This is an interesting read, and I believe it is well-structured.

It would be quite convenient to refer to if I were planning a trip.

Nevertheless, I have two major criticisms of this book.

Firstly, it fails to provide budget-friendly recommendations.

Secondly, it only lists already glamorized areas.

For instance, the places listed for the USA mainly focus on costs.

So, it is not the ideal source to discover hidden gems.

Perhaps the author could consider including more budget options and explore less-known places in future editions.

This would make the book more useful and appealing to a wider range of readers.

Overall, while the book has its merits, these two drawbacks somewhat limit its value.

It would be great to see improvements in these aspects to enhance its practicality.

We should all have a list of 1000 places to see before we die. Patricia was the only one who actually wrote her list and published it.

For all the people complaining here at goodreads, you would think the book was a waste of time, but it isn’t. It gave me a few ideas and a few things I agreed on. For example, staying in the Royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea - I agree. And the Aitutaki lagoon - I strongly agree. However, there were also some glaring omissions. Corsica didn’t rate a mention, and I disagree with that. There were also places I would have never included, like Tivoli gardens - I disagree.

I actually found this quite sad to read during the Covid-19 induced great Australian travel ban of 2020. Knowing that I might never get out of my country ever again. But I was pleased to see Saudi Arabia and The Yemen included in her list, just as they would be in mine.

This book is just supposed to be a bit of fun. It’s fun ticking off where you have been and fun thinking about where you’d like to go next. Don’t take it too seriously and you too can have fun within its pages. You know what, I’m gonna make a list of my own and pray I get to travel again one day soon.

I must say I am pretty disappointed in this book.

I had high hopes of uncovering a plethora of new and exciting places that I had never heard of before. However, to my dismay, the book seemed to focus predominantly on hotels, restaurants, and golf.

I have no interest in golfing whatsoever. It's not something that I consider as a worthy sight to see.

I was really looking forward to reading about unique destinations, hidden gems, and cultural experiences. But unfortunately, this book failed to deliver on that front.

It felt like a missed opportunity to showcase the true beauty and diversity of the world.

I expected more from this book and was left feeling let down.

Maybe there are other books out there that can fulfill my desire for exploration and discovery.

Until then, I will continue my search for a more engaging and informative travel guide.

This is quite an extraordinary book.

It delves into a detailed and summary description, providing useful information about each of the 1,000 places. It serves as a source of inspiration, allowing readers to dream and then embark on adventures to explore these places. By doing so, the written words are transformed into reality and ultimately become cherished memories.

I have a profound love for this book! It has opened up a world of possibilities and激发了 my desire to explore. I hope that in the years to come, I can continue to immerse myself in this book and discover the wonders of these places. Each page holds the promise of a new adventure, waiting to be unearthed.

I haven't read this book, but it's really an interesting thought to imagine if the continuation of this was called '1000 Places to See After You Die'.

What kind of places would be included in such a book? Would they be celestial landscapes, otherworldly dimensions, or perhaps places that exist only in the realm of the imagination?

It makes one wonder about the possibilities that lie beyond our current understanding of life and death. Maybe there are beautiful and mysterious places waiting for us after we pass away, just as there are countless wonderful places here on Earth.

Such a title could spark our curiosity and make us think about the unknown. It might even inspire us to live our lives to the fullest, knowing that there could be more adventures and experiences waiting for us in the afterlife.

Although we may never know for sure what lies beyond death, imagining such a book gives us a chance to dream and explore the possibilities.

The spirit of this book is vividly exemplified by a remarkable quotation from Mark Twain (Page xv): "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the tide winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Consequently, the author presents a comprehensive listing of places across the globe that are truly worth uncovering. This volume serves as a companion piece to another of her works, in which she delved into 1,000 places to visit within the United States.

The world is neatly divided into eight regions for the purpose of organizing the discussion: Europe; Africa; the Middle East; Asia; Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands; the United States and Canada; Latin America; and the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Bermuda.

In this concise review, it is simply impossible to illustrate each region in great depth. Perhaps some samples from a few of the regions can give a taste. Needless to say, any selection of this kind is likely to spark discussion - Why were certain places omitted? Why were others included? But that is precisely part of the charm and enjoyment of a book like this!

Europe offers a plethora of well-known attractions such as Windsor Castle, Winchester Cathedral, London, the Salzburg Festival, Vienna, Paris, Versailles, the Brandenburg Gate, and the Sistine Chapel. However, there are also other hidden treasures like Bellagio, Rhodes, Ile de Re, Kinsale, and Ludlow.

Africa boasts wonders like the Great Pyramids, Abu Simbel, Jack's Camp in the Kalahari Desert, and the Cape Winelands.

The United States and Canada have their own allures, including the Kenai Peninsula, Monterey Peninsula, Telluride, South Beach, the Art Institute of Chicago (one of my personal favorite art museums), the Art Gallery of Ontario, Nimmo Bay Resort, Polar Bear Safari, and more.

This book is truly a delight to browse through. Simply choose a page at random and let your imagination run wild, envisioning a trip to that particular place. It's all great fun!

None of us know when the sands of our hourglass will run dry.

It would truly be a remarkable thing if we had the luxury of time to visit all 1,000 places as detailed within this extensive coffee table edition.

So, even if you are unable to visit a tenth of them, simply holding this book in your hands offers a wonderful alternative.

The back of the book proclaims it as “the photographic journey of a lifetime.” And indeed, it is much more than that. Packed with 1,000 destinations from around the globe, it is a virtual invitation for you to explore.

