This isn't a 'book that finishes' kind of book.

It's not the type of book that you can simply read from cover to cover in one sitting and be done with it.

Rather, it's designed to be consumed in little bites.

You can pick it up, read a short section, and then put it down, coming back to it later for another small taste.

It's like a delicious treat that you savor slowly, enjoying each little morsel.

And even after you've taken several bites, you're still biting, still finding new things to discover and enjoy within its pages.

It's the kind of book that keeps you engaged and coming back for more, no matter how many times you've dipped into it before.

I don't know why I ever thought that reading someone else's ideas about the 1000 best places in the world would be an enjoyable experience.

It's of course totally biased and unsatisfying. How can one person's opinion represent the true essence of so many diverse places?

Do people really enjoy visiting historic hotels this much? Unf*ckingbelievable. Maybe some do, but surely not everyone.

There are so many other factors to consider when it comes to determining the best places in the world. Personal preferences, cultural backgrounds, and individual interests all play a role.

I think it would be much more interesting to explore these places on my own and form my own opinions. That way, I can truly experience the beauty and uniqueness of each location.

Relying on someone else's list takes away the element of discovery and adventure.

I guess I'll just have to start planning my own travels and see where the road takes me.

A good reference for travelers is essential. It can provide valuable information and tips that can enhance their travel experience.

For example, a travel guidebook can offer details about different destinations, including their history, culture, and attractions. It can also suggest the best places to eat, stay, and shop.

Another useful reference is online travel reviews. These can give travelers an idea of what to expect from a particular hotel, restaurant, or activity. They can also learn from the experiences of others and avoid making the same mistakes.

In addition, travel blogs can be a great source of inspiration and practical advice. Many bloggers share their personal travel stories and offer tips on everything from packing light to saving money on flights.

Overall, having a good reference for travelers can make all the difference in planning and enjoying a successful trip.

Patricia Schultz curates the world in a truly remarkable way. When she first published the original "1,000 Places to See Before You Die", she not only birthed a new genre of travel books but also introduced a novel way of contemplating our experiences and interests.

The original book, which has sold over 3.5 million copies, appealed to our minds. Now, in the new deluxe edition, "1,000 Places to See Before You Die (Deluxe Edition): The World as You’ve Never Seen It Before" (from Artisan Books, an imprint of the original publisher Workman), Schultz has made a transition from the power of words to the allure of breathtaking images. This takes readers on a captivating visual journey, showcasing the very best that the world has to offer.

While maintaining the breadth of Schultz's vision and her journalistic authority, this deluxe edition has been completely reimagined for the photographic format and features entirely new material. Unlike the original, which included practical details like where to stay and dine, the new book focuses on immersing the reader in the stunning scenery. Patricia herself handpicked more than 1,000 color photos to convey the essence of visiting each location and shares the essential activities and must-visit sites for every destination.

The new images have the power to evoke a range of emotions in readers, including joy, curiosity, awe, passion, nostalgia, inspiration, and a sense of gratitude for living in a world filled with such beauty and wonder.

I borrowed this from the library as a reference.

My husband and I have made a significant decision. We decided to create a comprehensive list of all the places we have a strong desire to travel to. You could say it's like a vacation bucket list.

Surprisingly, this book that I borrowed turned out to have some truly great ideas of places to visit. It was filled with detailed descriptions and interesting facts about various destinations around the world.

I was so impressed that I highly recommend it to anyone who is also passionate about traveling and looking for inspiration for their next adventure. Whether you prefer tropical beaches, historical cities, or mountainous regions, this book is likely to have something that will catch your eye and spark your wanderlust.

It has definitely given us a lot to think about and has helped us narrow down our list of potential travel destinations.

I've traveled extensively. While this book features many interesting places, it appears to be tailored for wealthy individuals who stay in luxurious hotels and dine at 3-star Michelin restaurants.

I, on the other hand, am more of an "off the beaten path" traveler. I delight in uncovering the lesser-known treasures and getting to know the local favorites. I have a passion for strange museums and week-long hiking expeditions, which perhaps aren't the author's cup of tea.

I've visited many of the cities listed in the book, as well as some that aren't but should be included. In conclusion, there are indeed some great places mentioned, but it is more geared towards the country club crowd who frequent spas and can afford hot air balloon rides in wine country, rather than for adventurous backpackers who enjoy exploring the backstreets and sketchy neighborhoods, sampling snacks from food carts.

This book may have its merits for those with a more luxurious travel style, but it doesn't quite hit the mark for those of us who seek a more authentic and adventurous travel experience.

What can I say about this?

Well, there's not much to say at the moment. I'm still in the process of working on it! ;-P

Hmm... And it occurs to me that I probably should take the time to count how many places I have already visited.

This review is to be continued. *lol*

One day... some day? Will it be in the near or far future?

Who really knows? ¯\\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe it will be soon, and I'll have more to share. Or perhaps it will be a long time from now. Only time will tell.

For now, I'll just keep plugging away and see where this journey takes me.

Stay tuned for more updates!

This was really enjoyable to flip through and see the places where I had been and those where I hadn't.

It seems to be targeted at either the armchair traveler who loves to dream about far-off destinations or the uber-rich traveler who can afford the most luxurious accommodations.

However, it made me feel extremely poverty-stricken when I realized that I couldn't afford 99% of the hotels they recommend.

There definitely needs to be a book titled "1000 Places to Stay for the Broke" that would provide options for those of us on a tighter budget.

This would allow us to also have the opportunity to explore new places and have wonderful experiences without breaking the bank.

It would be great to have a resource that focuses on affordable yet comfortable and interesting places to stay, so that more people can fulfill their travel dreams.

Basic, dull and uninspired suggestions. That's what you'll find in this book. Despite having a catchy title, it fails to deliver on substance. Published in 2003, it's also quite outdated. The information and ideas presented may no longer be relevant or useful in today's travel landscape.

Don't be tempted to buy this as an easy gift book. There are far better travel bucket list books available in the market. These newer books offer more up-to-date and exciting suggestions, as well as beautiful photography and engaging writing.

When it comes to choosing a travel bucket list book, it's important to do your research and select one that will truly inspire you to explore the world. Look for books that are written by experienced travelers or travel experts, and that cover a wide range of destinations and activities.

In conclusion, while this book may have a catchy title, it's not worth your time or money. There are much better travel bucket list books out there waiting to be discovered.

They really only had the San Juan Islands and Pike Place Market for Washington spots.

However, the best thing is probably found in the introduction where the author quotes Mark Twain. “Travel, is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts (xiii).” This quote emphasizes the importance of travel in broadening our perspectives and breaking down barriers.

Another Twain quote, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. (xv),” further encourages us to take risks and pursue our dreams.

Thanks for saving this book Twain. His words serve as a reminder that travel and exploration can lead to personal growth and a more fulfilling life. We should all strive to follow his advice and step out of our comfort zones to discover the world around us.
