Emily Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886) was an American poet. Though she was a prolific poet, only 10 of her nearly 1,800 poems were published during her lifetime. The poems published at the time were usually edited significantly to fit conventional poetic rules. Her poems were unique to her era.
Her work was published posthumously when her younger sister Lavinia discovered a cache of her writings.
