Maybe it's because my expectations were too high.

But this was like extremely boring.

Not to mention David, he was really boring and annoying.

I had been looking forward to this event or situation with great anticipation, imagining all the interesting things that could happen. However, as it unfolded, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The activities or conversations were so dull that I could hardly stay engaged.

And then there was David. His presence only added to the boredom. He seemed to have nothing interesting to say or do, and his behavior was quite irritating at times.

I found myself constantly looking at the clock, hoping for it to end soon. It's a shame that something that started with so much promise ended up being such a letdown.

Stephen King is truly a remarkable author, and I will never be able to fully understand how he has the ability to invent so many stories at such a great pace, and yet all of them turn out to be fresh and new.

I read the version of "The Mist" which, due to its size, can be understood as a complete novel, and it also includes two short stories, "The Monkey" and "Mrs. Todd's Shortcut".

Regarding "The Mist", I already knew this extremely well-known story, mainly thanks to its film adaptations. I had wanted to muster up the courage to read it for a long time, but I felt that perhaps it might disappoint me since I already knew the entire plot beforehand. However, that was not the case. It is a story that is enjoyable from beginning to end, just like always with King. Even the ending in this case seemed quite satisfactory and realistic within the supernatural context of the story.

Secondly, we have "The Monkey". This story confirms to me that this man is a genius. He takes a toy monkey, one of those with a huge smile and two cymbals, and already has a spine-chilling story. And he can do it with anything. I will never look at a toy monkey in the same way again.

Finally, we come to "Mrs. Todd's Shortcut". Although at first it may seem lesser in comparison to the other two since in this case it is not a horror story presented to us, it is by no means that. Two men in a bank. One of them relates the story of a woman who disappeared. A woman who is not forgotten. A mysterious disappearance. It's a pity that it is so short. I would have enjoyed a full-length novel of this story.

In summary, King does not disappoint.

Stephen King never disappoints and leaves me with a good taste in my mouth, just as it happened to me with El umbral de la noche.

His works are always captivating and full of surprises. In this case, "La niebla", "El mono", and "El atajo de la señora Todd" are all excellent stories.

"La niebla" receives a rating of 4, which indicates its high quality. It likely has a thrilling plot and well-developed characters that keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

"El mono" also gets a 4, suggesting that it is equally engaging. Maybe it has a unique premise or a twist that makes it stand out.

"El atajo de la señora Todd" earns a 3, which is still a good score. It might have some interesting elements, although perhaps not as strong as the other two stories.

Overall, Stephen King continues to prove himself as a master of the horror and thriller genres. I highly recommend checking out these stories and the complete review at https://thousand-worlds.blogspot.com/2020/01/la-niebla.html.

For yet another time, Stephen King did not disappoint me!

Agony, fear, survival, wonderful characters and absolutely exaggerated!! I'm sure that in such a situation, all of these characters would surely exist.

description

I don't want to play it smart, but the only thing that let me down a little was the lack of ideas of the heroes. You are trapped inside a supermarket, outside there is an anomaly... and you don't find weapons inside the supermarket???? With a baseball bat and a TEZA spray, you can't go anywhere. It seems a bit odd that in such a desperate situation, they didn't manage to find more useful tools or come up with more creative ways to deal with the situation. However, despite this small flaw, the story is still full of excitement and tension, and the characters are so vivid that they draw you into their world and make you care about their fate. Overall, it's another great work by Stephen King that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

First October Halloween read of the year! I made the decision to read this particular book, mainly because it is shorter compared to a great number of the other Stephen King books. Given that I have numerous other reads on my list as well, it appeared to be a nice addition beside the others.

The movie adaptation of this book is one that I haven't had the opportunity to watch yet. The reason being, I don't usually watch horror movies as I find them overly scary. For some inexplicable reason, however, I do have a penchant for reading horror books. Stephen King's writing style is so vivid and lively that I find myself completely engrossed in his books whenever I read them. When a writer can pen a book that manages to instill fear in the reader, it truly showcases an immense gift.

