This is an early Patterson.

It is truly a suspenseful and intricately woven plot that delves into the world of a high-level international crime syndicate. The story grabs the reader's attention from the start and keeps them on the edge of their seats.

However, when it reaches the (potential spoiler) "kidnapping" scene, I find it hard to believe that the police would have been so negligent, especially considering that the victim is such a prominent author as Sarah.

Moreover, it seems highly unlikely that the FBI would not be involved and closely monitoring all calls. Up until that point, I was fully invested in the story and believed in its plausibility.

Despite this one flaw, the book does offer some interesting character arcs. The characters develop and change throughout the story, adding depth and complexity to the narrative.

And in the end, there is a sense of satisfying "justice" that ties up loose ends and leaves the reader feeling somewhat content.

Overall, while the "kidnapping" scene may be a bit of a stretch, this early Patterson still has its redeeming qualities and is an enjoyable read for fans of the genre.

This was an okay read.

This story was published in 1989, a full four years before I was born.

At certain points, I found the story to be truly great, filled with excitement and interesting plot developments. However, at other times, it seemed rather boring and dragged on.

The male lead, John Stefanovitch, was just alright in my opinion. I didn't have any strong feelings towards him, neither liking nor disliking him. I simply felt that his character was rather average.

I really wish that there had been more in-depth characterization for his character. Maybe there could have been something that would have made me able to relate to him in some way.

On a positive note, the ending was quite good. It tied up the loose ends and left me with a sense of satisfaction.

Overall, it was an alright read. It had its highs and lows, but in the end, it was an enjoyable enough experience.

It’s a good book.

However, one of the characters is just such a weird and annoying one. I won’t mention names, but I’m talking about the person who claims to be “cursed” without actually being cursed.

On the other hand, I really loved Kevin and Spencer. But unfortunately, they both had awful and short deaths after the matches. I mean, I felt like there was so much build-up with Kevin, and then he just dropped dead like a fly and was only mentioned twice afterwards. Wasn’t he supposed to be the main love interest?

This book surely lacks a bit in detail, I can’t deny that. And especially Kevin’s death really got to me a bit, because he was alive one moment and then gone the next.

But in the end, I still enjoyed reading it. Even though it could have been better, it still had its own charm and managed to keep my interest throughout.

It is truly very exciting! I have always had a great penchant for books of this kind, where there is action and suspense on almost every single page. James Patterson, without a doubt, is a master in the art of adding those unexpected twists and turns to his stories. And in this regard, "The Midnight Club" does not disappoint one bit.

The way Patterson crafts his narratives keeps the readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly turning the pages to discover what lies ahead. The action-packed scenes in "The Midnight Club" are so vividly described that one can almost picture them unfolding right before their eyes. The element of suspense is skillfully built up, making it impossible to put the book down.

Each character in the story is well-developed and has their own unique personality and backstory. This adds an extra layer of depth to the plot and makes the readers become emotionally invested in their fates. Overall, "The Midnight Club" is a thrilling read that is sure to satisfy any fan of action and suspense novels.

One of James Paterson’s Best, By Far

Unlike the “contrived” story of The President’s Missing, this particular work by James Paterson was a true masterpiece of realistic suspense. From the very first page to the last, it had me on the edge of my seat. The theme of the book was incredibly realistic, delving into aspects of life that we can all relate to. The characters were so believable that I felt as if I knew them personally. Their actions and decisions were in line with what real people might do in similar situations. And the story! It was filled with excitement at every turn. There were no dull moments, no lulls in the action. It was a non-stop thrill ride that kept me guessing until the very end. This is truly one of James Paterson’s best works to date, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good suspense novel.

The Midnight Club was just an okay read. It didn't seem to flow for me like I found with other Patterson books. Maybe there was just too much that wasn't believable for me within the story that made it stop-start and hard to get into.

The idea of a Midnight Club with views of world domination might work in a Marvel/DC movie where everything is beyond belief or fantasy. But in a fictional novel set in a real world with real characters it comes across as absurd. Many things occurred throughout the book which seemed wrong or not believable.

Some examples are as follows. The death of Kupchek. He's ambushed and shot and recognises the shooter as another cop. He survives for half an hour and uses that time to catch a taxi to his partner's house to tell him how much he loves him. At no stage does he attempt to seek medical attention, like phone for an ambulance rather than a taxi. Or even phone his partner to tell him who the shooter was.

Parker's reaction after the massacre at Trump's seemed odd and out of character. He was a policeman and throughout the book had been calmly murdering crime lords in cold blood. He's sent to Atlantic City to carry out a final murder but before his target is named, some other shooters get in first. Good news that someone did his job for him? Apparently not, his reaction was to go into a state of shock, pain in his gut, loss of control, numbness etc. Weird.

At the end of the book Parker is back on the streets working as a police detective. Which would mean there are no consequences for policemen who carry out vigilante killing of bad guys? When another experienced killer is sent to take Parker out, he waits in the shadows near Parker's parked car at 4am. Not only is he moving around instead of standing still, he is smoking a cigarette which Parker can see and smell.

