I participated in the 2019 Reading Challenge, and for one of the prompts, it required reading two books with the same title. I chose a book by James Patterson, who is undoubtedly one of my favorite authors. In fact, I probably own more of his books than anyone else I know. However, to my surprise, I just wasn't hooked by this particular book. I had high expectations, given Patterson's reputation for writing engaging and thrilling stories. But this one seemed to lack that certain something that usually keeps me turning the pages. Maybe it was the plot that didn't quite grip me, or perhaps the characters didn't come alive as vividly as in his other works. Whatever the reason, it was a bit of a disappointment.

I have read a substantial number of James Patterson books. It is truly a rare occurrence to come across one that bores me to tears. However, this particular one managed to do just that. I persevered and stuck with it, hoping that it would improve as I delved deeper. But alas, it did not.

I found it extremely difficult to identify with the main character. Although I did feel a sense of sympathy for his spinal disability, that alone was not enough to salvage the overall experience.

This book simply lacked the charisma and charm that James Patterson books typically possess. Perhaps this can be attributed to the fact that it was among his first books. It seems that he was still in the process of developing his unique writing style and finding his niche. Nevertheless, it was a disappointment for me as a loyal fan.

I initially thought that this book had an extremely slow start. In fact, during that initial period, I seriously considered awarding it only two stars. It seemed to be taking its time to build up the story and engage my interest. However, as I delved deeper into the book, especially towards the last part, something remarkable happened. The plot thickened, and the events started to unfold in a way that kept me hooked and interested enough to upgrade my rating to three stars.

I have to admit that I'm not a die-hard fan of James Patterson. In fact, I have a bit of a lukewarm attitude towards his works. Nevertheless, somewhat surprisingly, I currently have three of his books patiently waiting for me to pick them up and read. It's almost as if there's a certain allure or curiosity that keeps drawing me back to his writing, despite my initial reservations. I'm eager to see if the other books will have a similar impact on me as this one did, or if they will manage to completely change my perspective on his writing style.

You have done an outstanding job with this book. It is extremely suspenseful and what a thriller it is! I simply couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, the story had me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning the pages to find out what would happen next.

The ending was also loved by me. It was a perfect conclusion that tied up all the loose ends and left me feeling satisfied. You have a real talent for writing, and there is no question that your stories are so much more interesting than those of all the other writers. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

This was an extremely good story.

Stefanovitch is an outstanding detective, and he is quite new to me as this story was published in 1989.

I have no idea whether there are any more books by Patterson featuring Stef. However, I am determined to find out. If there are such books, I will definitely be reading them.

There are no spoilers here, but if you are a fan of Patterson's works, then you should seek out and read this book. It is likely to offer an engaging and thrilling experience that fans of the genre will surely enjoy.
