This is probably the second-best book I have read on parenting. The number one being "Shepherding a Child's Heart" by Tedd Tripp.

I truly appreciate Priolo's unwavering commitment to the sufficiency of Scripture. It is so refreshing to see an author who bases his parenting advice firmly on the Word of God.

Moreover, his pastoral carefulness is also very evident throughout the book. He approaches the topic of parenting with great wisdom and tenderness, understanding the unique challenges and joys that come with raising children.

I would highly recommend this book, especially to parents who are eager to improve at communicating the Bible to their children. It provides practical and valuable insights that can help parents to effectively pass on their faith to the next generation.

Overall, this is a must-read for anyone who is interested in Christian parenting and wants to raise their children in a way that is pleasing to God.

Extremely practical, this guidebook is an invaluable resource for parents. It offers them the means to effectively utilize all 4 of the “profitable” ends of Scripture in their parenting journey.

As stated in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” This verse emphasizes the significance and authority of Scripture in guiding parents.

The guidebook provides practical examples and strategies on how to apply these teachings in various parenting situations. It helps parents to teach their children the principles of righteousness, reprove them when they go astray, correct their mistakes, and train them to live a life that is pleasing to God.

By following the guidance in this book, parents can raise their children to be God-fearing, responsible, and upright individuals. It equips them with the tools they need to navigate the challenges of parenting and to build a strong foundation for their children's future.

This is a rather excellent book regarding parenting.

I truly appreciate the author's emphasis on the importance of reaching the heart while parenting. He offers numerous thought-provoking questions that one can pose to their kids when correcting them and also while attempting to guide them.

However, at times, he can seem a bit extreme when he categorizes people into "psychobabble" molds. It's either the so-called psychobabble or his own, which he terms as the biblical camp. Or, at least, that's the impression I garnered from some of his statements.

On a humorous note, he is providing instructions on how to communicate the Bible to kids. So, he writes, "Be sure to use vocabulary commensurate with your child's ability to understand." This sentence is quite a tongue-twister considering what he is trying to convey. Recognizing that it requires clarification, he follows it with the helpful parenthetical words - "Eschew obfuscation." I found it ironic that while he was discussing presenting truth at a level that kids can understand, he himself used difficult and abstract terms!

Overall, I believe this is a great book. I can identify with other reviews that mention it can be overwhelming as well. Nevertheless, it has already been of great assistance to me, particularly in the section on apology and asking for forgiveness for kids.

It's a book that I would recommend to parents who are looking for practical and insightful guidance on parenting.

I really made a sincere effort to love this book. The underlying premise is indeed good and correct. We simply cannot rear our children without taking into account their hearts. However, unfortunately, it has become a Did Not Finish (DNF) for me. The language of absolutes employed in this book was of no assistance to me and precludes me from recommending it.

It is stated that if I am not spanking my child, I am disobeying God. The author stresses that it should be applied to every child: “The rod is the only specific means the Bible designates when it addresses the discipline of children. Therefore, it should be used consistently with every child.” Additionally, “The spanking must be sufficiently forceful to make an impression. If you have adhered to [these] guidelines... and your child remains angry and sullen after the spanking, you probably have not spanked hard enough or long enough.” As a foster and adoptive parent, I am simply not permitted to lay hands on children. Does that imply that I am disobeying God? And if not, what should I do instead?

The author also completely pits mental health against sin, dismissing the former entirely. “You’ll never discover the biblical solution for rebellion, anger, or insubordination by looking up (even) in the most comprehensive concordance the term Oppositional Defiance Disorder.”

While there are numerous great truths that can be gleaned from this book, I felt as though it was so muddled that I simply could not continue attempting to sift out the gold from the dirt. Perhaps it will be beneficial to you, but I am certain that some other resources, such as those by Charlotte Mason, would be of much greater assistance.

Another outstanding parenting book!

If you have a penchant for Ginger Plowman's Don't Make Me Count to Three, then you are bound to appreciate this one as well.

Once you peruse Priolo's book, you can clearly observe his influence on Plowman.

I was slightly perturbed by his gender-stereotypical illustrations (such as "you, women, when you're putting on your makeup in the mornings..." and "You men, when you do [something sports related]").

This was partly because I seldom apply makeup, yet his point was effectively conveyed nonetheless.

This book might pose a challenge when it comes to parenting extremely young children. However, similar to Shepherding a Child's Heart, it is an excellent resource in general.

Plowman's book serves as a wonderful summary of both Shepherding and Teach. Nevertheless, this book is still worthy of being read even if you have already read Plowman's work.

For one thing, it has kindled in me a greater desire to read my Bible!

It is very well organized, effortless to follow, and easy to understand.

Overall, it is a valuable addition to any parenting library.

Our daughter and son-in-law presented us with this book to assist us in comprehending their intentions and objectives regarding the upbringing of their children, our charming grandchildren. :) After perusing the content of this book and closely observing their child-rearing practices for nearly five years, I cannot emphasize enough how highly I recommend this book.

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, or anyone who is earnest about living a life in accordance with Christ and guiding others to do the same, it serves as an outstanding resource, source of encouragement, and practical guide. It compelled me to emerge from my spiritual indolence and abide by God's command to know the scriptures, live them out, explain their significance, and apply them. It's not merely about learning facts but rather applying the truths.

For those directly engaged in child-rearing, it details how to teach, convict, correct, train, and discipline using God's word. For all of us, it reveals the importance of structuring our lives around getting to know God through His word and cultivating both proper patterns of thinking and good habits that contribute to the manifestation of the righteousness of Christ in our daily lives. This is an excellent book indeed.

I'd say 3.5 stars if they let me.

This is a simple and practical call for parents. It urges them to utilize the Scriptures to teach their children and "bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."

It offers a general overview of Biblical parenting, filled with numerous helpful illustrations and suggestions.

Certainly, it is convicting as Priolo describes all the various ways and times when Bible teaching can and should be carried out on a regular basis.

Parents are provided with valuable insights and guidance on how to incorporate the teachings of the Bible into their daily interactions with their children.

This book serves as a useful resource for those who are committed to raising their children in accordance with the principles and values of the Lord.

It emphasizes the importance of consistent Bible teaching and how it can have a profound impact on the spiritual growth and development of children.

Overall, it is a worthwhile read for parents who are seeking to fulfill their God-given responsibility of teaching their children about the Lord.
