That was crazy!

Talk about a story that will only make me paranoid. It's truly astonishing how this seemingly omnipresent organization is purportedly trying to make people better. The very idea sends shivers down my spine.

I can't help but wonder what their true motives are. Are they really as altruistic as they claim? Or is there something more sinister lurking beneath the surface?

The fact that they seem to be everywhere, influencing and shaping people's lives, is both fascinating and terrifying. It makes me question everything I thought I knew about this world.

As I reflect on this story, I find myself becoming increasingly paranoid. What if they're watching me right now? What if they have some sort of plan for me that I'm not even aware of?

I guess only time will tell the true nature of this organization and its intentions. But for now, I can't help but be on edge, constantly looking over my shoulder and wondering what's going to happen next.

On my drive back to ABQ, I listened to the short audiobook.

To my great surprise, it was unbelievably stupid.

The content seemed to lack any real substance or meaningful message.

The narration was also rather dull, failing to engage my interest.

I found myself constantly zoning out and losing track of what was being said.

It was a real disappointment, especially considering the time and effort I had put into choosing it.

I had hoped for an interesting and thought-provoking listen, but instead, I was left with a feeling of frustration and waste of time.

Perhaps I should have done more research before selecting this audiobook.

Next time, I will be more careful to ensure that I choose something that is worth my while.

Overall, this experience has taught me the importance of being discerning when it comes to choosing what to listen to or read.

Rewrite of "Quitters, Inc. by Stephen King"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5*)

Even though the title and the cover of "Quitters, Inc." by Stephen King were quite revealing, initially, I didn't specifically associate it with cigarettes or the act of quitting them. As I delved into this very short story, I found it best to approach it with as little preconceived knowledge as possible and simply let myself be immersed in its narrative. I must say that the whole concept presented in the story is really cool. The Audible Audiobook version was also very enjoyable. I understand that the narrator might be a polarizing figure for some, but for me, his style matched the story extremely well. If you are in search of a short yet brilliant story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, look no further. Mr. King has once again delivered a masterpiece that will surely satisfy your literary cravings.

Overview: The story unfolded at a rather brisk pace, even for a short story. The concept of quitting has never seemed both more arduous and more straightforward than it does in this narrative.

Thoughts: I truly adored the premise of this short story. It pits the love one has for the people in their life against the personal demons or addictions that they desperately wish to avoid but constantly find themselves drawn back to. I believe that everyone could potentially gain something from a company like the one described. However, those prices are indeed exorbitant. It's a highly entertaining short story, and the ending, where the main character's love for his family proves stronger than the influence of the person who initially got him into the program, is quite fascinating. It's definitely one of the better short stories I've read by Stephen King. Although "Battleground" was also excellent! I would rate this story 3 out of 5 stars.

Giving up smoking is an extremely challenging task, often requiring drastic actions. Stephen King's horror story about it might seem very creepy, but don't we all have our own terrifying tales when it comes to quitting smoking, especially those of us who have actually tried?

I was set to be part of a boat crew sailing around the world, and the skipper strictly prohibited smoking on board. So, I had to give up my 2½ pack-a-day habit. It didn't take long for my experience to turn into a real horror story, but not for me! My poor husband, now ex, really suffered.

First, I got a carton of 200 Marlboro and placed it in my bedside table, not wanting to be in a panic and rush out to buy cigarettes. Then, I got a week's supply of nicotine chewing gum and had my last cigarette. When I wasn't chewing, I was eating. And when I wasn't doing either, I was throwing tantrums, and I had a really big one with my ex. This led to me throwing a flagon of cheap red wine at his head. Fortunately, it missed and smashed against the newly-painted white wall, even splashing onto the 9½' high ceiling.

A couple of days later, we were getting ready for bed early. I don't remember how I got my husband to go downstairs, but he was wearing just a vest and boxers, and it was pouring rain. I had a big carving knife with me, forced him outside, put the chain on the door, and threatened him with the knife through it.

This behavior was completely out of character for me. I don't usually lose my temper often, and when I do, it's over in a few minutes. Mostly, if I'm really annoyed, I go quiet, get upset, and don't want to deal with the person. But this was the result of nicotine withdrawal.

A couple of minutes later, I let him back in, mainly because Jehovah's Witnesses came, and when I saw them through the chain and had calmed down anyway, I didn't want to have to explain to them. I was really sorry and was scared of the next outburst, but it never came.

After a week on the chewing gum, I was too cheap to buy another pack. For the first year, I also gave up smoking weed as I didn't want anything to do with smoking. After that, I went back to weed but never had another cigarette, although the temptation was there. For about 9 years, I considered myself an ex-smoker, and after that, a non-smoker.

