My first encounter with James Patterson's work left me with a rather mixed impression.

I won't be quick to give up, but I can't help but wonder if the somewhat lackluster feel I got is a side-effect of this being part of a long series.

The story seemed to be going through the motions, checking off a list of expected elements rather than truly engaging me.

In this particular book, we're introduced to some truly bizarre characters who claim to be vampires, preying on their victims and draining them of blood. The police soon discover links between several crimes, and before long, we're plunged into a world of crazy mass-killing sprees. We're submerged in a murky underworld filled with ex-commune members, s&m fans, graphic violence, and increasingly odd ways to dispose of people.

Alongside all this chaos, we also have Alex dealing with his own issues, namely his problem with someone called The Mastermind.

For long stretches of the book, we focus on the more mundane aspects of Alex's life, like his fretting over how he's missing out on his children's lives. I was initially surprised by a certain revelation, but then I got frustrated because it just seemed implausible that someone could maintain such a high level of deception without anyone getting even remotely suspicious.

It has been suggested that I should give Along Came a Spider a try, perhaps seeing this character in his 'fresh-faced' phase might make for a more appealing read.

This was truly one of my all-time favorite Alex Cross books. The vampire crime plot was simply captivating! As a die-hard fan of the fantasy and sci-fi book genres, this particular storyline really got my heart racing. It was a refreshing and exciting addition to the Alex Cross series.

Regarding the Mastermind crime plot, I was extremely relieved that it didn't drag on into subsequent books with Alex remaining clueless about the identity of the Mastermind. I felt that if that had happened, it would have become rather tiresome and overdone. In my opinion, the level of suspense surrounding his discovery was just perfect. It added an extra layer of excitement and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book.

Looking ahead, it will be truly fascinating to see where Alex Cross goes in terms of his career. Will he continue to solve complex crimes and take on new challenges? Only time will tell.

My quick and simple overall assessment is that this was an incredibly entertaining installment that I simply couldn't put down. I found myself staying up well past midnight just to finish it, completely engrossed in the story from start to finish.

I found this book to be slightly underwhelming after the conclusion of the sixth instalment. Instead of centering on 'The Mastermind', Alex Cross embarks on a new case that involves vampires.

It wasn't a terrible plot line, and I did have some enjoyment from it. However, it overshadowed what I had anticipated to be the main plot. Additionally, I felt that this particular installment ended too simply, and I was a bit let down.

Nonetheless, I will be continuing with the series. I just hope that the books don't start to decline in quality like they did with 'The Women's Murder Club'. I firmly believe that James Patterson is an outstanding writer who crafts thrilling storylines. But when ghost writers become involved, the quality often suffers.

Alex Cross is such an endearing character, and that's why I can understand why this is such a long-running series. I have a significant amount of catching up to do. If you're seeking a series where each book offers something fresh while still following the same characters and developing their relationships, this is one that I would recommend looking into. It may not be revolutionary, but it's quick-paced and enjoyable!

I initially believed that the series was regaining its momentum. After all, the previous book wasn't too糟糕.

However, as I delved into this one, I couldn't help but think "WTF". I can handle vampires; in fact, I have a great affinity for vampire stories. The Black Dagger Brotherhood, for instance, is among my favorite series. But two arrogant little morons going on a killing spree, stringing people up, biting them, and draining their blood? In an Alex Cross book? Let's not even mention the tiger... the f**king TIGER. And then there's Alex's trip to the hospital due to an infected vampire bite (last book it was his daughter in the hospital - I wonder who it'll be in the next one).

This book seemed like two distinct books mashed together. Once the entire vampire storyline was wrapped up, the action immediately shifted back to the mastermind. It was almost as if they hadn't spent the majority of the book engaged in vampire hunting.

Nevertheless, it was the final part of the book that prevented it from receiving a one-star rating from me. We actually gained a bit more insight into the mastermind, and Alex finally figured out who it was. There were far too many references back to the Gentleman Caller and Casanova, though.

I hate to admit this, but if the next book doesn't improve significantly, I think it could be my last Alex Cross book - in fact, it could be my last James Patterson book.

The audio was really well performed.

It had a certain charm that kept me engaged throughout.

Even though the identity of the "unknown villain" became quite obvious rather quickly, it didn't really detract from my enjoyment of the overall experience.

The quality of the audio production, the voices of the actors, and the way the story was told all contributed to making it an enjoyable listen.

I found myself getting lost in the narrative and looking forward to what would happen next, despite already having a good idea of who the villain might be.

It just goes to show that sometimes, even with a predictable plot element, a well-executed audio can still be highly entertaining.

