\\"I'm a little teapot short and stout, here is my handle, here is my spout, when I get all steamed up, then I shout, just tip me over and pour me out.\\" Just an innocent little song? Not in this story!

STORM OF THE CENTURY commences with an indescribably violent death, and the man accountable has not a single care in the world.....save one.

\\"Give me what I want and I will go away.\\"

The composed Town Constable of Maine's Little Tall Island, Mike Anderson, is gearing up for the Big One. Half the town is in his store, emptying the shelves, when the news of a brutal murder reaches him....and the sinister stranger, well....he's still at the scene......waiting.

Now, everyone knows that the island has witnessed no murders since Dolores Claiborne disposed of her repulsive husband (never proven) years ago. So, shock and fear have spread like wildfire.

So......even worse than the approaching STORM with its hurricane-force winds and arctic quantities of snow, the citizens are right to be cautious because something else is on its way to cause mayhem....something they've never seen before.

How on earth did I ever overlook this one?? King hails it as one of his most terrifying stories written for the screen, and I wholeheartedly concur....oh what HE wants is so deeply disturbing....and why choose this little town....bc bc bc....\\"Island folks know how to keep a secret.\\"

STORM OF THE CENTURY has now ascended into my top 10 of 64 King stories read. Even though, this time, (for me) the screenplay format did somewhat disrupt the overall fear factor. (and I do have a penchant for screenplays) As for the movie, it's lengthy, but OMGOSH don't miss it! The menacing Andre Linoge, played by Colm Feore, is truly a sight to behold.

\\"Born in sin, come on in.\\" hehehe

4+ Stars for the screenplay....5 Stars for the atmospheric creepy-scary horror of a story that had me completely engrossed!

(The Shining's \\"Danny Torrance\\" and \\"Dolores Claiborne\\" are mentioned herein, as well as key words \\"Madder\\"....\\"Regulators\\"....and \\"Atlantis\\"....and I've most likely missed more.)

I absolutely loved it!

We are directly plunged into the action and what is amiss on this Little Tall Island. At the beginning, I was afraid that the layout and organization of the text in film script mode would bother me, but in the end, I adored it and it gives a frenzied pace to the reading that is crazy.

The progression is extremely well put together and there is not a single moment when we are bored, being transported from left to right across the island and through the different inhabitants of the island.

Lénoge is vicious, perverse, manipulative, and so impressive. I loved his character.

It was really an excellent read that left me breathless from beginning to end. I had the impression of being the director of the film of this story.

Overall, this book offers a unique and thrilling reading experience that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. The combination of an exciting plot, well-developed characters, and a fast-paced narrative makes it a must-read for fans of mystery and thriller genres.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating and unforgettable story that will keep them on the edge of their seat.

This is the third time I have read "The Storm of the Century" (for the first time in English), and it is always a pleasure!

The fact that the book is actually a movie script makes it extremely graphic. It allows you to vividly imagine the scenes and events as if you were watching a movie unfold in your mind. This gives you a unique and different experience that you should definitely have at least once.

The horror in this book is a bit less intense than in some of King's other works. This is probably because the movie was targeted at the general public. However, don't let that fool you. The book is still thrilling and full of suspense. It keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Overall, "The Storm of the Century" is a great read. Whether you are a fan of Stephen King or just looking for a good thriller, this book is definitely worth checking out.

How could I have missed this little treasure?

I had no idea it even existed until I chanced upon it while searching for what to read next. I was in need of something dark and eerie, and I was overjoyed when I stumbled upon this.

I have a fondness for island reads as they have the potential for a creepy atmosphere and a classic whodunit in a setting that enhances the mood. And this little gem from the Master truly hits the mark on both counts.

An island, the impending mother of all storms, a stranger, and brutal deaths - we have everything one could hope for. The scenes are expertly set up. There is no excessive gore, yet it terrifies just the same. What is happening to the people of this island?

It's impossible to put down from the very first word to the last. It's so refreshing to read something that terrifies without relying on cheap jump scares or blood and gore. This is where the Masters shine the brightest. They know how to weave words, create suspense, and build intensity page by page. And King is无疑 one of the very best.

Enjoy!

“Life on the islands is different. When we need to, we form a team. And we know how to keep a secret when necessary. We have kept many in 1989. And the people on the island still keep them.”

It is not really a true novel but just the script of the homonymous TV miniseries. After the first few pages, you get used to the strange form of writing and don't think about it anymore (it also becomes easier to reconstruct the scenes and the narrative flow).

Unfortunately, however, the story is not original at all (and who would have ever expected it from Stephen King?): in a standardized community (where everyone hides more or less serious secrets) and isolated from the bad weather, a demon arrives to claim "something" in exchange for the salvation of the entire community. The plot of "The Storm of the Century" is all here... and, moreover, there is no happy ending!

It should be noted that the setting of the novel is the same as that of Dolores Claiborne (in a couple of passages, both she and the murder of her husband committed by her are also mentioned) and that, in some points, the evil Linoge reminded me very much of Randall Flagg from the "Dark Tower" saga and other King novels.

