I truly relished this book.

It’s truly interesting that, as a librarian, a number of my favorite books have been recommended by patrons. I have been making use of a wide range of health and fitness materials. So, when a caller highly recommended that I look into former Governor Huckabee’s book, I was quite willing to give it a shot.

Huckabee starts by briefly recounting his health background and the health scare that led him to that well-known crossroads. It was a choice between change or death. Huckabee opted for change and presents 12 steps to assist readers in doing the same. Although there is nothing entirely novel in his tips, his approach is distinct in that he describes the things we should cease doing rather than what we should commence doing. He then elaborates, sharing how he has put each tip into practice. For instance, in Chapter 10 – Stop Fueling with Contaminated Foods, he describes the cooler filled with healthy food that he never goes anywhere without. He has a staff who could handle this for him, but he takes on the responsibility, stating “overeating is my problem, and my health is my responsibility. Packing my cooler is a reminder of my responsibility to make good choices today.”

Despite being eight years old, the book didn't seem outdated at all. It's a quick read, neatly divided for intermittent reading, and a great addition to the extensive collection of available health information.
