While some of Jo's techniques, such as the Naughty Step, are detailed quite helpfully in this book, I must admit that I felt the book was a bit of a disappointment overall.

Perhaps it's because I've watched an excessive number of episodes of Supernanny, but it seemed to me that she wasn't really presenting any new information.

Jo has some great techniques, and I do appreciate her approach to parenting and discipline. However, unfortunately, I don't believe this book contributed significantly to my own collection of parenting strategies.

It's possible that for those who are not as familiar with her work or who are new to the concept of positive parenting, this book might offer some valuable insights. But for me, it felt a bit like a rehash of what I already knew.

Overall, while the book does have its merits in terms of clearly explaining some of Jo's techniques, I don't think it's a must-read for experienced parents or those well-versed in the field of parenting and discipline.

I have never watched any of the Supernanny TV show. However, out of curiosity, I picked up this book at a secondhand book stall. To my surprise, I found that I really like it.

The book is short and simple, getting straight to the point. The advice it offers is practical and reasonable. There are many things that, in theory, I already know but often forget to do. For example, if you want your child to actually listen to you, don't just shout at them half-heartedly from across the room. Instead, take them aside, get down to their level so that you're not towering over them, make eye contact, and use the Voice of Authority (not angry but firm).

Certainly, when it comes to parenting, there is a wide range of schools of thought. Therefore, this book might not be to everyone's taste. And I don't necessarily agree with every single thing in it. Nevertheless, in general, I think it aligns quite well with my views on parenting.

Overall, I'm glad I picked up this book at the secondhand book stall. It has provided me with some useful reminders and practical tips on how to be a better parent.

This book was precisely what I had hoped it would be.

It was brief and to the point, yet it was filled with numerous useful tips.

Although nothing in it was revolutionary, the author did offer some suggestions that I had never considered before.

Surprisingly, these suggestions proved to be extremely beneficial in handling Tru's tantrums and naughty behavior.

After implementing a few of her proposed techniques this week, I have already noticed a significant improvement.

The book provided practical and easy-to-follow advice that I could immediately put into practice.

It gave me new perspectives and strategies to deal with the challenges of parenting Tru.

I would highly recommend this book to any parent who is struggling with similar issues.

It may not offer earth-shattering revelations, but it does provide valuable insights and practical solutions that can make a real difference in your daily life.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this book and will continue to refer to it whenever I need some guidance on parenting.

I didn't actually manage to finish this book. The reason is that I borrowed it from a friend in Korea and unfortunately, I had to return it before I left the country.

However, what I did read of it, I really liked. The author comes across as very matter-of-fact in her writing. She presents the information and stories in a straightforward manner. But at the same time, there is a great deal of compassion in her words.

It's just like how she is on her show, which I absolutely love watching. When I watch her show, it makes me feel like I'm the world's best parent when compared to the people she helps. Her ability to handle difficult situations and offer practical advice with kindness is truly remarkable.

I hope that one day I'll be able to get my hands on this book again and finish reading it in its entirety.

I've been reading this book for almost 3 years now.

It was a wonderful gift that I received as soon as Sophia was born.

For me, it functions more as a reference book.

What I truly appreciate about this book is its remarkable directness!

Most of the ideas and suggestions presented within its pages are essentially common sense.

However, it's quite astonishing how easily we seem to forget the obvious sometimes.

This is precisely why, for me, this book holds such great value as a reference.

It serves as a constant reminder of those fundamental principles and practical tips that we often overlook in the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Whenever I find myself in need of a quick refresher or a bit of guidance, I can always turn to this book with confidence.

It has become an indispensable part of my personal library and a trusted companion on my journey of growth and learning.

I find myself in a bit of a dilemma as I can't decide which of her two books I like better.

Both of them cover the same concepts, and in that regard, they are both quite good.

I concur with another friendly reviewer, Chelsea, who pointed out that this particular book might be more geared towards the younger age group.

If you're in search of a great book that can offer you some valuable pointers on establishing routines, providing encouragement, setting boundaries, and implementing discipline for your child, I would highly recommend either of Jo Frost's books.

I truly support her methods and I really appreciate the fact that she suggests that most children are not ready for time-outs or the use of naughty steps until they reach the age between 2 and 2 1/2 years old.

It's refreshing to have such a practical and age-appropriate approach presented in her works.

