McCammon remains a home run author for me.

In this book, Mary Terror truly gives Annie Wilkes a run for the money when it comes to the most well-developed homicidal psychopaths in a novel. There are chapters in this book that are so filled with insanity and dread that I would look over at my wife, who was listening with me in the car, and just wait in anticipation to see if something crazy was going to happen.

At first, I wasn't sure about Laura as a character, but I ended up loving her arc. And finally, the prose is top tier, as McCammon always delivers.

This book is definitely recommended for horror fans and McCammon enthusiasts alike. It offers a thrilling and engaging read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The vivid descriptions and well-developed characters make it a standout in the horror genre. Whether you're a long-time fan of McCammon or new to his work, this book is sure to satisfy.

Solid enough little horror. This concise description seems to hint at a small but impactful horror experience. It might refer to a short story, a horror movie, or perhaps a particular scene that left a lasting impression. The term "solid enough" implies that whatever this horror is, it has a certain substance or quality to it. It's not just a fleeting scare but something that lingers in the mind. The word "little" could suggest that it's not a grand or over-the-top horror, but rather something more intimate or contained. It might focus on a single element or idea that is developed in a way that is both effective and disturbing. Overall, "Solid enough little horror" is a tantalizing phrase that makes one curious to explore the details and discover exactly what kind of horror lies within.

Mary Terrell is a crazy hippie who was once part of a terrorist band. Currently, she works at a Burger King. However, behind that seemingly normal life, she has been unable to leave her past behind and has remained faithful to her convictions, being willing to do anything to follow those ideals distorted by years of hallucinogens. The woman is completely deranged, and the consequences of her psychopathy will be lived by a successful journalist named Laura Clayrborne, just a few days after giving birth to her son David, a Thursday child with a long way to go.

From the beginning of the novel, we are shown that nothing is right with Mary Terrell. The book has a very violent start that surprises and boosts my level of interest in the story, and I must say that this remained the case throughout the entire book.

Despite lacking narrative complexity, as the author's style seemed very simple to me, the story was extremely interesting to me due to the twists it takes, and I'm not going to lie, because of Mary Terror. And it's that, when you think that nothing worse could happen, there goes Mary Terror in a fit of madness, giving very violent and interesting scenes.

The characters are well designed psychologically, managing to make me put myself in Laura's shoes on one hand, and on the other, make me feel trapped in the dizzying thoughts of Mary Terror.

It is a book full of suspense and anguishing scenes, which present situations with which it is very easy to be moved and connect with the characters, especially with Laura and everything she has to experience both before and after giving birth.

What I found truly chilling in this novel was the truth in some aspects. Out there, there are many wolves in sheep's clothing, and that is undeniable. It was impossible not to feel pity for the villain and her broken dreams. However, I would not like to come across Mary Terror at all.

Wow, I'm truly at a loss for words when it comes to this book. It was simply amazing. I've never had to put a book down within the first five pages due to being disturbed by its content, but that's exactly what happened with this one. I seriously contemplated whether or not to continue reading. After thirty minutes of deep thought, I picked it back up and couldn't put it down again.

I became so deeply involved with this book that I had to constantly remind myself to breathe and tell myself it was only a book. My heart was pounding out of my chest, and I was absolutely terrified for David.

This was my very first experience with Robert McCammon, and I must say, I think he's a genius with this book. Although he can be a bit wordy at times, he managed to keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire reading.

I believe part of the allure of this story is the fact that you know it could potentially happen. In today's world, with all the chaos and craziness in our society, this could easily be a story we see on CNN. That's precisely what makes it so terrifying.

I'll be completely honest. I was so enthralled with the story and what was going to happen next that I didn't care one bit about character depth, dialog, or any of that other stuff that usually comes up in a review. I just wanted to know what was going to occur next.

My advice is this: if you enjoy drama, suspense, and can handle the violence, then definitely read this book. I've already told numerous people about it and even loaned my copy out to a friend. That's how highly I recommend it.

I simply can't wait to read another book by Mr. McCammon.

What do a sixties era militant group, a lonely married woman with a brand new baby, a newborn baby boy, and a seriously crazy woman still longing to live in the sixties all have in common?

Well, they all find themselves intertwined in a deliciously huge and terrifying story crafted by one of my favorite authors, Robert R. McCammon.