I found the actions of St-Germain to be inconsistent. He is primarily painted as a cruel and sadistic psychopath. All through the book he is killing people in cold blood if they got in his way. Stef (a policeman in a wheelchair), is provoking him and embarrassing him in public. Yet at no point does he look to take him out. He phones him with threats etc, but that's all. And Stef himself wasn't terribly believable either. I like the concept of a person living with disability as a character in a story, but as a frontline homicide detective?? It just isn't believable and the obvious issues he would have in getting in and out of buildings etc were brushed over.

His first shooting which resulted in his leg paralysis was ridiculous. He was hot twice with a shotgun, and as he's lying on the ground the shooter loads up and shoots him again from point blank range standing over him...with a shotgun. There would be no surviving this. Bones would have been smashed and vital organs destroyed. Instead he survives with spinal damage only. A paraplegic in a wheelchair. And then to top it off at the end of the book he is shot again, twice, and then hit by a car and spends months in a hospital. And guess what, when he gets out he is better than he was after the first shooting. He no longer needs a wheelchair and can walk now with a cane! I know it's fiction but this is more fantasy to me.

Don't get me wrong, the story is readable and has entertainment value for a reader. Just too many eye rolls and elements which were not thought through very well by the author before going to publishing.

A good book can truly transport you to another world. I have always been a fan of James Patterson, especially in the early years. I have devoured many of his captivating novels. It was when I was at the casino at Trump Towers that I had a sudden realization. I had likely read this particular book sometime in the 90s. As I was reading, bits and pieces started coming back to me, like a strange sense of déjà vu.

The story had its fair share of good moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. However, there were also some moments that left me scratching my head in confusion. One such instance was when his partner was shot. Instead of going to the hospital, he took a cab back to his partner's apartment. And to make matters worse, he did not tell his partner who had shot him before he passed away. This strange sequence of events really left me baffled and wondering what the author was thinking.

Overall, despite those few head-scratching moments, I still found the book to be an enjoyable read. It had its charm and kept me engaged from start to finish.

This book was truly captivating and extremely hard to put down.

Despite the fact that the chapters were told from the perspectives of different people, the story remained cohesive and in line throughout the entire book.

The diverse viewpoints added depth and richness to the narrative, allowing the reader to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the events and the characters involved.

Each chapter seemed to seamlessly flow into the next, creating a seamless and engaging reading experience.

It was as if the author had carefully crafted a web of interconnected stories that all came together to form a single, unified whole.

Overall, this book was a great read and one that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an exciting and thought-provoking story.

Mr. Patterson tells an engaging story about the mafia.

Although it surpasses the previous initial books, it still falls short of being truly excellent. Nevertheless, I definitely preferred it to the first two installments.

People who don't read often inquire about my motivation for reading. In simple terms, I have an unwavering love for it. To that end, I have adopted the motto "Keep on Reading."

I have a penchant for reading almost everything, with the exception of self-help books, although I do pick them up偶尔. I explore nearly all genres, but young adult, fantasy, and biographies are my favorites.

My all-time favorite series is, without a doubt, Harry Potter. However, there are numerous other books that I cherish deeply.

I have bookcases brimming with books, all patiently awaiting my perusal. Therefore, I can't linger and spend more time on this review.

Remember, I adored reading this, and I have an insatiable appetite for more. You too should read what you love and then simply Keep on Reading.

Piffff...

Cardboard characters, that's what we have here. They lack depth and authenticity, like mere cutouts moving through the story.

The plot is as flat as a pancake. There's no real excitement or tension to keep us engaged. It's a struggle to get through each scene, hoping that something interesting will happen but constantly being met with disappointment.

Finishing this piece feels like a test of hope over nausea. We keep telling ourselves that maybe it will get better, but it never does. The whole experience is just a letdown, leaving us with a bad taste in our mouths and a sense of wasted time.

It's a pity that such a lackluster work exists, failing to capture our attention and imagination. We can only hope that future efforts will be more successful in creating something truly engaging and memorable.

It would be a five-star rating, but there are three aspects that I think are a bit overdone or lack attention to detail.

First of all, a group of criminals from the upper echelons all over the world would never have a face-to-face meeting all together. It seems highly unlikely and goes against the common sense of how such secretive and dangerous individuals would operate.

Secondly, in a hotel where such important and dangerous criminals are gathering, it would be swarming with bodyguards. So, if there are, for example, 19 dead bodies found, there should realistically be around another 40 bodyguards lying around the place. This aspect is not properly accounted for in the story.

Last but not least, after Parker got attacked and he realized that the Grave Dancer is coming after them, he would have immediately called Stefanovitch to warn him. However, this crucial step is not taken in the story, which seems like a oversight.

Despite these flaws, it is still a good story overall, with an engaging plot and interesting characters that keep the reader hooked until the end.

This was a book that was published in 1989.

It vividly described meetings that took place in the World Trade Center.

The mere mention of it instantly evoked memories of the tragic destruction that is etched in everyone's minds.

The story, as always with Patterson, was pure magic.

It didn't have an abundance of details, but focused on Stef, a rather quirky cop.

Stef is determined to catch the evil Grave Dancer.

The plot is filled with fast-paced, non-stop action.

There are kidnappings, injuries, and even a hint of a romantic affair budding between Stef and Sarah.

The adventure was truly captivating and kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

I absolutely loved every moment of it!

It was a thrilling read that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with a touch of romance and plenty of excitement.
