Years ago, I abandoned Patterson after perusing just 1/5 of this particular book.

It seems that with the author's name constantly gracing the new release shelf throughout the year, it becomes nearly impossible to overlook him.

Consequently, I resolved to give this book another shot.

The first attempt was in audio format, which unfortunately seemed to accentuate the most unappealing aspects of James Patterson.

Namely, the inane dialogues and the utterly implausible villains.

Seriously, I have come across graphic novels and other comic books that boasted more believable villains than Geoffrey Shaffer (also known as the Weasel).

To be fair, it's not quite as intolerable when one sits down and reads the books.

JP's books are crafted to be read quickly due to their astonishingly shallow writing.

One can breeze through a page in a mere 20 seconds and still catch every detail.

On the positive side, Alex Cross is a remarkable protagonist.

His background, his unique family, and his relationship with a school principal are all surprisingly well-developed.

He is also adept at maintaining suspense and masterfully orchestrating his plots.

Regrettably, a book should offer more than just these elements.

As I have informed friends who are fans of this author, I might be more predisposed to liking him if I hadn't delved into a plethora of similar books that were far more gratifying.

Can I just flail instead of write a review? This was an absolute masterpiece, and you should believe me because I don't use that word lightly. Every aspect of this book was simply fabulous. The characters were engaging (and that's saying something considering how often we encounter characters in books), the plot was well-crafted (again, not an easy feat), the plot twists were mind-boggling (who would have thought?), and the ending was a total shocker (in the best way possible).

No really, this book was like fictional quicksand. It sucked me in within a matter of minutes, and I couldn't put it down. I read the back of the book before starting, and when I saw Shafer's name, I thought I knew who the killer was. But boy, was I wrong. There was so much more to the story than just that. I was desperate to find out why he killed them, why he was such a creepy character, and why he chose his victims.

Alex and Christine's relationship was beautiful. They were ~in love~ and had a very mature and healthy relationship. They took their time and really got to know each other. I also loved Christine's relationship with Jannie and Damon. It was a great example of a healthy step-parent/step-child relationship. Parents, if you're in a similar situation, you should definitely read about this relationship. It's a great model.

This series has really opened my eyes to how marginalized groups feel about cops and the justice system. Patterson doesn't have to explicitly say that the cops don't care about marginalized groups. He shows it through the characters and their experiences. It's uncomfortable to read at times, but it's an important message that needs to be heard.

BUT THE PLOT TWISTS. Oh my goodness. They were amazing. Even if you're not really interested in the personal lives of the characters or the social issues, you can still enjoy the book for the plot twists alone. They were that good. I can't remember the last time a book surprised me this much.

The ending was perfect. It was bittersweet, but it was the best possible ending for a book with so much death and sadness. As soon as I finished the book, I wanted to immediately start reading the next one. Unfortunately, it's a 3-hour drive away. But I'll definitely be getting my hands on it as soon as possible.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind a little murder and some gruesome scenes. It's a great read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

What a thrilling ride it has been! I truly relished this book to a great extent. It is the fifth installment in the series and it was simply brilliant.

I am aware that many people do not rate this particular one as highly. The reason being that the writing style is a bit flat and the plot is rather far-fetched. However, I found it to be an absolute delight. The killer in this story was extremely interesting, engaging in a deadly game with people's lives. His unpredictable actions added a great deal of suspense, as no one knew what he was going to do next.

I have a soft spot for Alex Cross. I think he is a really well-crafted hero. He is not infallible, nor does he always make the correct choices. But his heart is always in the right place. The book reads extremely quickly due to the short chapters, and it was really difficult to put down. The story gets increasingly gruesome as it progresses, but it is not overly so. The use of gore is not for the sake of shock factor.

The only criticism I would have is that this book could have been a bit longer. I would have loved to know more about the ins and outs of the game and more about the other players.

The final section of this book was executed perfectly. It was suspenseful, with high stakes and exciting. I thought the ending was a little far-fetched and strange, but it was perfect for me as it was just like a TV drama, and the dramatics were so much fun!

Pop Goes The Weasel was an extremely exciting read.

The serial killer in the story was astonishingly smart. He/she was so clever that not a single piece of evidence was left behind. This made it incredibly difficult to determine who had committed such heinous and hideous crimes.

As for me, James Patterson is without a doubt my favorite author. His writing style is engaging and captivating, always keeping me on the edge of my seat. I have read many of his books, and each one is better than the last. Pop Goes The Weasel is no exception. It is a thrilling and suspenseful novel that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good mystery.

I can't wait to read more of James Patterson's work and see what other exciting stories he has in store for us.

