A philosophical story that is dominated by a romantic and imaginative character, life after death, love, resurrection so that the lovers can live together a love story that their first lives did not allow them to live, two people whom death united and life separated..

Throughout my reading of the story, I wondered, is this possible?

Is it really true that life kills love and death resurrects it? Does love not withstand the battles of life and is it brutally crushed under its pressure..

I think that Bob and Eve did not love each other, that was not true love, there was no mutual trust on which their relationship was based.

He did not trust that she would leave her life and go with him and she did not trust in his love. The only fruit that their relationship produced was that they saved the little girl from the womb of her cruel mother and husband. Their love was a lie that deceived their hearts about life and separated them based on the truth of their weakness. Love gave them a chance to win and again they returned defeated, clearly indicating that love is not a true warrior to withstand the blows of life, but rather flees in a hurry and shrinks on itself.. Love does not win if it is not protected with strength by true lovers.

The play is a fable that carries within it some frustrating questions, not in religion or calling for heresy but in reflection.. And the question that remains unanswered.. Is love blessed by life or is it burdened by its hardships until it disappears?

The story is very enjoyable but the printing mistakes and the disastrous translation.

Bisschen enttäuschend. This simple phrase holds a certain amount of disappointment. It might refer to a situation that didn't quite meet expectations. Maybe it was a movie that wasn't as good as hoped, a product that didn't perform as promised, or an event that didn't turn out as planned. The feeling of being a little disappointed can be quite common in our daily lives. We often have high hopes and when they aren't fully realized, it can leave us with a sense of letdown. However, it's important to remember that disappointment is a natural part of life. It can also serve as a learning experience, helping us to adjust our expectations and make better choices in the future. So, while "Bisschen enttäuschend" might not be a pleasant feeling, it can ultimately lead to personal growth and a more realistic outlook on life.

The fact that nothing can change a person and their choices (perhaps these two are the same thing) is terrifying.

When it comes to unchanging choices, can we even talk about a "choice"?

A choice implies the possibility of different options and the freedom to select one over the others. However, if a person's choices are fixed and unalterable, it seems as if the very essence of choice is lost.

It makes one wonder if there is any real agency or responsibility in such a situation. Are we truly in control of our decisions, or are they predetermined by forces beyond our understanding?

The idea of unchanging choices challenges our fundamental beliefs about free will and personal autonomy. It forces us to confront the uncomfortable reality that our choices may not be as free as we like to think.

This concept also has implications for how we view others and their actions. If their choices are unchangeable, should we judge them differently?

These are complex questions that require careful consideration and reflection.

(Can we really try to live a second life?)..

This is the question with which Sartre, the proponent of existentialism, ended this work, which greatly summarizes the idea of this play as a whole.

An existential play about life and love.

Life with all its complexities, problems, and struggles.

And love with all its passions, joys, and madnesses.

And the question that Sartre poses remains: if we have the freedom to live again,

and if one day we have the opportunity to live another life with love and only for love, can we do it and enjoy it to the fullest? Or will life soon reappear on the surface with all its never-ending struggles?

Can we take advantage of the opportunity of a second existence to live the love that we did not live and neglected in our first life?

I think Sartre answered all these questions at the end of the play.

It was shown that love is ultimately just a piece of paper with no weight or value in the face of the storms of life.

No matter how many lives a person has and no matter how he enjoys eternal existence, he will always be busy with his other struggles rather than trying to make life full of love.

My first readings of this philosopher, the idea was a good fantasy.

But the events and the construction of the play or the scenario did not appeal to me.

But as a beginning with the works of this existential philosopher, it's okay.

Finished.

Sartre's scenario-novel is a captivating book that takes us to different places with short headings and can be read in one sitting. It tells the story of two people who don't know each other in real life but fall in love after death when they are given a chance to return to life. In fact, in the novel, these two "different" people who are attracted to each other after death perhaps draw closer because they have nothing else to do and no other lives to lead in the afterlife. Because when they are given the chance to return to life, a condition is imposed that when they return, they must be obsessed with each other for 24 hours and live without thinking of anything else. They cannot achieve this. What comes to mind here is the reason for their failure. Both of them cannot break away from the incompleteness of their lives and are in a hurry to complete it. They cannot break away even as the hours pass. It can be said that the other life has made them so lonely that they have fallen in love with each other for that reason. Just like when we really feel lonely and empty, we fall in love!

Note: The concept of the afterlife reminded me of the movie City of Angels ;)

A philosophical story that takes place between life and death (a kind of underworld) and deals with the question of whether we can overcome our lives. Written engagingly.

This story delves deep into the profound themes of existence and the human condition. It explores the boundaries between the living world and the realm of the dead, presenting a thought-provoking scenario that challenges our perceptions.

As we follow the protagonist's journey, we are forced to confront our own beliefs and fears about life and death. The vivid descriptions and well-developed characters draw us into this mysterious and captivating world, making us question whether we too could find the strength to overcome the obstacles that stand in our way.

