The Mist

On March 2nd, 2023, I decided to pen this reflection even before delving into the book once again. I have read this particular book before, but this time around, I began with a copy that I purchased either from Thrift Books or The Book Celler. It's rather challenging to determine which store it was due to the sheer number of Stephen King books that I have amassed over the past few weeks. As I opened this copy, I discovered a ticket stub neatly tucked inside its cover. It was a ticket from New Orleans to Denver, with seat number 15C. Coincidentally, at the same time, there was another ticket stub on my nightstand. This one was from August 24th, 2021, and it was for a flight from Phoenix to Denver with seat number 19C. Another instance of the number 19. At this moment, I'm simply too sleepy to attach any significance to it. I just wanted to take a moment to convey to Douglas that his book has found a secure abode within our family. It will likely be perused numerous times. Thank you for the opportunity to include it in our collection and for maintaining it in such excellent condition. I'll be keeping my ticket stub close to the one already in the book. Although, likely one day, the kids will stumble upon them and add them to our bookmark collection.

This story continues to be one of my all-time favorites to listen to on rainy nights or misty days. In fact, it has become such a beloved part of our family's routine that my children have taken to reminding me to play the movie or read the story when it's foggy outside. It has become a haunting legend that we share during those dark days. It's not just a spooky story; it's also a source of entertainment in the form of a fun board game. The weather this week has been absolutely perfect for indulging in a good horror book. Fortunately for me, I have so many to choose from.

For now, the book will rest at the top of our bookshelf, with the two ticket stubs safely nestled within its pages. After we relocate, we'll need to construct new shelves to accommodate our ever-growing collection. In a sense, our home has transformed into a moving library. The books are the only constant in our lives. They have the power to make any place feel like home.

Thank you for the captivating stories.

I first read "The Mist" in 2019.

The mist is, well, just a mist. But it has the power to trap a group of people in a grocery store as it slowly creeps into a town, causing chaos and destruction.

As the situation worsens, it even enters a religious place. One of the trapped people believes that they need to sacrifice one of their own to please God and stop the mist. This leads to the formation of two groups, one in favor of the sacrifice and the other against it.

While "The Mist" may not be one of Stephen King's best works, it is still an enjoyable and entertaining exploration of human behavior. It's not overly scary, but it does have an atmospheric and eerie quality that makes it a good book to spend some time with.

Overall, it's a story that will keep you engaged and make you think about how people might react in a crisis situation.

Dreams, after all, are insubstantial things, like mist itself.

― Stephen King, The Mist

I read The Mist quite a while ago and also saw the film. Both of them scared the heck out of me, and I cannot say this book is one I enjoyed.

I see a lot of love for this book on GR, and I can understand why. Among all the books by King that I have read, this one stands out as one of the most genuinely frightening and bizarre.

However, the books by King that I have loved the most are eerie without being as in-your-face as The Mist. I'm not a huge King fan, so I don't know all of his books. But among my favorites are Carrie, Thinner, Needful Things, and The Shining.

The Mist presents a truly horrifying situation and places you right in that claustrophobic supermarket. Throughout the book, it's a pretty scary place to be. But after a while, the whole thing started to get on my nerves. I guess that's why I'm not a fan of Misery either. The setting doesn't change, and the scary situations the characters find themselves in are constant. Unlike some of the books I mentioned that I do like, this one is mostly set in one place. Although it's suspenseful, it wasn't a good kind of suspense for me.

Surprisingly, the movie wasn't botched like most of his books-to-movies adaptations. (Note: The movie version of Thinner was awful.)

So for horror purists, I have no doubt this was a great read. But I prefer my scares to be a little more subtle, and this one was too much for me. 2.5 stars.

This is a psychological horror novel penned by the renowned author Stephen King. In my humble opinion, it far surpasses the film adaptation. The characters are well-developed, the plot is captivating, and the writing is of the highest caliber.

The town of Bridgton, Maine, is blanketed in a thick mist that conceals a far greater peril for the residents. David Drayton, accompanied by his son, takes refuge in a supermarket, striving not only to endure the mist but also the terrifying creatures lurking within it. The situation is further exacerbated by the escalating tensions among the locals, some of whom turn violent.

The more I delved into this novel, the more I was enthralled. It is a fast-paced and suspenseful read that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are vivid and relatable, and I have no doubt that the ending will polarize opinions. Overall, it is a truly remarkable piece of literature that is well worth reading.

This piece of work is truly excellent.

However, the ending left me with a sense of letdown.

Perhaps it's just my personal perception, but I firmly believe that the ending of the film version is significantly better and far more courageous.

To be honest, it takes more risks and makes a stronger impact.

Nonetheless, this work is still awesome and manages to be pretty terrifying.

