It really caught my attention and left a lasting impression. The excitement and enthusiasm it brought were palpable.

This image added an extra element of fun and visual appeal. It seemed to bring the whole experience to life.

McCammon's alien predator truly has a terrible attitude.

The author has masterfully presented us with the embodiment of evil in the form of a monstrous creature from outer space.

Not only that, but he also populates his novel with a diverse cast of colorful and multi-dimensional characters.

The end result is a novel that is filled to the brim with scenes of pure horror.

The jumpscares and shocks come one after another in rapid succession, making this an outstanding science fiction-horror novel.

It serves as an excellent example of successfully crossing two genres and creating a literary gem.

Readers will be on the edge of their seats from start to finish, unable to put this thrilling and terrifying novel down.

The combination of the otherworldly alien and the well-developed characters adds depth and complexity to the story, making it a must-read for fans of both science fiction and horror.

McCammon has once again proven himself to be a master storyteller with this captivating and spine-chilling novel.

This book was truly and absolutely fantastic. It encompassed everything that alien horror should be. The way the novel was written was of such a high caliber that the vivid pictures it painted in my mind were simply dazzling.

One could almost feel as if they were right there in the midst of the alien horror, experiencing every spine-chilling moment.

But perhaps the most important aspect of this book was that it was honest god-damn fun. It didn't just rely on scares and thrills; it also had a sense of entertainment and enjoyment that made it a truly captivating read from start to finish.

Whether you're a die-hard fan of alien horror or just looking for a great book to pass the time, this one is definitely worth checking out.

McCammon is truly a master of the craft.

This remarkable book encompasses a wide range of elements. There is intense gang-warfare that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The coming-of-age plot adds a layer of depth and emotional resonance, allowing the reader to connect with the characters on a personal level.

But that's not all. The story also features aliens, and not just any aliens - NASTY aliens! These extraterrestrial beings bring an element of horror and excitement that takes the narrative to a whole new level.

The writing in this book is simply superb. McCammon's ability to create vivid and engaging scenes, develop complex characters, and build a suspenseful atmosphere is truly remarkable. It's no wonder that this is one of the few 5-star reviews I ever give.

This book is a must-read for anyone who loves a good story that combines action, adventure, and a touch of the supernatural.

A spaceship plummets from the sky near the desolate and dying town of Inferno, TX. Moments later, a far larger and more menacing spaceship follows suit, leaving no one safe.

I have been in a reading slump recently. I have picked up numerous books but haven't made much progress. I simply haven't had the inclination to read, which is quite unlike me. However, I have liked McCammon's books in the past, and I thought this one might assist me in getting out of the slump. And as a pulp novel, it does its job. The story is engaging enough, although the characters aren't particularly likable. You want to cheer for them, but they're just not very nice. I suppose it's kind of like a subpar Stephen King novel: there's far too much profanity and violence, yet it's interesting enough to keep you going. 2.5 stars.

This movie is very similar to Swan Song in many aspects. However, what sets it apart is the addition of aliens. I consider myself to be a truly huge McCammon fan. I have an intense love for books like Swan Song, They Thirst, and Wolf’s Hour. In my eyes, all three of those books deserve a solid 5-star rating. However, this particular one is not on the same level for me.

The story centers around a desert town that is on the verge of dying. When a fugitive alien crash lands in the area, a unique alien hunter known as Stinger gives chase. The fugitive takes possession of the body of a little girl in an effort to seek refuge on Earth. But Stinger has no qualms about making his presence known on this planet, which he believes his people can conquer with ease. Everywhere he goes, he causes chaos and destruction. He cannot be deterred or swayed.

There are a plethora of characters in this book, each with their own back stories and lives. Unfortunately, these details can be rather distracting and seem unnecessary. In fact, there are probably far too many of them. Additionally, this book is undoubtedly too long. The novel closely resembles many Terminator-type stories where an alien is on the run from another alien. To be honest, it can be a bit boring due to the excessive (way too much) exposition. It almost feels as if the author was simply writing words to meet an arbitrary wordcount. Still, it's not a terrible book. It's just okay.

One sentence review:
This is a masterfully told story that answers the age-old question of who would win in a fight between a dolphin and a scorpion.

The story begins by setting the stage, introducing the two unlikely combatants. The dolphin, known for its grace and intelligence in the water, and the scorpion, a fearsome land creature with a deadly sting.

As the fight commences, the reader is on the edge of their seat, wondering which one will come out victorious. The author describes the actions and strategies of both the dolphin and the scorpion in vivid detail, making it easy to picture the battle in one's mind.

Will the dolphin's agility and strength in the water give it the upper hand? Or will the scorpion's venomous sting prove to be too much for the dolphin? The story keeps the reader guessing until the very end, when the final outcome is revealed.

In conclusion, this is a captivating and engaging story that not only answers an interesting question but also provides an exciting adventure for the reader.

What an action-packed story! This one truly had it all! There were aliens, rival street gangs, possessions, and destruction! The fate of the town of Inferno, Texas hung in the balance. Would it survive? And what about Earth?

I have been a huge fan of Robert McCammon for just a few years now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed his books: Swan Song, Mine, Gone South, Boy’s Life, and The Five. This latest one has now risen to the top 3! His writing style is similar to that of Stephen King. You get to know the characters and their world in great detail, and then they are thrust into wild, chaotic adventures. It's truly captivating.

I'm shocked that there has not been a movie based on this book already. It seems like a no-brainer. The story has all the elements that would make a great film. I think I need to do some research and find out if there are any plans in the works. If not, someone really should consider bringing this exciting story to the big screen.

I have a rather complex view of this book. Considering that it was published almost thirty years ago, I believe it should be commended for likely being fresh and original at that time. Some elements that seem clichéd nowadays, such as the tough Mexican kid who adores his grandmother, were probably remarkably inclusive in the 1980s. Moreover, "Stinger" predates Stephen King's "Under the Dome" by approximately twenty years, although it lacks the latter book's character development and emotional depth.

However, I also found the book's third-person omniscient narrative voice extremely frustrating. It made it very challenging to determine whose thoughts I was reading. Similarly, the fact that there were no indications in the book when a scene's setting had changed often left me floundering as I struggled to understand what was happening.

In conclusion, I'm rounding up to four stars, but three and a half is closer to my actual assessment. This book has its merits, especially considering its age, but it also has some significant flaws that affected my reading experience.
