It's extremely difficult to refrain from writing all my reviews for Toni Morrison's books as just 'oh', 'wow', 'damn' because they truly leave me in a state of incoherent speechlessness. If I considered 'A Mercy' to be good, then this one is absolutely insane.
She has an uncanny ability to understand the intricacies and subtleties of human behavior. Her observant and incisive nature is almost incomprehensible. Her prose is virtuosic, achieving a precarious yet perfect balance between being economical and lyrical. Everything is in just the right quantity, and the symphonic complexity of personality and history is such that it kind of shouldn't work, but it does every single time.
I absolutely adored this book. It's a literary masterpiece that continues to amaze and inspire with each reading. Toni Morrison's talent is truly unparalleled, and this book is a testament to her genius.