Patricia Schultz has crafted a book that will stand the test of time. She has rightfully been lauded as one of the twenty-five most influential women in travel, and this is evident on every page.

She has carefully selected sites from every nook and cranny of the world, ranging from the well-known to the more obscure. It serves as a genuine geography lesson, complete with a “must do” notation.

The “must do” note provides compelling reasons why each site must be witnessed, along with highlighting the main attractions there.

The in-depth photos vividly illustrate the significance of these places and why they are a must-see. Some of the key areas chosen by Schultz include: the majestic Blue Mountains of New South Wales in Australia, the enchanting Palace of Winds in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, the historic Wawel Hill in Krakow, Poland, the lush Pico Bonito National Park in Honduras, and the beautiful Bussaco Forest in Beiras, Portugal.

To own this book is to possess a literal corner of the world. Embark on a journey into this magical world, and perhaps one day, you will have the opportunity to visit these places in person.

Great, but not all of it do I agree with.

There are certain aspects that I have my own opinions on.

Nevertheless, if you are in search of a combination of both well-known and lesser-known off the beaten path sites, this is indeed a great reference.

It can provide you with a wealth of information and inspiration for your travels or explorations.

You may discover places that you otherwise would not have known about, adding a touch of uniqueness and adventure to your experiences.

So, while it may not be perfect in every sense, it still holds significant value for those seeking to venture beyond the ordinary and explore the hidden gems out there.

Overall, it is a useful resource that can enhance your journey and help you create memories that will last a lifetime.

This is one of those remarkable books that can be utilized in multiple ways.

I've heard tales of people engaging in competitions to determine which of their friends can visit a greater number of the places listed within this book.

For me personally, I'm not entirely certain that this is a book I would rely on to construct my "bucket list." After all, I have a penchant for seeking out-of-the-way, more unique locations that are known only to the locals.

One of my most cherished memories in Europe was going to purchase vegetables in a charming little town in Holland with a local. That experience would never find its way into a typical tour guide book, but I adored seeing the town, interacting with the locals, and savoring a dinner featuring the fresh vegetables we bought that very afternoon.

This is an updated edition, with the first one having been published in 2003. At that time, I had only been to five of the places in the initial book. Since then, I've had the opportunity to visit 30 places. (Counting all of Hong Kong, Los Angeles, etc. as a single place.)

For me, I believe this book would serve best as a springboard for the places I might desire to see. I understand that when compiling a list of only 1000 places, many significant sights are bound to be overlooked. However, I could envision different places that I would have included in this volume, both in the USA and abroad. (I was on the verge of stating that Yad Vashem in Jerusalem is one such place, but upon looking it up, I discovered it received a one-sentence mention. So, it was indeed mentioned, yet it's one of the most memorable places I've ever visited, and I would have given it more than just a passing mention.)

Nevertheless, that's the beauty of this book. It includes places that I might not have considered, omits places that I would have included, and offers a distinct "must-see" perspective of this world. After all, the world is as unique as the people who inhabit it, and everyone has their own ideas and opinions, including what should be considered the "must-see" places. It's truly enjoyable to flip through the pages and learn about diverse places from all over the world!

Way too Americentric for my liking.

More than half of these places are incredibly "blah", and they left out a bunch that I would much rather see. It seems as if the author has a very narrow perspective, focusing mainly on American destinations and ignoring many other wonderful places around the world.

Perhaps I'm just atypical, but I found the book frustrating. I was eager to explore new and exciting places through the book, but I was constantly disappointed. I found myself searching for places I want to visit so that I could learn more about them, only to not stumble across them. It felt like the author was not in tune with the interests and desires of the readers.

To top it off, a bunch of the suggestions are obvious. Do we really need an inclusion of the Louvre? DUHHhhhh...... It's a well-known and overhyped tourist destination. There are so many other hidden gems and lesser-known places that could have been recommended instead. The book really needs to be more diverse and offer more unique suggestions to truly engage the readers.

The book that makes your heart race for so long is so beautiful that the world seems to fade away.

As you turn the pages, you drool more and more. The more you read, the stronger the desire to set off.

Then you look away, and you plunge into reality and cry because either you don't have enough money or you don't have time, or both.

This book has the power to transport you to another world, a world full of adventure and possibility. But when you return to the real world, you are faced with the harsh reality of your limitations.

It makes you realize how much you long for something more, something beyond the ordinary. And yet, it also makes you appreciate the beauty and wonder that exists within the pages of a book.

Perhaps one day, you will be able to save enough money and take the time to embark on the journey that this book has inspired in you. Until then, you can continue to lose yourself in its pages and dream of the possibilities that lie ahead.

An inspiring travel book to read for those seeking travel inspiration.

The book's photos are truly excellent and awe-inspiring. They have the power to transport you to different corners of the world and make you feel as if you are right there.

For the places I had already visited, the book provided a wonderful trip down memory lane. It brought back vivid memories of my own travels and made me long to return.

For the many places I had not yet visited, the book inspired me to look further toward future adventures. It opened my eyes to new destinations and cultures that I had never considered before.

However, there are two downsides to the book. Firstly, the global coverage of the book is somewhat uneven. For example, there is very heavy coverage of the US compared to other countries. This may give readers a skewed perception of the world and limit their exposure to other interesting places.

Secondly, I noticed two historical errors in the captions. One was about a church being thousands of centuries old, which is clearly incorrect. There was another one as well. These errors may not seem significant, but they do undermine the credibility of the book.

Overall, despite its flaws, this travel book is still a great source of inspiration for anyone who loves to travel. It has the power to激发 your imagination and make you dream of your next adventure.
