The basic premise of this story is truly captivating. An alien arrives on earth and takes over the body of a little girl.随后, another alien shows up with the intention of bringing back the first alien, who we later discover is an escaped "prisoner".

The real power within this book lies entirely in the characters. McCammon has crafted such strong and vivid characters that we simply can't help but get completely wrapped up in the story. His entire book could have been centered around the struggle between the two gangs, or the complex relationship between Cody and Curt (the son and his drunk dad), or perhaps just about the Hammond family. Heck, even the rich older lady could have been the focus of a decent story on her own. But in the end, what it all comes down to is that he has created a book filled to the brim with wonderful and engaging characters. In this book, the only REAL bad guy is Stinger. Even the so-called bad guys in the town are not truly that bad, with the exception of one person, and he is removed from the equation almost as soon as we meet him.

It's books like this that made me fall head over heels in love with reading. They have the ability to transport us to another world, filled with unique characters and exciting adventures, and make us forget about the real world for a while. This book is truly a gem and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good story.
