plot about the car murders was SO unneeded! It was short, random, and confusing. I had to replay the whole Ken/Cherry reveal over several times because I felt like I kept missing something! I.. gah, this book was just SO problematic. The story seemed to lack a cohesive flow, with elements being thrown in haphazardly. The characters weren't developed enough to really engage the reader, and the twists and turns felt forced rather than natural. It's a disappointment considering the author's reputation.
