At times, Welty's reading pace can be rather overwhelming.

She has a tendency to read way too fast, which makes it difficult for the listener to fully absorb and understand the content.

Even when the speed is set at 0.75x, she still sometimes barrels through the reading with great haste.

This rapid reading style may cause important details to be missed or glossed over.

It would be beneficial for Welty to slow down a bit and give the text the attention it deserves.

By doing so, the listener would have a better chance of grasping the full meaning and enjoying the reading experience.

Perhaps Welty could practice reading at a more moderate pace and focus on enunciating each word clearly.

This would not only enhance the listener's comprehension but also make the reading more engaging and enjoyable for everyone involved.

I thought that the story "Why I Live at the PO" was truly hilarious and I would definitely rate it 4 - 5 stars. It had me laughing out loud at times.

However, when it came to "Powerhouse" or "Petrified Man", I had a really hard time getting engaged. My mind just kept wandering off. I found it difficult to stay focused on the stories.

As other reviewers have also mentioned, she reads the short stories at a very fast pace. This might be one of the reasons why I had trouble fully immersing myself in "Powerhouse" and "Petrified Man".

Overall, while "Why I Live at the PO" was a great read, the other two stories didn't quite capture my attention in the same way. I'm still glad I gave them a try, but I'll probably be more cautious when choosing which of her works to read in the future.

It was truly a delight to listen to Miss Eudora read her work. Especially when she read the first story, "Why I Live at the P.O."

She read it extremely fast, but I understood that this speed was essential for this particular story. However, she did not read the other three stories at such a rapid-fire pace.

What was disappointing was that the reading only offered four stories. I was hoping for more as her writing is so engaging and full of life.

Each story seemed to have its own unique charm and I was eager to hear more. Despite the limited number of stories, the experience of listening to Miss Eudora read was still very enjoyable and left me wanting to explore more of her work.

I look forward to future opportunities to hear her read and discover the wonderful worlds she creates through her writing.

The story is not only lively but also peculiar, with its unexpected twists and turns that keep the audience engaged from start to finish. Do yourself a favor and knock the speed on ‘why I live at the PO’ by 10 - 15% to get Welty's true voice.

This adjustment is crucial as it allows us to fully appreciate the nuances and subtleties in her narrative. By slowing down, we can catch the unique cadence and rhythm of her words, which add depth and authenticity to the story.

Other stories may be fine at regular speed, but ‘why I live at the PO’ demands a more deliberate listening.

Hearing her tell the stories was delightful. It was like being transported into a world of her creation, where every word held significance and every character came to life.

Welty's ability to engage the listener through her storytelling is truly remarkable, and by taking the time to listen at the appropriate speed, we can enhance our enjoyment and understanding of her work.

I really hated the fact that the first story was presented at such a rapid pace. After looking at other reviews, I have this guess that the producers might have sped up her original reading. In my opinion, among all the 3 stories, this one was actually the most amusing. I truly did enjoy listening to Ms. Welty read her stories aloud. It had this wonderful effect of making me imagine the women in my family. They were sitting around the table, engaged in lively discussions about life.

It was as if I could picture the expressions on their faces, the animated gestures they might make, and the warmth that filled the room as they shared their thoughts and experiences. Ms. Welty's reading brought a sense of authenticity and familiarity to the stories, making them come alive in my mind.

Despite the disappointment with the speed of the first story, the overall experience of listening to her read was still quite enjoyable and engaging. It made me appreciate the power of a good storyteller and the ability to transport listeners to another world through words.

I listened to the author read these on CD.

She talks really fast!! It was quite a challenge to keep up with her speed.

However, despite the fast pace, I still managed to enjoy the experience.

Among all the pieces, I liked "Why I live at the PO" best.

This particular story had a unique charm that吸引了 my attention.

The author's vivid description and interesting plot made it a pleasure to listen to.

I could easily imagine the scenes and the characters in my mind.

Even though the reading was fast, it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story.

In fact, it added a sense of excitement and urgency to the whole experience.

I would definitely recommend this CD to others who enjoy listening to short stories.

It's a great way to pass the time and discover new literary works.

I didn't have a particular penchant for the short stories themselves or the style of writing. However, what truly captivated me was the author's voice while reading them.

The stories, although not to my personal taste in terms of content and composition, took on a whole new life when the author read them aloud. There was something in the tone, the cadence, and the expression in the author's voice that made the words come alive.

It was as if the author was able to breathe a unique spirit into each story, making them more engaging and interesting than they might have been on the page. The author's voice had a certain charm and authenticity that drew me in and made me want to listen, despite my initial reservations about the stories and the writing.

In conclusion, while I may not have loved the short stories or the writing in the traditional sense, I have to admit that the author's voice while reading them was a truly wonderful and unexpected pleasure.
