A woman is bravely sailing across the vast Atlantic Ocean. Suddenly, her eyes catch a figure floating in the ocean. With a sense of curiosity and compassion, she decides to approach and pick up the guy. Little does she know that this seemingly ordinary act will lead her into a web of mystery and danger. As it turns out, the man she has rescued is an Israeli assassin on a top-secret mission.

The woman is now thrust into a situation she never expected, having to deal with the consequences of her kind gesture. The assassin, on the other hand, is conflicted. On one hand, he has a mission to complete, but on the other hand, he feels a strange sense of gratitude towards the woman who saved his life.

Their encounter sets off a chain of events that will test their courage, loyalty, and determination. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their path and find a way out of this dangerous situation? Only time will tell.

I have a somewhat indifferent attitude towards this book.

On one hand, I do like the characters in it, which have certain charm and individuality.

Also, I'm aware that it's the beginning of a series, and that makes me curious about what will happen next.

So, I've decided to read the second one and see how the story develops.

I really like the author. I had just completed a newer book of his and truly enjoyed it.

Based on that experience, I'm willing to take a bet that the second installment in this series will be even better.

I'm going to give it a try and hope it can bring me more surprises and pleasures.

I believe that with the author's talent and creativity, the second book has the potential to be a great read.

I'm looking forward to delving into it and exploring the new adventures and mysteries that await.

A few months ago, I had the great fortune to win an ARC for Ward Larsen's book Assassin's Strike.

This book was truly amazing and it immediately hooked me.

After finishing it, I was so intrigued that I decided to go back and start from the very beginning with The Perfect Assassin, which is the first book in the David Slaton Series.

And let me tell you, it was an outstanding first book and an excellent introduction to the character of David Slaton.

The story kicks off with a woman on a sailboat who discovers a man clinging to life and floating in the ocean.

This man turns out to be David Slaton, an Israeli Assassin.

Unbeknownst to him, two nuclear bombs have gone missing from the boat he was on.

Now, he must embark on a dangerous mission to find the bombs and the people responsible.

What follows is a thrilling race against time and a captivating cat and mouse game as Slaton has no idea who he can trust.

The plot is full of twists and turns, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat from start to finish.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves a good thriller.

I have to admit it. I caught the espionage bug. Maybe I've always had it? Between Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan novels, Jason Bourne starring on the pages of Ludlum's books, and Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp character... (and of course, there's always been Ian Fleming's Bond).

For someone like me with this bug, finding a new author is truly satisfying. Ward Larsen is that new author. I was sent his latest novel to read and review. But I can't start in the middle of a series, so I went back and ordered his first three. The main character is David Slaton, a "highly trained Israeli assassin." "The Perfect Assassin" is the first in a thrilling international spy series.

A secret mission to move two nuclear weapons across the ocean goes awry. The ship sinks, and only one survivor, David Slaton, is found floating. Dr. Christine Palmer, on a sailing trek to honor her father and take a break from med school, unknowingly changes her life forever when she pulls Slaton on board. Deadly chaos ensues.

Palmer's act of pulling Slaton from the ocean puts her in danger. Those behind the ship's sinking know she may know where it went down. And with a slew of top agents turning up murdered, Slaton becomes the prime suspect.

Mostly on their own, Slaton and Palmer must work quickly to solve an international mystery. If they fail, the stolen nukes will detonate. Slaton suspects the same person responsible for the slaughter of his wife and daughter years ago is behind the theft.

The characters are amazing. I thought I'd have to take notes like with Tom Clancy books, but Larsen's smooth writing makes it easy to remember who's who. The dialogue is excellent, and the tension builds constantly. I really enjoyed Slaton and Palmer together. The way this book ended has me eager to read "Assassin's Game"!