The overall quality is high, and it has many great aspects that keep the reader engaged.

Despite the slightly underwhelming ending, it's still a remarkable piece that showcases the author's talent.

It's just that when compared to the film's ending, it falls a little short in my eyes.

But that doesn't mean it's not worth reading or experiencing.

It still has its own charm and merits that make it a great addition to the genre.

I really enjoyed reading The Mist by Stephen King. The story creates a truly sinister atmosphere right from the start, with the thick and mysterious mist that blankets the small town. There is an air of mystery surrounding the mist that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book. The way King writes about the psychological impact of the mist on the characters is simply outstanding. You can really feel the fear, confusion, and paranoia that they experience as they are trapped within its confines. The plot is also very well-developed, with plenty of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Overall, I highly recommend The Mist to anyone who loves a good horror story. It is a must-read for fans of Stephen King and for anyone who enjoys being scared.

I have a rather interesting take on "The Mist." I don't know, but I found myself liking the movie more than the book in this case. Although, when I listened to the book on tape ages ago, it nearly scared me to death with all of its vivid sound effects! I think I would really like to get a narrated version of it again.

It's been an extremely long time since I last saw the movie, but I just remember that it completely freaked me out, while the book didn't have quite the same effect. I'm not sure if it was because seeing the things in the mist was more surreal than imagining them. But you know what? I don't really care! I still have a great love for Mr. King's books. Well, most of them anyway!

I also remember that after experiencing this, I never wanted to go out in the fog again!!!!!!

I must have watched the movie thousands of times. I remember that the first time, the ending left me in shock for quite a few minutes.

Then I started to hear that the ending of the book was different from that of the movie, and it really piqued my curiosity.

Finally, I got the courage and I have to say that I loved it and that the movie is a great adaptation. And of course, I'll stick with the ending of the movie.

Soon, review.

" The Mist" is an excellent horror novel! Stephen King skillfully combined supernatural and realistic horrors, telling a touching and dramatic story. In my opinion, the religious fanaticism in the book is a much more sinister threat than the mist and the mysterious monsters. Just like in "It", the social mores are much scarier than Pennywise himself. The father and son go to the supermarket, where they find themselves isolated with the other people there because a mysterious and impenetrable mist has descended outside. Subsequently, they try to find a way out of the situation and the tension increases significantly...

This is a truly great book.

The story it tells is captivating and engaging, taking the reader on an exciting journey.

Not only that, but the film adaptation was also very good.

It managed to bring the story to life on the big screen in a visually stunning way.

One of the most memorable scenes in the film was when the veil was ripped and the monsters flooded in.

The special effects used to create this scene were truly amazing, making it feel as if the monsters were really there.

It was a heart-pounding moment that had the audience on the edge of their seats.

Overall, both the book and the film are well worth experiencing.

They offer a unique and thrilling adventure that will leave you wanting more.

Whether you prefer to read or watch, this is a story that is sure to capture your imagination.

**Title: The Mist**
**Author: Stephen King**
**Reason for Reading: #StephenKingChallenge**
**Reading/Re-reading: Re-reading**
**My Edition: Paperback, 320 pages, Pocket**
**Rating: 3/5**

This is a small anthology that contains three short stories.

**The Mist**: This story can be read almost in one sitting. There are two points that I would like to highlight. Firstly, King explores the essence of humanity in a极限 situation. It is truly fascinating to see how people react so differently to the same event. In these differences, we can see how humans try to find a connecting thread, even to the point of setting aside their own thoughts in the name of belonging. This leads to the emergence of small tribes (groups), and leaders are practically spontaneously born (leaders of both good and dubious morality). I wouldn't say these are deep characters, but I feel this is related to the fact that the weight of the plot is focused on group dynamics rather than individualities. Secondly, the construction of the setting is excellent. There is an absolutely terrifying atmosphere that plays with the sensory aspect. The level of terror that those things we can't see but somehow feel are present can give is very high. This story combines the social and psychological aspects of human interactions with a terrifying setting, which is a formula that I personally enjoy reading very much. Both the story and its 2007 adaptation, despite their marked differences, are worth it. So if you have the opportunity, don't hesitate to watch the adaptation. But be good kids and read the story first! (hahaha). **4.5/5**

**The Monkey**: This is a short story about a cursed object, which is a topic that attracts me (especially if they are toys). But I must confess that in this case, everything feels a bit lacking. The story is told in the format of two parallel stories, but we are never given important information about the object (such as its origin or how this kind of curse arises). The characters lack depth and strength, and at times they gave me the feeling of being flat. The plot has many holes and there are several loose ends. **2.5/5**

**Mrs. Todd's Shortcut**: This story is like arriving in the middle of a conversation and no one explains to you what is going on. The information is zero context. **1.5/5**
