Only read for an assignment.

It really reminded me of listening to my dad tell a story. His sister married a guy she had been interested in. However, the truth was that his sister was already pregnant with another guy's baby and didn't mention it to her husband before they got married.

Soon after, when she gave birth to a baby way less than 9 months later, her husband divorced her. She then came back home and claimed that she had adopted the kid. When her sister confronted her about it, she started causing trouble between her sister and her uncles.

Their mom also refused to admit that her daughter would have gotten pregnant out of wedlock and tried to pass it off as someone else's. Then, the accusing sister made a "colored" girl pack her belongings and go to the post office where she worked, so that she could live there.

This whole situation was quite a mess and showed the complexity of family relationships and the consequences of keeping secrets and telling lies.

I made an attempt to listen to this particular audiobook.

Even though Welty is undeniably a brilliant and talented writer, unfortunately, her voice and tone while reading had a rather soporific effect on me. As a result, I had to give up and dnf (did not finish).

However, I still hold the hope of delving into more of her work in the near future. I firmly believe that fans and students who have a deep appreciation for her writing style will find great value and enjoyment in this audiobook.

Despite my personal experience with the audiobook, I recognize the significance and quality of Welty's literary contributions. I look forward to exploring her works in other formats and uncovering the depth and beauty that lies within her writing.

Fun.

I had previously encountered difficulties while attempting to read "Why I Live at the P.O." However, listening to Eudora read it made all the difference. It became not only possible but also truly enjoyable. Her fast speech, accompanied by the proper southern accents, added a unique charm to the story.

The sister in the story is such a twit, just like all the other characters.

This collection serves as a short introduction to Welty's short stories. Among them, I didn't find "Petrified Man" as engaging as "Why I Live..." and "Powerhouse". Each story has its own distinct flavor, but these two seemed to resonate with me more.

Overall, it was an interesting experience exploring Welty's works through this collection. I look forward to delving deeper into her literary world in the future.

I just don't appreciate what others call classic, I guess.

Maybe it's because I have my own unique perspective and taste. What some people consider classic might not resonate with me on a personal level.

I often find myself drawn to more contemporary or niche works that speak to my own experiences and emotions.

However, I also understand that classic works have withstood the test of time for a reason. They have influenced generations of artists and thinkers and have become an important part of our cultural heritage.

Despite my lack of appreciation for some classic works, I still respect their significance and value.

I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinions and preferences when it comes to art and literature.

And who knows, maybe one day I'll discover a classic work that will completely change my perspective.

Until then, I'll continue to explore and appreciate the diverse range of works that are out there.

With the right adaptation and direction, these short one-acts could become a memorable and entertaining addition to any theatrical production.

Whether it's a comedic, dramatic, or thought-provoking piece, the possibilities are endless.

It would be exciting to see how these stories would be interpreted and presented in a live performance setting.

Overall, the potential of these stories to be developed into short one-acts is truly promising.

I'm still in the process of trying to determine what my thoughts are regarding these stories.

This particular collection happens to be my very first encounter with Welty's works.

And I must say, I'm most definitely intrigued and have a strong interest in delving deeper and reading more of her literary creations.

There's something about her writing that has captured my attention and left me eager to explore further.

Whether it's the unique characters she presents, the vivid settings she描绘s, or the engaging plots she weaves, I can't quite put my finger on it.

But one thing is for sure, I'm looking forward to seeing what else Welty has in store for me as I continue my literary journey with her.

For this audiobook, Eudora Welty reads three of her classic stories: Why I Live at the P.O., Powerhouse, and The Petrified Man.

It was truly a delight to hear Ms. Welty’s voice. The reading not only highlights her wonderful ear for language and dialogue but also showcases her mischievous sense of humor.

The first story was read at a faster pace than the others. However, I firmly believe that this speed is a perfect fit for the personality of the story’s narrator.

The audiobook is based on an old LP, which adds a certain charm and nostalgia to the listening experience. It allows listeners to step back in time and enjoy the works of Eudora Welty in a unique and engaging way.

Overall, this audiobook is a must-listen for fans of Eudora Welty and those who appreciate great literature.

After listening to this audio version read by the author, I am now adding her other works to my TBR list.

Her stories are truly remarkable. They are rich in details that vividly bring out the feel of the time period she writes about. It's as if you are transported back in time and can experience it all for yourself.

Moreover, she has a unique ability to capture the essence of southern culture. The language, the traditions, the values - all are beautifully intertwined in her narratives.

Each story seems to be a love letter to the south, filled with warmth, charm, and a touch of nostalgia. I can't wait to explore more of her works and immerse myself in the wonderful world she has created.

I highly recommend her books to anyone who has an interest in history, culture, or simply enjoys a good story. You won't be disappointed.