Intriguing Espionage Series

The David Slaton stories penned by Ward Larsen are nothing short of heart-stoppingly good. David, an Israeli Mossad agent, is a character who combines intelligence, strength, and good looks in a captivating manner.
He is discovered floating in the sea by a woman on a cruising yacht. Miraculously, she manages to rescue him. However, neither the ship he was on nor any other survivors are in sight. The captain who saves him, an MD, patches him up, only to be rewarded with the hijacking of her boat. Suddenly, both of them find themselves being hunted. The mystery surrounding the who, what, when, and why is so intense that it may very well keep you up at night. This series is highly recommended for those who crave thrilling espionage tales filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Excellent Thriller

The author has masterfully crafted two outstanding characters in David Slaton and Christine, his accomplice. David Slaton is a complex and intriguing figure, with a mysterious past and a set of skills that make him a force to be reckoned with. Christine, on the other hand, is a strong and resourceful woman who provides the perfect complement to David. The story that unfolds around these two characters is not only reasonably credible but also filled with twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The author's writing is precise and engaging, painting a vivid picture of the action and the emotions of the characters. The length of the novel is also perfect, allowing for the characters to develop fully and the scenes to unfold in a natural and believable way. Overall, this is an excellent thriller that is well worth a read.

This is the first installment of the David Slaton series, and it is also the third book of this series that I have had the pleasure of reading. Ward Larsen truly knows the art of crafting a novel that is filled with espionage, terrorism, and intrigue.

David Slaton, a kidon or Israeli Assassin, finds himself in a perilous situation when he is rescued at sea by a female doctor from the US. She is in the midst of a solo crossing, on her way back to America. As she looks out over the vast eastern Atlantic, she spots Slaton bobbing in the water with no boat in sight.

This chance encounter marks the beginning of a complex and captivating hate/love relationship. It also sets the stage for an involved and interesting espionage adventure that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. With Larsen's masterful storytelling, readers are drawn into a world of danger, mystery, and unexpected twists and turns.

The David Slaton series is a must-read for fans of espionage thrillers, and this first book is a great introduction to the character and the exciting world he inhabits.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book, which was provided through NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, nor was I obligated to write a positive one. The opinion I express here is entirely my own.

An American female doctor, a Mossad agent, international intrigue, and the spy world - these elements are all present in this novel. As with other spy novels, we can anticipate a few twists and surprises along the way. Overall, it was quite an enjoyable read. However, I did find the formatting to be rather confusing. The point of view jumps from one person to another very rapidly, without a clear separation between the different perspectives. There are also so many players in the story, which can make it a bit overwhelming at times. Additionally, the beginning of the book was extremely slow, which made it a bit of a struggle to get into the story.

I believe I read somewhere that this is the author's debut novel. So, here's hoping that his next books will be much better than this one. With a bit more polish and refinement, he has the potential to write some truly great spy novels in the future.

How does stuff like this get published?

The Perfect Assassin is anything but. He tells just about everyone who he is and what he does. He falls in love and transgresses all personal boundaries he's trained not to cross. He's unable to control his sex drive, because, well, sex sells and so does having a love interest who has Munchhausen and who you've kidnapped and threatened to kill multiple times.

This book is beyond unbelievable in these and so many other ways. First of all, really, there's a unit of people within Mossad who have been working for over 20 years to sabotage it? AAAAA. NOT POSSIBLE. Also, everything Mossad agents do is so SLOPPY in this book, and completely unbelievable, seeing as it's probably the most well-trained and discreet and intelligent "intelligence agency" in the world. But in this book, agents drop dead left and right, leaving a trail of evidence and bodies behind as they go.

Finally, The Perfect Assassin is written as if by a barely-literate 4-th grader. It's truly degenerate in its use of language, in its characterizations, etc. The story has a lot of potential, but the execution is just beyond awful.

If you want a solid Mossad spy thriller, I recommend the Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon series instead. They're still pulpy and not brilliantly written, but plot-wise, they are coherent, and Allon as a Mossad agent makes much more sense.

Great read!

I truly relished the remarkable character development and the lightning-paced story that scarcely allowed for a moment of respite. The intricate details were utterly fascinating, captivating my attention from start to finish. I was completely blindsided by the ending, which added an extra layer of excitement and surprise. This book is an absolute must-read for anyone who has a penchant for fast-paced spy stories intertwined with international intrigue. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, constantly guessing and eager to turn the next page. The author has masterfully crafted a thrilling narrative that will leave readers breathless and longing for more.