\\"Those born in luxury will turn to dust.
Let those born in sin come to me.\\"

In a few more words:
http://knigoqdec.blogspot.bg/2016/09/...

This short but profound statement seems to carry a message about the transient nature of worldly wealth and the acceptance of those who may have made mistakes or sinned. It implies that regardless of one's birth circumstances, there is a place or a path towards a certain destination, perhaps a place of redemption or spiritual connection. The reference to turning to dust emphasizes the impermanence of material possessions and the importance of looking beyond them. The invitation for those born in sin to come forward suggests a sense of forgiveness and a willingness to embrace all, regardless of their past. It makes one wonder about the deeper meaning and significance behind these words and how they might apply to our own lives and the choices we make.

Wow... definitivamente King lo escribió que final, muy bueeeeeeno!

It is truly amazing how King crafted that ending. It was extremely good!

The way he brought the story to a close was masterful.

Every detail seemed to fit perfectly, creating a sense of satisfaction and wonder.

One could not help but be impressed by his writing skills.

The final scene was vivid and engaging, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.

It was as if King had painted a beautiful picture with his words, and the reader was able to step right into it.

Overall, the ending was a testament to King's talent as a writer and his ability to captivate an audience.

It is no wonder that he is considered one of the greatest authors of our time.

I don't believe that this story introduces a great many novel concepts to the well-trodden "small town is corrupted by an evil presence" theme that King had already delved into in works such as 'Salem's Lot, The Mist, IT, Needful Things, and so on.

However, despite this, I still managed to find Storm of the Century to be an entirely pleasant read.

The story unfolds in a small town, much like those in King's other works, and we see the familiar pattern of an encroaching evil that disrupts the lives of the townspeople.

While it may not break new ground in terms of the overall concept, King's masterful storytelling and ability to create vivid characters and a sense of palpable dread keep the reader engaged from beginning to end.

Even though we may have seen this type of story before, there is still something about King's writing that makes it worth experiencing again.

So, while Storm of the Century may not be a revolutionary addition to the genre, it is still a solid and enjoyable read that fans of King's work are sure to appreciate.

**"A Non-Ordinary King Novel"**

In 1989, a century storm threatens the coast of Maine and the residents of Little Tall Island take precautions. Some flee to the mainland, while others stay and prepare the protective measures. And precisely now, a brutal murder occurs on the island. The culprit is caught (or rather allows himself to be caught), but a cell does not prevent Andre Linoge from bringing further misfortune upon the islanders. And soon they will realize that they are not dealing with an ordinary murderer. But what does Linoge want?

"Storm of the Century" is not an ordinary King novel, although the author's style can be clearly read here as well. King wrote the story exclusively for a TV film (ABC), as he reports in the extremely interesting and humor-filled preface. So this is an original screenplay from 1999 that is only available used. The同名 TV miniseries was produced in the same year.
Once one has gotten used to the style, the story reads very smoothly. With many characters and King's typical weakness for smaller digressions here and there, one should, however, be able to cope. It is also not an action-packed, quickly told story. King takes his time, slowly building the ominous, swelling atmosphere. I personally like this, and in this case, the mental movie benefits even more from it, as it is additionally supported by the directorial instructions. Of course, there are also brutal and scary moments, but the focus here is rather on the social conflicts within the community. King has a talent for this, as many of his novels (such as "In a Small Town" and "The Arena") already prove.
And the community of Little Tall is also put to a severe test. The supposedly incarcerated murderer Linoge leads the murderous game, directing the islanders - his hostages - like puppets, in order to then deliver the final, devastating blow. What he does, what he demands, and why - one has to read for oneself. For my part, I very much enjoyed the reading, even though there were a few inconsistencies and also predictabilities in some places. The gloomy, ominous mood, the psychological power games, the moral questions - all of this King conveys intensively and authentically.
**Conclusion**
A very good and readable story that above all guarantees an intense mental movie and also strongly encourages reflection. Despite the small inconsistencies, "Storm of the Century" entertains excellently and provides some cozy goosebump moments, especially on dark and cold autumn evenings on the couch.

A pesar de ser un guión, algo que no acostumbro leer y menos de manos de King, me resultó una lectura muy llevadera.

The pace of the book is very fast, and the action doesn't take long to present. When this great storm is predicted, the preparations begin on the island, which is something normal. The strange thing comes when an unknown man kills an old woman in cold blood.

King has a unique way of captivating the reader from the very beginning. The story unfolds with a sense of urgency and mystery. The description of the storm and the preparations on the island creates a vivid backdrop for the events that are about to unfold.

The sudden appearance of the unknown killer adds an element of horror and suspense. Who is this man? Why did he kill the old woman? These questions keep the reader engaged and eager to find out what will happen next.

Overall, despite not being a typical reader of screenplays, I found this one by King to be a thrilling and enjoyable read. His talent for creating engaging stories shines through, even in this different format.
