Due to an "accident" (ultimately revealed to be an experiment by Dr. Niles Caulder), test pilot Larry Trainor became host to a negative energy spirit known as Negative Man, that could safely leave his body for only 60 seconds before his body started to suffer ill effects. He also had to keep covered in specially coated bandages because the treatment made him highly radioactive.

When Captain Zahl seemingly killed the Doom Patrol, Larry was left in suspended animation, and the negative energy spirit found itself a new host in Valentina Vostok. When Larry was restored to health, he was angered that he was still too radioactive to go without the treated bandages, but now lacked superpowers, and held Vostok directly respnsible.

After the release of the gene bomb, the negative energy spirit left Vostok and returned to Trainor, but decided that it needed to be in both a man and a woman, so it merged itself with Trainor and his doctor, Eleanor Poole, much to the chagrin of Eleanor's fiancé. Call…more