I would definitely recommend this audio to others who enjoy a good story, regardless of the predictability of the villain.

Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to listening to more like it in the future.

The Mastermind is back.

But this book was kind of boring to me. The same villain returns and another loved one is dead. Violets are Blue opens with Alex walking into the murder scene of his latest romantic and professional partner, FBI agent Betsy Cavalierre. She was brutally murdered by the Mastermind, who was introduced in Roses are Red. Of course, the Mastermind calls Alex to taunt him, which is highly predictable. It's almost as if the author is following a formula.

However, Alex doesn't just have to deal with his old nemesis in this book. Oh no, he has to face a pair of killers, Michael and William Alexander, who are teenaged vampires. Yes, you read that right. This book takes a rather strange turn with the introduction of these vampire characters. It's an unexpected addition to the story that doesn't quite seem to fit.

Now don't get me wrong, I liked the book. It just wasn't my favorite. It was kind of meh, and even though it had some twists and turns, I saw most of them coming from a mile away. The one thing I didn't anticipate was Craig, but I won't spoil it for you. I really just hope that the next book in the series will be a lot better, with more engaging characters and a more original plot.

Alex Cross #7 - Oh, what a disappointment!

I'm not going to trash this series or James Patterson. I really do love the Alex Cross series. All those psycho, crazy, serial, insane, cut up the bodies and send them to you type books have always been my cup of tea. However, this one just wasn't one of his best, in my opinion.

But I'm not giving up on this series. I'm a bit late to the party with these books as I started from book number 1 and I'll definitely keep on going. I understand that some people may really like this story, but it just wasn't for me.

Well, on to book number 8 in the sometime future! I'm curious to see what Patterson has in store for us next in the adventures of Alex Cross. Maybe the next one will be a real page-turner and bring back the excitement and thrill that I've come to expect from this series.

I'm truly impressed that Elizabeth Rose was only fourteen when she penned this book. At that age, I could hardly complete a simple story, let alone a relatively long novel with a fully developed story arc. I had admired the author's writing on her blog, which is why I was eager to give her book a try.

She is undoubtedly a budding historical fiction writer. The early 1900s time period is vividly brought to life, with an authenticity that shows careful research, yet without any overwhelming information dumps. As other reviewers have noted, younger readers would likely be most drawn to the story's style. The protagonist, Violet, is also portrayed in a convincingly real way. Since she is around the same age as the author was, her narration in the first person adds an extra layer of authenticity to the story.

However, it received three stars from me because there were flaws that could have been rectified with better editing and perhaps more maturity. Additionally, I didn't always find myself liking Violet. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly applaud Elizabeth Rose for writing such a sincere and heartfelt novel. It's a remarkable achievement for a fourteen-year-old.

Oh, yes! A book that takes place during my favorite time period and written by a fellow homeschool student? It's an absolute no-brainer for me. I've been eagerly desiring to read this book for a long time now, ever since I first heard of it.

The story in Violets Are Blue is set during 1911 - 1912. Violet Bradshaw's family, who lives in Great Britain, is about to embark on a journey to America. She is leaving behind her dearest best friend, but they make a promise to write letters to each other, and indeed, they do. The reader is even treated to seeing the correspondence chain between the two girls.

The setting is just before WWI commences, and the ocean-traveling scene is in its most luxurious state. Ship liners are vying for the biggest, the best, the fastest, and the most opulent. I adored how both the Olympic and Titanic were incorporated into the story, and how the author precisely detailed the events and aftermath of the shipwreck of the century.

Author Elizabeth Rose penned this book at such a tender age, around 14. At times, her age is evident in her writing ability, but overall, the book has a well-structured plot. One aspect she did splendidly is researching the time period and including numerous authentic elements and conversation material that are in line with the early 1900s.

NOTE to the discerning reader & parents: Near the end of the book, young Violet contemplates suicide. I found her actions to be extreme, yet it provides us with more in-depth understanding of Violet's character.

The only thing I wish could have been done with Violets Are Blue is that it would have undergone a thorough edit. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the book.

Overall, I believe that kids aged 9 - 14 would be most entertained by the story, but anyone can take pleasure in it. You'll be learning rich history, whether you're aware of it or not!

Kyle, that sick and twisted individual, finally meets his downfall.

The fucked-up case that had been plaguing everyone is resolved right within the pages of this book.

It has a nice, cute little ending that neatly wraps everything up into a nice bow, as if tying a perfect knot.

It's quite satisfying to see how it all comes together in the end.

And now, it's time to move onto the next adventure, the next story that awaits to be discovered.

Who knows what excitement and mystery it will bring?

But one thing is for sure, the journey continues.
