I read this book earlier this year, before COVID-19 confined us to our homes. Now, stuck inside, I'm feeling bored and too lazy to pick up any book. So, what do I do? Obviously, I come here to criticize a book I didn't like. (*Evil smirk*) Let's start. Reading a children's book as an adult is quite an experience, isn't it? Let's discuss it in terms of pros and cons. Pros: 1. It allows the imagination to run wild, without any restrictions on thoughts. As a child, I would have loved to read such an unconventional book. 2. Alice is a brave girl who goes on adventures on her own. Thank goodness! I'm tired of girls waiting for a prince to rescue them from every little thing. 3. That's about it for the pros. Now, let's move on to the cons. Cons: 1. The imagination runs wild, really wild! (I know it seems contradictory, but you know what I mean.) Anything can happen in the story, and it does. 2. I believe children's books should teach them some lessons. Let's see what Alice in Wonderland teaches: (i) Alice wanders around and follows anyone without thinking even once. No, kids, that's not how you do it. You could get killed, kidnapped, or at least lost. (ii) She eats and drinks anything without even trying to find out if it's edible or not. Girl, you might die, get kidnapped, or at least get sick. (iii) She keeps judging people and I don't see her showing any respect. At one point, she calls her classmate ugly (or something similar). Nope, we don't teach our kids that. (iv) People are mocked for their emotions and physical features. (No thank you. I'll read Panchatantra to my kids instead.) Bye for now. I'll come back if I feel the need to edit anything. And please don't hate me if you love this book. We're all entitled to our own opinions.