The mere thought of being trapped in this mist is absolutely terrifying. Just the idea alone makes me shiver. And the next time there is mist in my area, I will undoubtedly think about it in a completely different light. The things described in the mist sounded truly horrifying and were the stuff of nightmares.

Even after finishing this book, I am left with a plethora of questions. What exactly happened and why? Additionally, the ending couldn't be more open-ended than it is. I simply can't tolerate such ambiguity.

I admit that there are very few conscious influences in my writing. However, I must confess that when I was beginning to take writing stories seriously, I read a great deal of Stephen King. For a couple of years, my prose had (even in my own eyes) a distinctively Kingian flavor to it. The literati may turn up their noses at King, but he is truly top-notch. I believe that most of their disdain stems from the fact that he is extremely wealthy, and they enjoy looking down on others.

I read this story a long time ago and watched the film many years later (twice, as it is a great film). It is a novella that was included in a collection of other King stories and was one of the best. Like all of King's novels and novellas, it is about people. To explore his characters, King always tightens the screws on them, squeezing until they are under extreme pressure, because people are more interesting when they are stressed. If you are writing about people who are not under stress, you are almost always writing literary fiction.

In this particular story, the pressure is applied swiftly and completely. The world quickly descends into chaos, and our main character finds himself trapped in a supermarket with his loved ones and a group of random strangers while all kinds of horrors try to break in. It develops into a "Lord of the Flies" scenario, with the supermarket substituting for the island where the original stranding occurs. Factions are formed, scapegoats are hunted, people revert to their true natures, and religion becomes a weapon to use against others. Eventually, scapegoats turn into escapegoats, and a desperate attempt is made to break free against overwhelming odds.

It is an imaginative, well-written, and unflinching story that is tightly focused on its narrative while still feeling从容 and not rushed. I'm not sure why I originally gave it 4 stars, but now that I have finally written a review, I am awarding it an extra star.

If you are a great writer, you can even show your worth in a 236-page booklet!!! The King writes a dystopian story that, although it seems simple, manages to convey his messages about the destruction of the environment and the consequences this will surely have for humanity, to form complete characters and not caricatures, to create emotions and a claustrophobic atmosphere, and to ridicule and satirize once again the American way of life and American shallowness (or stupidity)! And, of course, to give us an ending that is truly worthy of a book with such a theme, leaving a small spark of hope, and not resorting to easy solutions.

OK, we're not talking about one of the best at the moment, but the artistry of the story is memorable.

Read it (7/10).

P.S.: I still believe - and will always support - that King is better when he talks about the global and tells everyday stories, rather than when he writes about ghosts and monsters, which personally don't convince me...

Genre: Horror

The Mist is one of the captivating short stories penned by Stephen King and featured in his collection Skeleton Crew. This standalone edition offers a thrilling read. The story is told from the perspective of the protagonist, David. After a stormy night, David heads to the supermarket with his son and neighbor to purchase some groceries. However, their trip takes a terrifying turn when a strange mist envelopes them, trapping them inside the supermarket. With the mist comes horrific and unexperienced things.

If you haven't watched the movie adaptation, you're in for a treat full of surprises. Even if you have seen the movie, reading the story will give you a different experience. The trope of being trapped in an isolated place with horror lurking both outside and inside is one that I particularly enjoy. And Stephen King's masterful storytelling in The Mist is no exception. In just under 200 pages, King creates some fantastic characters. Mrs. Carmody, for instance, is a unique and terrifying force from within. Sometimes, the characters seem more afraid of her than of the creatures. In the book, she is an old lady with distinct physical features. Marcia Gay Harden's portrayal of her in the film, although not age-appropriate, is a powerful performance that leaves a lasting impact.

Stephen King keeps the ending ambiguous, leaving it to the reader's imagination. The book's open ending depicts both hope and uncertainty. The movie, on the other hand, has a more Hollywood-style ending that King also liked. I appreciate both endings as they work well for the story. This was a fun read with plenty of tension-building moments. Now that I've read the book, I'm planning to watch the TV series adaptation, despite hearing some negative reviews.

