NO HUMANS INVOLVED (Women of the Otherworld #7) by Kelley Armstrong

NO HUMANS INVOLVED is the seventh full-length novel in Kelley Armstrong's captivating Women of the Otherworld series. It features Jaime Vegas, a necromancer known for her ability to'speak to the dead', and Alpha leader Jeremy Danvers. In this story, Jaime finally gets her chance with Jeremy, and we discover a side of him that was previously unknown.

Jaime is invited to a live televised taping with other experts in the field. However, she is the only true necromancer and has uncovered a mysterious burial ground right under their noses. She relays this information to Elena and finds unexpected help from Jeremy Danvers. Jaime has been trying to get Jeremy to notice her for a long time, but her inner geek and dufus always take over when she is around him. To her surprise, Jeremy reveals that he has noticed her for several years, but his duties and reserve have held him back.

As Jaime and Jeremy search for the burial ground outside the hotel, they uncover a mass grave of young children. Eve Levine and Kristof Nash return to help Jaime communicate with the spirits of the children and help them crossover. Karl is called in when Hope and Jaime go missing and find themselves imprisoned by a cult-like group hoping to gain power through an ancient ritual. Meanwhile, Jaime and Jeremy's relationship takes a significant step forward as Jaime becomes the girlfriend of the American Alpha.
NO HUMANS INVOLVED is one of my favorite storylines in Kelley's WOTO series. I am a big fan of the werewolves, and Jeremy especially tugs at my heart. When he finally finds his mate, he shows that he is not your typical alpha male. It takes a strong and feminine woman like Jaime to tame his inner beast. And Jaime's seduction of Jeremy is one of the sexiest in Kelley Armstrong's WOTO series.

Armstrong's books are truly enjoyable reads. They are filled with wonderful female characters that truly stand out. In fact, one could argue that her characters are even more engaging and entertaining than the plot itself. Armstrong should be commended for creating a group of women who are not only friends with each other but also strong in their own unique ways. What's more, she doesn't burden each woman with a tragic past, which is a refreshing departure from the norm. It is truly a delight to read a book where the women interact and communicate with each other, and the focus isn't solely on men. Jamie, the central character in this story, is also a wonderful addition. She is over 35, which adds an interesting dimension to her character and makes her relatable to a wider audience.

I've never been overly invested in Jamie's character. So, when I picked up this book, I didn't anticipate being overly interested. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

Jamie is sassy and highly entertaining. It's quite interesting to read from the point of view of a character in her 40's. It offers a different perspective and adds a unique flavor to the story.

I would have preferred to see more of a build-up to her and Jeremy's relationship in the prior books. Other than her having a crush on him and him not noticing, there wasn't much development. But, I went along with it, and it worked well enough for the current story.

While it did strike me that Jeremy seemed a bit out of character, I simply attributed it to the fact that this is the first time we're seeing his character in a different context, not around the pack.

I did like their "romance" (or rather, sex) scene. It's now my second favorite, right after Clay & Elena's tied to the tree one from Bitten.

Overall, it was a good book. If you haven't read the prior 6 books, I highly recommend doing so. It gives you a much better understanding of the characters and their relationships with each other. I noticed a lot of parts in the Women of the Otherworld series that wouldn't have made sense had I not read the past books. It enriches the reading experience and makes this book even more enjoyable.
