This book is truly incredible.

As I delved into its pages, I was filled with awe. It's easy to forget the hardships that people endured during the civil rights movements.

The sight of children in segregation is heart-wrenching. The carefully chosen photos in this book are simply breathtaking.

The words, though simple, have a profound impact. I felt as if I was not just reading the story but actually living it.

As a teacher, this book has given me a new perspective. It has made me think more deeply about segregation.

Seeing a classroom divided, two water fountains side by side, and the hate on people's faces is truly saddening.

I truly appreciate this story and will definitely use it in my classroom.

I wholeheartedly give this book 5 stars out of 5. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the history and significance of the civil rights movement.

I was quite young during most of this period, but I do recall what happened then.

It has always been a mystery to me how human beings can be so brutally cruel to one another.

The things I witnessed or heard about left a lasting impression on my young mind.

I couldn't fathom the reasons behind such inhumane behavior.

Was it greed, hatred, or a lack of empathy?

These questions still linger in my thoughts.

As I grew older, I hoped to find answers and perhaps make a difference in the world to prevent such cruelty from happening again.

But the reality is that human cruelty persists, and it continues to baffle and sadden me.

I can only hope that one day, we as a species will learn to be kinder and more compassionate towards each other.

This is such a beautiful book. It is simple in its presentation, yet so powerful in its message. It has the ability to bring one to tears. Morrison skillfully reminds us that these were children. Somehow, these photographs seem to transcend time. Perhaps it is the expressions on the faces of the children that do it. Instead of being distracted by the old cars and the kids wearing ties to school, this book truly brings home the importance and timelessness of the issue of school integration.

It was fascinating to read the photo information in the back of the book and observe how the integration issues persisted for decades after the Brown decision. One can easily think of the snapshot of Elizabeth Eckford in 1957 and then feel a sense of relief when seeing the picture of two girls holding hands while riding a school bus. However, it was only when I noticed the date of the second picture, which was 1975, that it really dawned on me how long and arduous the process of integrating schools was... and still is.

This is an extremely informative book.

Although there isn't an abundance of text, what is present is highly significant.

Primarily, it is a photographic study that delves into racial segregation, the impacts of Brown vs. Board of Education, and the persistent segregation and racial discrimination that extends far beyond the realm of schools.

The book vividly portrays how Black children and adults likely felt while living in a world where they were constantly looked down upon.

It showcases the uncertainty that children faced, never truly knowing whether white children regarded them simply as kids or as "colored" kids.

The photographs within the book are excellent and highly revealing.

It doesn't require a great deal of time to read, yet it should be read by everyone.

This book serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding and confronting the history of racial inequality.

It offers valuable insights into the experiences and emotions of those who have endured discrimination, and it encourages us to work towards a more just and equal society.

Simple, yet powerful look at the ramifications of and reasons for the Brown vs the Board of Education landmark decision to desegregate schools during the civil rights movement.

This decision was a turning point in American history. It aimed to end the unjust practice of segregating students based on race.

The reasons behind this decision were many. Segregation had long been a source of inequality and discrimination, denying African American students equal educational opportunities.

The ramifications of this decision were far-reaching. It led to significant changes in the educational system, as schools began to integrate and provide a more inclusive learning environment.

Kids learn good or bad behavior from their parents. This is an important factor to consider when looking at the impact of the Brown vs the Board of Education decision.

Parents play a crucial role in shaping their children's values and attitudes towards diversity and equality.

If parents model acceptance and respect for all races, their children are more likely to grow up with a similar mindset.

Conversely, if parents exhibit prejudice and discrimination, their children may be influenced by these negative attitudes.

Therefore, it is essential for parents to be aware of the importance of teaching their children about equality and to actively promote a culture of acceptance and respect in their families and communities.

What I truly cherish about this book is the fact that all the pictures presented within are of real individuals, not mere imagined illustrations.

Toni Morrison, with her exquisite words, infuses these pictures with profound emotions.

As a result, the reader not only gains a visual understanding of what life was like during the arduous journey towards school integration but also experiences it on a deeper, more visceral level.

The combination of real-life images and Morrison's evocative language creates a powerful and immersive reading experience.

It allows the reader to step into the shoes of those who lived through that significant era and truly empathize with their struggles, hopes, and dreams.

This book serves as a remarkable testament to the power of words and images to convey the essence of a historical moment and connect with the reader's heart and soul.

It is a work that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression and inspire further reflection on the importance of equality and social justice.