When I got on board the boat, I found that all the other three crew members smoked! But they didn't smoke on board, so that was okay. However, I did eat a lot and put on a significant amount of weight.

Do you remember your first cigarette? I was 16 and stole one from my mother to smoke in her bathroom when she was out. It made me dizzy and nauseous, and I had to lie on the floor for a long time to recover. But I persevered because I was stupid. Eventually, I would go to the pub at lunchtime with my pack of 10 cigarettes and my friends from school, with my skirt rolled up over my house girdle, so it was very short, and lipstick on. I thought I was the very epitome of cool!

I grew up in an Orthodox Jewish home in a tiny village of 40 people, with the last bus at 8.30 pm, and went to a very academic girls' school. Can you blame me for wanting to rebel and be cool? At 16, I just had to assert myself. But really, I should have stuck to candy cigarettes.

I truly enjoyed this short story.

The audiobook is truly remarkable as it vividly brings the setting to life, especially regarding the era in which the story takes place.

Just imagine if people were to go to such extreme lengths to get rid of something other than just smoking. That single thought alone has the power to make this short story come alive in our minds.

While I must say that I did not feel spooked by the events that occurred, and I rarely am, I did appreciate how far off the beaten path King was willing to venture.

I firmly believe that it is the audio production that elevates this short story to a 5-star level.

It adds an extra dimension to the narrative, making it more engaging and immersive for the listener.

The combination of the well-written story and the excellent audio production makes for a truly captivating experience.

I would highly recommend this short story, especially in its audiobook format, to anyone who enjoys a good read or listen.

The story really made my blood freeze.

It was a short story that had an incredibly chilling effect.

From the very beginning, it drew me in with its eerie atmosphere and the way it was written.

The details were so vivid that I could almost feel the coldness seeping into my bones as I read.

Each sentence seemed to build on the previous one, creating a sense of growing dread and anticipation.

The plot was full of unexpected twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

By the time I reached the end, I was left with a feeling of shock and disbelief.

It was truly a remarkable piece of work that had a profound impact on me.

I will definitely be thinking about this story for a long time to come.

Dick Morrison is constantly struggling with multiple self-destructive addictions. Compulsive smoking and rapid eating haunt him every single second of his life. He has a strong desire to quit these addictions but simply can't resist the urges that constantly pull at him.

However, everything changes when he unexpectedly stumbles upon his old addict friend. To his surprise, this friend seems to have completely cleaned himself up and is now addiction-free. His friend then offers him a membership to an organization known as Quitters Inc. This organization claims to have an astonishing 98% success rate in curing any addiction.

But there's a catch. These guys at Quitters Inc. won't just assist you in quitting your addictions in a normal way. Instead, they will use any means necessary to scare the addictions out of you, no matter how long it takes.

This is my favorite short story from King's Night Shift. It has just the perfect blend of creepiness, funniness, and weirdness. Moreover, it has one of the more satisfying endings compared to most of the other short stories in the collection. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and leaves you with a sense of fulfillment after reading.

This extreme ultimatum story by SK truly makes me think of Kurt Vonnegut’s 2BR02B. It poses a profound question: just how deep of a sacrifice are we willing to let our loved ones endure in order to achieve what we desire?

Will we always be burdened with guilt if they willingly make that sacrifice?

Getting healthy, quitting smoking, and finding a better job are all aspects that rely on self-control. We have the power to choose the kind of person we want to be in life.

However, if it comes to threatening or subjecting our family to torture or even murder to get what we want, then regardless of whether we feel guilty or not, we are truly despicable.

We should always strive to achieve our goals through ethical and moral means, without causing harm to those we love.

After all, the love and well-being of our family should always take precedence over our own selfish desires.

We need to find a balance and make choices that are both beneficial to ourselves and respectful of the rights and feelings of others.

Only then can we truly claim to be decent human beings.

I'm sorry, but this was just dumb pulpy art. It was at a level of asininity that made me just laugh out loud.

I'm glad I read it because Stephen King is still a great writer. However, I did not have any connection or feel any vibes with this one at all. In fact, it was almost even more absurd than The Lawnmower Man. It was ridiculous and hollow. What the hell, Stephen?

Maybe King was trying something new or different with this piece, but it just didn't work for me. The story seemed to lack depth and substance, and the characters were not very well-developed.

Despite my disappointment with this particular work, I still have a great deal of respect for Stephen King as a writer. He has written many other amazing books that have captivated readers around the world. I will continue to read his work in the hopes that he will return to the form that made him so famous in the first place.
