This book presented a significant challenge, yet it was extremely helpful.

It emphasized that the Scriptures should hold a central place in our parenting. Priolo's work really pushed me to have a deep understanding of the Scripture so that I could provide a relevant verse or passage whenever I instructed my children.

Moreover, ever since reading this book, I have been actively seeking every possible opportunity to share with my children what God reveals in His word. This is not just limited to the times when the children disobey and require correction.

I initially debated awarding this book 5 stars solely based on its content. However, after careful consideration, I decided on 4 stars because it could benefit from a bit better editing.

Despite this minor drawback, the overall value and impact of the book on my parenting approach have been substantial.

I would highly recommend this book to other parents who are looking to incorporate the teachings of the Bible into their daily parenting.

It has truly been a game-changer for me and has given me a new perspective on how to raise my children in a way that is pleasing to God.

Priolo not only convicts but also encourages in his call to raise children "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."

He presents a powerful biblical argument for training children in accordance with scripture, and offers a wealth of practical examples and tools for implementation.

This book is also filled with the gospel, making it clear that our task as parents (or anyone responsible for a child's spiritual growth) is reliant on God's grace in our lives.

It is the kind of book that I will return to often, as it provides valuable guidance and inspiration for the important task of raising children in a godly way.

Whether you are a new parent or have been raising children for years, this book has something to offer.

It challenges us to be intentional in our parenting and to look to God for the wisdom and strength we need to raise children who will grow up to love and serve the Lord.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in raising children in a way that is faithful to the teachings of the Bible.

This is an outstanding Christian parenting book.

It imparts to parents the knowledge of how to educate, convict, correct, and train their children by means of the Scriptures.

Moreover, it serves as a reminder that our utmost priority should be to establish a relationship with The Lord and engage in the study of His Word.

There exists no other alternative through which we can effectively utilize the Scriptures to disciple our kids.

The author urges us to structure our schedules around God's Word, rather than merely attempting to fit the Bible into our already overcrowded schedules.

This is truly excellent advice!

I am frequently convicted by the thought that if I were to have a deeper understanding of the Bible, I would be a far better (that is, more biblical and more godly) parent.

Let us now strive to become such parents!

This book is among the top parenting resources, along with Paul David Tripp's "Shepherding a Child's heart" and "Instructing a child's heart", John MacArthur's "Successful Christian parenting", and other works by Lou Priolo.

It offers valuable insights and practical guidance for parents who desire to raise their children in accordance with the teachings of the Bible.

By following the principles and advice presented in this book, parents can help their children develop a strong foundation in the faith and grow into godly individuals.

I read this as reference material. It is an extremely easy read, which makes it very convenient for me to understand and absorb the content.

Moreover, by bookmarking specific pages, I am able to quickly locate the example of ill behavior as well as several advising scripture references. This not only saves my time but also allows me to have a more targeted study.

The appendix of this material is particularly helpful. It provides additional information and details that further enhance my understanding of the main text. The content in the appendix is presented in a clear and organized manner, making it easy to follow and refer back to when needed. Overall, this reference material is a valuable resource for me in my studies and research.

This book was good,

but it was not the best one I've read on child-rearing.

Overall, there were some excellent instructions, tips, and thoughts on using scripture to support the process of raising children.

However, my main criticism was that the gospel and the love of Christ, which should be the main focus of the household, were absent.

Moreover, household devotions were not really discussed at all.

This lack of emphasis on the core aspects of the Christian faith in the context of child-rearing was a significant drawback for me.

I believe that without a strong foundation in the gospel and a regular practice of household devotions, it is difficult to raise children with a deep understanding and love for God.

Despite these shortcomings, the book did offer some valuable insights and practical advice that could be useful for parents who are looking for ways to incorporate scripture into their child-rearing practices.

However, I would recommend that readers supplement this book with other resources that place a greater emphasis on the gospel and household devotions.