Whether you're a new parent or have some experience under your belt, these books can offer useful insights and strategies to help you raise well-behaved and happy children.

So, if you're looking for some guidance in this area, give Jo Frost's books a try.

You might just find the answers and inspiration you've been seeking.

I watch her show on a fairly regular basis. So, when I happened to come across the book at a garage sale, I immediately picked it up.

Her common-sense approach to dealing with the everyday problems and issues that occur with kids appears to be right on the mark. The importance of firmness and consistency is strongly emphasized.

This book contains some good ideas and suggestions, and it is neatly laid out. However, its helpfulness is only slightly higher than that of a collection of articles (complete with plenty of pictures, blurbs, and bullet points) from any mainstream parenting magazine.

I desire more substance in a book of this genre (or almost any genre, for that matter). I want to read about the emotional and cognitive development of children and understand the reasons why these techniques are recommended. I would like to have more theory, more references, more research, and more examples.

This would enable me to gain a deeper understanding and be better equipped to handle the various challenges that come with parenting.

Children who go undisciplined are often in a state of great turmoil. They are frequently frightened, lacking a sense of security, filled with anger, confused about the world around them, and deeply unhappy.

This description aligns perfectly with my memories of childhood. My parents belonged to a generation that was aware that hitting children was incorrect, yet they had no clear idea of what alternative actions to take. As a result, they chose to do nothing. On rare occasions, they would hurl insults at me, which, needless to say, was completely ineffective.

I am glad to observe that there are numerous reviews of this book that label the information within as "common sense." It seems rather ironic that those who truly require reading books such as this are the very ones who will never bother to pick them up.

Perhaps it is because they are so set in their ways or simply refuse to admit that they may be in need of guidance. Whatever the reason, it is a pity that the valuable lessons in this book may go unheeded by those who could benefit the most from them.

This book is truly my favorite.

It offers valuable insights into dealing with children in a modern context. Not only does it explain the ten rules for parents, but it also delves into various aspects related to children.

The first section of the book vividly describes the different stages and ages of children, and how they perceive the world around them. This understanding is crucial for parents to better communicate and bond with their little ones.

The next section focuses on routines and rules, highlighting their significant impact on children's future behavior. It also emphasizes the importance of setting appropriate boundaries when dealing with children, which reflects respect on both sides.

Moreover, the book touches upon other aspects that shape good manners in children, such as proper clothing, eating habits, social skills, and bedtime. These details are essential for parents to guide their children towards becoming well-rounded individuals.

At the end of the book, it provides practical advice for mothers on how to carve out some time for themselves. This is a much-needed reminder for busy moms to take care of their own well-being.

I firmly believe that this book is an excellent and unique resource for mothers who lack the background knowledge on how to deal with children. It presents the steps in a modern and accessible way, enabling mothers to easily accept and follow the rules that will help them correct their child's behaviors.

Therefore, I highly recommend this book to all parents who are eager to learn about new ways to interact with their children and raise them in a positive and nurturing environment.

From the books that suddenly a way is found for reading.

I prefer that the author also mentions the reason rather than just stating a series of points to be followed.

It's important to understand the motivation behind the writing.

Merely presenting a list of guidelines may not engage the reader as effectively.

By sharing the reason, the author can establish a stronger connection with the audience.

This helps the readers to better relate to the content and understand its significance.

Moreover, it gives the readers a sense of purpose and direction while reading.

So, I think it would be more beneficial if the author includes the reason along with the points in the book.

This way, the readers can have a more comprehensive and fulfilling reading experience.

As a first-time parent, I absolutely adored this book, and my love for it persists to this day!

It has become a book that I frequently return to for reference. The reason I picked up this book was because I was deeply impressed by Jo's gentle approach to interacting with children.

She is both gentle and firm simultaneously, never stooping to bargaining or yelling. As a mom-to-be, I aspire to be like that.

I have also made the decision to raise my children without resorting to spanking, and it is truly wonderful to have guidance on how to administer consequences without falling back on the option of smacking them.

The advice provided in this book is excellent, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to any first-time parent. It offers valuable insights and practical strategies that can help make the journey of parenting a more positive and fulfilling experience.

Whether you are facing challenges with discipline, communication, or simply want to enhance your relationship with your child, this book has something to offer.

Give it a read, and you won't be disappointed!
