Eh. 2.5 stars?
Maybe this is for big fans of the show? (I've only seen bits of it a few times). I confess I was looking for quick-fix ideas for the terrible-toddler phase. However, this was more of a super basic, first-time parent owners manual with very little that I hadn't heard elsewhere.
On the positive side, it did have good little bullet point sections which were helpful (as opposed to other books directed at parents which drone on for pages and pages). Here are a few points from one bullet-note page I liked (good reminders): "How to talk to your child". Praise your child when he's behaving well. Talk to your child in a positive way (instead of saying, your hands are dirty, say, let's wash hands now, and then we'll sit on the sofa together). Don't be abrupt or bark commands. Don't scream and shout. Never use hurtful words to label your child, make it clear that it's the bad behavior you dislike, not the child. Don't compare your child with their siblings and never talk about them to a third party when they're in earshot. Don't offer too many choices to a small child. Don't bargain with a child having a tantrum. Go large - children read your body language. Be playful in the way you talk to your child.
Geschenk von der Schwiegermutter. Geht gaaaaar nicht.
Receiving a gift from the mother-in-law can sometimes be a rather challenging situation. It might not always go as smoothly as one hopes. There could be various reasons for this. Maybe the gift doesn't match one's taste or needs. Or perhaps there is some underlying tension or misunderstanding between the two. It could also be that the mother-in-law has different expectations or ideas about what would make a suitable gift. In any case, when it doesn't go well, it can cause some awkwardness or discomfort. However, it's important to handle the situation with grace and respect. Try to find a way to express gratitude while also gently addressing any concerns or issues. This way, it might be possible to turn the situation around and build a better relationship with the mother-in-law.
Best pieces of advice! It truly saved my life and sanity in controlling my toddler.
Among all, The Voice of Authority helped me the most. I found that not shouting across the room and coming down to the height of the child when talking to them are immensely helpful techniques. This simple act makes the child feel more respected and listened to.
Moreover, there are many other useful techniques in this book. Each one is like a precious gem that can transform the way we interact with our toddlers.
Just one word for this book - WOW! It is a must-read for every parent who is struggling to manage their little ones. I highly recommend it.