Overall, this is a powerful and engaging philosophical tale that will leave readers pondering long after they have turned the final page.

I had read it a long time ago. I wanted to read it again but I couldn't remember the name of the book nor the author. By chance, I found it and read it again. It's a fateful book.

This book holds a special place in my heart. Although the details had faded from my memory, when I rediscovered it, it was like reuniting with an old friend. The story within its pages had the power to transport me to another world, to make me feel a range of emotions. It was as if fate had intervened, leading me back to this particular book at just the right time. Reading it again was a wonderful experience, and it reminded me of the joy that can be found in the written word. I'm grateful for this unexpected encounter with a book that has now become even more precious to me.

This is not a book that reveals new secrets when you read it for the third time. The writing style is businesslike and direct, actually a film script. It's about the plot, but still...even if this is known, it remains a pleasant book to read because Sartre writes so vividly and the magical-realist aspect of the Rue de Languésie continues to fascinate. As well as the choices of the main characters, which place the pessimistic tendency of the book in the naturalistic tradition.

I think this book is an absolute must-read for young readers because it makes the question arise for what we live. For ourselves? For others? And how pliable are we still once we have made our choices, once the die has been cast? Is there then still a way back? It enables the (young) reader to pose existential questions in a simple way. That especially is the added value.

Moreover, the story unfolds in a captivating manner, drawing the reader into a world that is both familiar and strange. The characters are well-developed, with their own flaws and virtues, making them relatable to the reader. The setting, the Rue de Languésie, adds an extra layer of mystery and charm to the narrative.

Overall, this book is a thought-provoking and engaging read that will leave a lasting impression on the reader. It challenges us to think about our own lives and the choices we make, and to question the meaning and purpose of our existence.

The story is about Eve Charlize and the old man. After death, they become interested in each other, and this interest provides them with the possibility of returning to life, on the condition that they remain in love for one day. However, Charlize and the old man fail to successfully return to the world of the living...

What I liked about this story at first glance was the play-like tone and descriptions. And later in the book, I found out that this work was actually a screenplay written by Sartre... Throughout the whole story, I knew that these two would not succeed; I was angry that Eve, because of her sister, her desire and loss, and the old man, because of his empty-headed friends, lose the possibility of falling in love and living more.

Do they not find anything more valuable than life after death and seeing other people? Sometimes I ask myself what I would do if I were in their place. Would I be present to witness the mass killing of my friends, no matter how empty-headed they are? Would I be present to witness the destruction of my sister's life, no matter how stupid she is?... I don't know... Anyway, perhaps there is no possibility of return after death, as I might say from the title of the book. That is, after death... Work from the past:)

I would rate this book 3.75 stars, I guess.

I truly relished reading this book. The story was engaging and held my attention from start to finish.

Moreover, I really liked the idea that was presented behind it. It made me think and reflect on various aspects of life and human nature.

This experience has definitely not been my last encounter with Sartre's works. I am eager to explore more of his writings and see what other profound insights and ideas he has to offer.

I believe that each of his books has the potential to open up new perspectives and expand my understanding of the world.

Overall, I am glad that I picked up this book and look forward to many more reading adventures with Sartre.

An engaging and entertaining piece that flowed effortlessly.

This was truly an entertaining piece that proved to be a smooth read. It presented a refreshing departure from the common focus on existentialism, instead centering on determinism. The execution was quite good and entertaining. However, the philosophical depth didn't strike me as forcefully or profoundly as in some other works. In fact, one could argue that it lacked a certain polemical edge.

Perhaps my expectations were unconsciously shaped by the author's philosophical essays, given that this is a screenplay we're discussing. Nevertheless, I found the presentation to be skillful, and the visual descriptions were vividly articulated. To such an extent that I temporarily lost sight of the expected direction of the narrative.

Yet, it didn't captivate me as much as I had hoped. This is mainly because I have a strong penchant for deterministic literature and a profound admiration for Sartre's work. Consequently, I was somewhat "disappointed" that my expectations weren't fully realized; I had anticipated more from this encounter.

Nonetheless, when considering the plot, it remains more than just readable. I am definitely looking forward to watching the film in the near future!!

This was the very first book that I delved into by Sartre. And without a doubt, it remains my absolute favorite to this day. I find it rather difficult to precisely put into words why this is so. However, I believe it is that tiny glimmer of hope that manages to shine through the backdrop of this novel, at least up until the very end.

Strangely enough, that said hope seems to be completely absent in every single work of his that I have had the opportunity to read since then. It's almost as if this particular novel holds a special charm, a unique quality that sets it apart from the rest.

Moreover, the movie that was made based on this book is truly remarkable in its own way. It manages to capture the essence and spirit of the novel, bringing its characters and story to life in a vivid and engaging manner. The cinematography, the acting, and the overall production values all contribute to making it a truly wonderful adaptation.
