I obtained this book as it was mentioned by Raymond Francis in his work, (never be fat again).

I had a strong desire to delve deeper into the subject of fasting. He promotes juice fasting for a period of one to three days as a means of detoxification.

I am particularly fond of his approach that encompasses the mind, body, and spirit, recognizing that these three aspects are intertwined and inseparable.

The world we live in is indeed a toxic environment. We are obligated to learn the techniques of avoiding and eliminating toxins from our bodies.

Interestingly, spiritual fasting is addressed towards the back of the book, yet for some reason, this seems to offend certain individuals. I fail to understand how or why this is the case.

If one does not hold a favorable view towards this perspective, then it is a simple matter of choosing not to read that particular chapter.

Undoubtedly, this book will serve as one of the valuable tools that will assist me in attaining and maintaining robust health.

For no other reason, this book should be read.

The information presented in the book was quite good. However, it was extremely repetitive. Perhaps it was written in such a way that each chapter could be read independently.

I have been on a quest for information regarding fasting, both for its nutritional and spiritual benefits. Fortunately, this book covered both of these topics. Since it was written 10 years ago, some of the scientific content was a bit outdated. Nevertheless, overall, it seemed to cover the basics quite well. The author recommends short (1-3 day) juice fasts several times a year. I have come across and read other publications that suggest the same thing, including the movie "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead," which focuses on extended juice fasting.

On the spiritual side, Dr Colbert delved into some of the major Biblical leaders and the types of fasting they employed (full, partial, etc.) and the outcomes of their choices.

In this book, as well as the one I read previously ("Fasting" by Jentezen Franklin), both authors made a similar observation. Often in Scripture, we encounter the phrases "prayer and fasting," or "giving, prayer, and fasting." We frequently talk about praying and giving (and tithing), but rarely do I hear a sermon dedicated solely to fasting. I firmly believe that it is an important aspect of worship.

Overall, I would recommend this book, especially to those seeking nutritional information about how our diets consisting of processed and artificial foods impact our bodies. I would also recommend the spiritual section to individuals desiring to learn more about biblical fasting and what it can entail.

Here's another book which my mother never really sat and read,

though it was talked about and subsequently "hyped" from a friend of hers from so many years ago.

The advice in this book is straightforward common sense.

My mother, while extolling the advice of this book, mostly did so to herself.

Yet, almost NEVER did she share this advice with others.

It's quite strange how she would praise the book's advice privately but not pass it on.

Perhaps she thought it was too simple or that others wouldn't listen.

But the fact remains that the common sense advice in the book could potentially have been beneficial to many if only she had shared it.

Maybe one day, she will realize the value of sharing this advice and start to spread the wisdom that she has kept to herself for so long.

Until then, the book's advice will continue to be known only to her.
