It was a truly mind-provoking book.

At times, it was highly engaging, captivating my attention and making me eager to turn the pages.

However, I must admit that I'm still disappointed with the plotline.

It had the potential to be something truly remarkable, but it fell short in certain aspects.

The story could have been developed more deeply, and some of the twists and turns felt a bit forced.

Despite this, the book did have its redeeming qualities.

The writing style was流畅 and easy to follow, and the characters were well-developed.

Overall, it was an okay read, but not one that I would highly recommend.

Maybe it's just a personal preference, but I was hoping for more from this paperback.

Hide and Seek by James Patterson is a thrilling novel that delves into the complex and often painful world of celebrityhood.

Hide and Seek was James Patterson’s first non-Alex Cross novel after achieving fame with Among Came a Spider in 1994. After penning three Alex Cross novels, Patterson decided to venture into a standalone thriller to demonstrate that he could succeed without his favorite protagonist. The outcome is a thrilling tale of family mystery and murder.

Maggie Bradford is on trial for murder. Once again. As one of the world's top singer-songwriters, the nation was astounded when her first husband was killed and the evidence pointed to Maggie. She managed to escape on a technicality and, after some time, resumed her celebrity lifestyle. She got remarried. This time, to an athlete-turned-film star who was perhaps even more popular than her. Then, he too was murdered. Hide and Seek is not just a captivating mystery surrounding the murder of famous film star Will Shephard or the legal thriller of Maggie Bradford's trial. It is also an intense drama that explores the impact of fame, fortune, and power. Patterson masterfully weaves together these elements to create a story that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.

This is a book that I read a long time ago when it first came out in the late 1990s.

It is extremely interesting to see the way the juridical courts and their attendants work, such as the judge, lawyers, and jury.

The story is about a rich and powerful woman who is known to millions because of her captivating voice. Her marriage was supposed to be the marriage of the century, as her husband was a famous athlete.

Maggie (I think that's her name... too lazy to go over to the bookshelf to check) is accused of murdering him. As the trial progresses, she is also accused of murdering her first husband by the press.

This book has lots of twists and turns. Maggie hates the lifestyle of the rich and famous, but she cannot live without the adoration of her fans and "friends."

The book is full of wonderful characters, descriptions of the crime scenes, and how the crimes were committed. It is a classic who-done-it and, in my opinion, one of Patterson's best. I would rate it 5 stars out of 5.

It is a great read that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Ok story…

This simple phrase holds the promise of a tale yet to be told. It could be a story of adventure, filled with thrilling escapades and heart-pounding moments. Or perhaps it's a story of love, a tender and beautiful romance that will touch the heart. Maybe it's a story of friendship, a bond that withstands the tests of time and distance.

Whatever the story may be, it has the potential to transport us to another world, to make us laugh, cry, and feel a whole range of emotions. It can inspire us, teach us valuable lessons, and leave a lasting impression on our minds.

So, let's embark on this journey of storytelling and see where it takes us. Who knows what wonderful and amazing stories await us?

Spoiler!
It's truly not the first instance that I have been extremely disappointed with a so-called New York Times Best Seller book. As I was reading, all that kept crossing my mind was, "what on earth is this?"
I sincerely wish I had not read it. Honestly.
Will kills his own brother, his twin, and then disguises himself as his brother. Well, what a twist, for goodness sake!
Maggie shoots Will in his leg, and as a result, Will becomes dumb and is unable to talk.
Maggie's attorney happens to be a secret member of a secret bar, and thus the judge spares Maggie from the charge of murdering her husband, Will.
I simply won't recommend this book to anyone. It seems to be filled with rather absurd and unconvincing plot twists that fail to engage me on a deeper level. I expected much more from a book that holds such a prestigious title. Maybe I just had too high hopes, but unfortunately, this one really let me down.

1/5 stars

I had previously read three other books by James Patterson and thoroughly enjoyed them. However, this particular book has been an utter disappointment!

The plot description seemed highly mysterious and thrilling. It stated that Maggie Bradford, a world-renowned singer-songwriter, is on trial for murdering not one but two of her husbands. Will Shepherd, her second husband, a magnificent athlete and film star, also has dark and dangerous secrets. But as I delved into the book, it felt completely flat. The dialogues were uninteresting, and the characters failed to evoke any likeability.

More than half of the book is dedicated to detailing Maggie's and Will's past, especially the events between the first husband's murder and the second. As a result, the first three-fourths of the book reads like a convoluted love story with the most absurd female lead. I got extremely bored while reading this part!

Only the last bit gives the story a semblance of a crime thriller, but even then, it lacks excitement. The crime and the entire court scene feel too strange, unrealistic, and rushed. Moreover, the scene where the plot twist is revealed is far from interesting. It's as if James Patterson dragged the story by explaining the characters' past and then hastily wrapped up the part that I was eagerly anticipating.

This book fails to live up to the expectations set by Patterson's previous works. I would not recommend it to others.

This was one of my least favorite Patterson novels.

There is nothing objectively wrong with it, yet I simply didn't care about any of the characters.

Most of the story is presented from Maggie's perspective. As a young wife, she had to take matters into her own hands and kill her abusive husband to safeguard her child.

Subsequently, she embarks on a remarkable song-writing and singing career.

However, the narrative unfolds through flashbacks as she sits in jail, awaiting trial for killing her current husband, despite already achieving success.

Rather than coming across as someone who is frightened about the outcome of her trial, she appears snarky and smug.

The ending was disappointingly predictable. It truly wasn't up to Patterson's typical high standards of writing.

Overall, this novel failed to engage me on an emotional level and left me feeling rather underwhelmed.

I initially thought that I would really like this book.

It had a good premise, and Grisham is known to be a good author.

However, oh my gosh, this book turned out to be horrible.

The writing itself was good, don't get me wrong.

But the content in the book was just terrible to read about, especially from Will's point of view.

It was sick and twisted.

I was really disappointed with this book.

I had high expectations, but it just didn't meet them.

The story seemed to lack a clear direction, and the characters were not very likable.

I would not recommend this book to anyone.

It was a waste of my time and money.

I hope that Grisham's future books will be better than this one.

Maggi Bradford, who is she?

She writes songs, composes music, and sings about her own circumstances. She dreams about herself and takes her daughter, Genie, along with her in those dreams. But her husband is like a python, ready to shatter her dreams. What follows is the story of Maggi's rise, fall, and struggle against obstacles.

When it comes to the characters, although Maggi is the main character, she doesn't seem like a very strong character. We can't understand Philip's background. How he got on this path. Similarly, the characters of Patric and Will are developed quite well. The story of Nathan ends with a cliffhanger. We can't quite grasp the theme. Besides, there are other minor issues that keep the book from being completely perfect.

If we rate a thriller, it would be close to 5 even if not exactly 5. But I didn't give it a 4 in Tenet. I gave it a 4 because the translation is as smooth as butter.

Happy reading.