Note: The Mist is part of my reading journey through Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. It is Book No. 9 out of the 24 books I will be reading for this series.

I have an intense love for a well-crafted villain. However, my affection for a good villain pales in comparison to my adoration for a great monster. This particular piece was deliciously creepy, sending shivers down my spine.

Stephen King, why on earth did I have doubts about you for such a long time? Why have I deprived myself of the demented and twisted joy that your books offer throughout my entire life? It serves as a valuable lesson for me to stop being so judgmental towards authors and books that I haven't even read. One would think I would have learned my lesson when I ended up falling in love with ACOTAR after years of scoffing at the idea of fae YA and Sara J. Maas. But now, I'm making up for lost time. I've been compulsively purchasing every Stephen King book that I can get my hands on.

This book was truly excellent. It was filled with an overwhelming sense of dread and palpable tension. I would rate it a solid 4.5 stars.

“It took me twenty years of living with my father to accept the idea that being good could be good enough.”

This is my first encounter with a Stephen King book, and I'm truly astonished that it took me this long. In particular, I'm referring to this specific work. I was completely enamored with the movie adaptation, and reading the book felt almost like reliving the movie, which was an absolute delight.

The concept of the mist serving as the central theme of an entire novel is incredibly terrifying. The idea of having to confront multiple fears while trying to move forward, all the while these creatures lurk around you, invisible to the naked eye, is enough to send shivers down your spine. I constantly found myself回忆ing the scenes from the movie, and it was torturous to experience everything along with the characters. David Drayton, the protagonist, is the epitome of humanity. He embodies all the virtues and flaws that we all possess. I adored every aspect of this character and how he was almost a natural leader. His role as a father was constantly driving him, and nothing else mattered.

I believe Stephen King's horror style hinges on the power of the mind and the巧妙use of psychology to make you nervous and scared, rather than relying on disgustingly graphic scenes. However, after all the praise I've heaped on this book, the ending was just... It was even worse than some of Alfred Hitchcock's endings. I can't fathom how a novel that is otherwise so good could have such a disappointing conclusion. Thankfully, the movie managed to improve it significantly, and Thomas Jane's performance in that particular scene was simply amazing.

I truly feel that I am entitled to some form of compensation for having endured this terrible man's point of view throughout the entire book.

It has been an arduous and tiresome experience, constantly being exposed to his negative and perhaps even warped perspective.

The book seemed to be dominated by his thoughts and feelings, which made it difficult for me to fully engage and enjoy the story.

I believe that I have suffered enough by having to read through all of that, and therefore, I think it is only fair that I receive some sort of recompense.

Whether it be in the form of a refund, an apology, or something else entirely, I feel that I deserve to be compensated for this less than satisfactory reading experience.

David and his son Billy decide to venture out to the grocery store to obtain supplies following a severe storm that has struck their town. Before departing, David notices a dense mist beginning to form, and an uneasy feeling starts to build within him. However, dismissing it as nothing significant, they proceed with their mission. But their plans are soon disrupted when someone barges into the store, screaming about strange things in the mist.

The town is situated near a military base, and there are rumors circulating that nuclear testing is being carried out. As a result, everyone inside the store becomes uncertain about how to move forward. They wonder if someone will come to their rescue and have to make decisions regarding the best course of action.

I recently read "The Mist" and, in contrast to "The Thing" which I disliked, this one had a much more positive impact on me. The suspense was masterfully built up, leaving me on the edge of my seat, eagerly waiting to see if the characters would survive. I haven't watched any of the TV or movie adaptations of this story, so I came into it without any prior knowledge of the plot. I also appreciated the way it ended, although someone informed me that the movie ending is even better. Sometimes, I feel that Stephen King takes his time when writing, and perhaps he should consider reducing the details that are not directly related to the terrifying events that I'm eager to read about.