This captivating tale delves deep into the realm of a mother's love and the complex web of familial dysfunction that intensifies with each passing page.

The narrative unfolds with such tension and excitement that it keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.

If you have a penchant for long thrillers told by a master storyteller, then this book is a must-try.

As you read, listen closely for the sound of a baby's cry. It's a sound that will haunt you long after you've turned the final page.

McCammon's ability to create a vivid and immersive world is truly remarkable, making this story a memorable and unforgettable experience.

Whewww... What a ride. It has been an absolute adventure. From the very beginning, it felt like we were on a journey filled with excitement and anticipation. The path ahead was unknown, but that only added to the thrill. There were moments of intense speed, as if we were flying through the air. The wind rushed past us, filling our senses with a sense of freedom. And then there were the curves and turns, which made our hearts race. Each one was a new challenge, a test of our courage and skill. But through it all, we held on tight and enjoyed every single moment. It was a ride that we will never forget, a memory that will stay with us forever.

What a thrilling ride it has been!

This is undoubtedly the best book I have read thus far this year. It is one of those books that is written with such finesse that it doesn't even seem like you are reading; instead, it plays out like a vivid film in your mind.

I became so deeply and intensely involved in this story. Mary was truly terrifying, and my heart went out to Laura. Every day at work, I could hardly wait to rush home and discover what would happen next. This is precisely the kind of feeling you hope to experience when reading a book - to be completely absorbed.

From the very first chapter, it is a non-stop, intense, and gripping story that never lets up.

I just wish there had been a slightly longer ending or summary. Mainly because I had become so emotionally attached to the characters that I simply didn't want it to end.

This is my first time reading McCammon, and I am eager to read more of his works. However, the paperbacks are so prohibitively expensive!

I absolutely LOVED it. It deserves a full 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

READ IT!!

It has the immediate and driving pace that is similar to that of "No Exit" or "Intensity". The way the plot unfolds and the tension builds is simply captivating.

After reading this, it has quickly jumped to my top ten thrillers. It's a must-read for all thriller enthusiasts out there. You won't be disappointed!

After reading his masterpiece, Swan Song, I've become an ardent admirer of Robert McCammon. Recently, I've been delving into a few of his books. His stories never fail to astonish me. Mine was on my radar for a considerable period. After completing this book last night, I must assert that it has been an astonishing and thrilling journey! The book is extremely intense with excellent pacing.

The first chapter made me so nervous that I almost abandoned this book. It was the most disturbing book opener I've ever read. The cardboard box filled with burned and mutilated dolls gave me nightmares. The antagonist, Mary Terror, is a former left-wing extremist and a force to be reckoned with - a monster hidden within a woman's body. She is not one to be trifled with; she has no hesitation in putting a bullet right between your eyes without any remorse. This is my first book featuring both a female protagonist and antagonist, each pushing the other to their utmost limits. Without a doubt, Mary Terror stands out as the most mentally deranged character I've encountered in literature.

The story centers around the kidnapping of an infant and the unwavering pursuit of a mother who refuses to give up and is determined to retrieve her child despite the overwhelming odds. Some moments carry a powerful emotional impact, especially those that explore the themes of maternal love. Laura, the mother, longs for her stolen child, her dreams consumed by the hope of a reunion. The pacing and the cross-country chase are outstanding and keep you on the edge of your seat.

"Laura released her breath and turned away with her son in her arms. Both of Thursday's children had far to go."

Robert McCammon is an underappreciated gem and a master storyteller. His books merit greater recognition.

4.4:star:

The first half of this work was truly great. It managed to engage the reader right from the start and build up an interesting story and atmosphere. The second half was also quite good, maintaining a certain level of quality and keeping the reader's attention.

However, around the 2/3 mark, it did start to become a little repetitive. Some of the same ideas and plot elements were being presented in a somewhat similar way, which made it feel a bit tiresome at times. Additionally, there was a desire for some resolution of things early in the book. Certain storylines and conflicts were left hanging for a while, and it would have been nice to see some progress or conclusion earlier on.

Overall, though, this is a very good piece of work. Despite its few flaws, it has many strengths that make it an enjoyable read. The characters are well-developed, the writing is engaging, and the overall concept is interesting. It has the potential to be even better with a bit of refinement and improvement in the areas that were identified.