The story has its flaws. The baddies, or at least the main baddie, feel a little too contrived--like a reverse deus ex machina. It seems as if they were just thrown in there without much thought or depth.

However, the courtroom scenes are welcome additions. They add a sense of drama and tension to the story.

On page 47, Sampson said, "Pop goes the weasel." It's an interesting line that makes you wonder what he meant by it.

On page 25, he touched the handle of the magnum that he kept under the front seat. This shows that he is always prepared for trouble.

On page 261, it was taken in the tenth-floor hallway soon after the discovery of Detective Hampton's body. The mystery surrounding his death adds another layer of intrigue to the story.

On page 298, it was described that "Blood was everywhere in the car, and even on the cement floor of the garage." This vivid description gives you a clear picture of the gruesome scene.

Overall, the story has its good points and its bad points, but it's still an engaging read.

Pretty average Alex Cross book. It was rather unremarkable for a significant portion of the story, which actually made me quite mad halfway through. I was starting to lose interest and wonder if it was going to be a waste of my time.

However, to my surprise, it managed to make up for it at the end. The conclusion had some twists and turns that redeemed the overall experience to a certain extent.

Now, I'm facing a tough weekend for reading ahead. I have a lot of other commitments and distractions, and I'm hoping not to fall too far behind in my reading. I really want to keep up with my reading goals and not let this weekend set me back.

I always find myself having a greater affinity for the villains in the Alex Cross series compared to the main character. Alex Cross is depicted as the epitome of perfection - a perfect father, a perfect boyfriend, a perfect friend, and a perfect cop. In the five books that I have read, I have yet to discover a single flaw in him, and this has begun to grate on my nerves. I can't help but roll my eyes during every interaction he has with his family, especially with Christine. She is simply irritating in every aspect, and every description of her leaves me with a sense of indifference.

This particular book had an intriguing plot. Four individuals were engaged in a deadly RPG known as Four Horsemen, and along the way, they became so immersed in their characters that they started murdering people in real life.

However, the execution had several flaws, and Patterson took it a step too far. Consider this: Soneji was in his home, right next to his children. Casanova kidnapped and raped his niece. Jack and Jill killed the president of the USA. But somehow, this antagonist is supposed to be the most dangerous because he took his girlfriend.

The antagonists, on the other hand, were excellent. The main one reminded me of Gary Soneji from Along Came a Spider, and that was enjoyable for a while. After all, rip-offs can never quite measure up to the original.

A solid story indeed.

Many of the premises in this narrative remained consistent. There was the treatment of the residents in the Southeast region, the often contentious relationship with the boss, the budding romance with Christine, the deep love for family, and the added element of someone targeting Alex's loved ones.

Because of this, I initially found the first half of the story to be somewhat slow-paced. However, as I delved into the second half, the pace picked up significantly. I was completely captivated by the horsemen and absolutely blown away by the ending.

The last page did leave me a bit confused as to what it might mean for the future, but overall, it was a good conclusion. I truly love the friendships that Alex has developed and how detailed the stories are. This is a very descriptive series and story, and I simply can't wait to read the next installment!

It's clear that the author has crafted a world that is rich in character and detail, and I'm eager to see where the story will lead next.

A new serial killer has emerged, and his name is Alex Cross. The story is filled with mystery and thrilling turns of events that keep you on the edge of your seat.

This book is the perfect example of a flowing narrative that allows you to completely lose yourself in the story. The plot is told from multiple points of view, including Alex Cross', Geoffrey Shafer's, Bayer's, and Patty Hampton's. Despite the multiple perspectives, the story never feels disjointed or out of place.

One thing I really appreciate about James Patterson's work is that it is always interesting. You don't have to read a third or half of the book to get hooked or excited. From the very first sentence, you are drawn into the story and can't wait to see what happens next. This is exactly how a good book should be.

Overall, this book is a must-read for fans of mystery and thriller novels. It will keep you guessing until the very end and leave you wanting more.

The Alex Cross stories have always been my go-to comfort read.

With their short and fast-paced chapters, I find these books to be a simplistic and engaging read.

In this particular story, I quite liked the villain. The way the character was developed and the set up was truly interesting, which initially hooked me into the narrative.

However, as the story progressed, I started to lose interest around the halfway mark.

The plot seemed to drag a little, and some of the twists and turns didn't quite have the impact I was hoping for.

Nevertheless, it was still enjoyable enough that I didn't mind carrying on with it.

Despite my waning interest, I was curious to see how the story would end and how Alex Cross would ultimately deal with the villain.

In the end, while it wasn't the most thrilling Alex Cross book I've read, it still provided a decent amount of entertainment.

I'm sure I'll continue to pick up future installments in the series, hoping for that same level of excitement and engagement that I've come to expect from these stories.
