This is my first experience with this fantasy series, and unfortunately, it seems likely to be my last.

The plot itself isn't terrible; it has its moments of interest and potential. However, the pacing of the action is extremely slow, which makes the story drag on and on.

Moreover, there are numerous passages that are repetitious, as if the author is trying to fill space rather than advance the narrative.

Despite getting three-fourths of the way through the book, I simply couldn't be bothered to finish it. The lack of excitement and the tedious nature of the writing had worn me down.

In the end, I was left feeling disappointed. I had hoped for a thrilling and engaging fantasy adventure, but instead, I got a slow and repetitive slog.

I will likely think twice before picking up another book from this author or series in the future.

Returning from a weekend outing, Charlie comes across a sentient cat trapped in a steel cage. Without hesitation, she decides to release him.

During the same trip, the riders discover a biker dead at the bottom of a ravine.

Kit recognizes the cat in the cage and reveals that he is Stone Eye, the leader of her clowder. They know they must return to Hellhag Hill.

Meanwhile, Joe is furious as one of Cldye's old girlfriends has moved in next door. He keeps a close watch on her and witnesses her running away after a robbery.

The story takes an unexpected turn, with an ending that is both different and interesting. It provides a relaxing read after a stressful day, transporting the reader into a world of mystery and adventure.

Overall, this is a captivating tale that combines elements of the supernatural, crime, and friendship. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Lengthy soap-boxing by the author constantly jerks the reader out of the story.

This is a significant issue that can greatly disrupt the reading experience. When an author engages in long-winded rants or opinions that are not directly related to the narrative, it takes the reader's focus away from the fictional world being created. Instead of being fully immersed in the story, the reader is suddenly pulled out and forced to listen to the author's personal views.

This can be frustrating for the reader, as they may have picked up the book to escape into a different world and be entertained. The constant interruption of the author's soap-boxing can make it difficult for the reader to maintain their interest and connection with the story. It can also make the author seem self-indulgent or more concerned with expressing their own opinions than telling a good story.

Authors should be aware of this issue and strive to keep their personal opinions and rants to a minimum. They should focus on creating a engaging and immersive story that allows the reader to become fully invested in the characters and plot. By doing so, they can ensure that the reader has a positive reading experience and is more likely to recommend the book to others.