I really loved this book initially. There was a questionable section on spanking, but the author did manage to make his point about the importance of having some form of effective discipline. I was so inspired that I've started having my children memorize scripture and teaching them about the right behavior that pleases the Lord. Thanks, Lou!

However, upon reading it for the second time in 2024, 8.5 years later, I'm not entirely sure why I loved it so much before. The premise of teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness using the scriptures is a good one. But it seems to be very works-based, and it gives the impression that there's little room for the Holy Spirit to do the convicting at times. As a mom of 5, I will adopt some of his suggestions. However, the rest are either too strict to actually implement or way too complicated to remember. I'll trust the Holy Spirit to bring His word to my mind when disciplining my children and rely on some written lists to find certain applicable scriptures. I had to DNF (Did Not Finish) this book, but I'm still counting it in a way!

I guess my perspective has changed over the years, and while there are some valuable insights in the book, it doesn't quite resonate with me as strongly as it did before. Maybe it's because I've gained more experience in parenting and have a better understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit in the lives of my children.

This book can initially seem overwhelming. However, I firmly believe that parenting would be an even more arduous task for me if I didn't have this invaluable godly advice readily available. The role of a Christian parent is a noble and challenging calling. And Priolo does an outstanding job of reminding parents that it is a continuous process of sanctification, not only for our children but also for us as parents. We cannot be diligent in teaching the scriptures if we ourselves are not well-versed in them. Therefore, he commences by addressing the parents directly.

He demonstrates to parents "how to relate the Bible to the disciplinary process in practical ways". Priolo, being a counselor, teaches parents how to diagnose the thoughts and motives of their children "not in words taught by human wisdom but in those taught by the spirit...(I Cor 2:13)".

In his chapter on spanking, he is cautious to provide Biblical guidelines without overstepping the boundaries of the scriptures and becoming legalistic. I particularly appreciate that he excludes all the "wisdom of this world" from it.

Overall, I consider this to be the best parenting book I have ever read. It doesn't merely offer steps, formulas, or advice; instead, it teaches me how to search the scriptures and apply them. Simultaneously, it serves as a highly practical handbook that I can begin to implement immediately. I have perused other popular parenting books, but I firmly believe that this one will be by far the most beneficial to me.

*Priolo's book, "The Heart of Anger", didn't pique my interest before I read this current book. However, I am now discovering that it makes for an excellent companion book. It appears to be most suitable for older children (than mine) and specifically focuses on anger. Consequently, I didn't pay much attention to it previously. But the list of 25 ways parents can provoke their children to anger is truly convicting. It is assisting me in confronting my parenting shortcomings!

A few good ideas were presented, but mostly it was rather disturbing.

"The spanking must be sufficiently robust to make an impression. If you have followed [these:] guidelines... and your child is still angry and sullen after the spanking, you probably have not spanked hard enough." Reeeeeeeally?

The writing comes across as arrogant. Although the author claims not to believe in behavior modification, it is quite clear that he is a behaviorist.

His approach seems to be focused on using physical punishment as a means to control a child's behavior.

This view忽视了孩子的情感和心理需求,可能会对孩子的成长产生负面影响。

There are many other more positive and effective ways to discipline and guide children, such as through positive reinforcement, setting clear boundaries, and having open communication.

Parents should strive to understand their children and build healthy relationships based on respect and trust, rather than relying on harsh physical punishment.

I'm currently reading this book.

As my son enters the terrible 2's, Philip and I are desperately trying to read up on what our disciplinary approach will be as parents.

We understand that this is a crucial stage in his development, and we want to handle it in the best way possible.

The book provides valuable insights and strategies on how to deal with the challenges that come with this age.

We are learning about the importance of setting clear boundaries, being consistent in our discipline, and using positive reinforcement.

We hope that by implementing these techniques, we can help our son learn self-control and respect for others.

Reading this book has been a great source of guidance for us, and we look forward to applying what we have learned in our daily interactions with our son.

We know that parenting is not easy, but with the right knowledge and approach, we are confident that we can raise a happy and well-adjusted child.
