5 stars & 5/10 hearts. This was truly an incredibly fun book to read. Mayzie was just awful. She was so irresponsible and selfish, and I was extremely pleased when she finally got what was coming to her.

However, Horton was simply amazing! I adored his constancy and honour. He was so committed to sitting on that egg and keeping it safe, no matter what. His unwavering dedication was truly inspiring.

Like all of Dr. Seuss's books, the writing in this one was also great. It was engaging, full of rhymes and rhythms that made it a joy to read aloud. The story was just a total delight from start to finish.

The little poem within the text really added to the charm. They laughed and they laughed. Then they all ran away. And Horton was lonely. He wanted to play. But he sat on the egg and continued to say: “I meant what I said And I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful One hundred percent!” It really captured Horton's spirit and his determination.

This book is a must-read for anyone, young or old. It's a wonderful story about loyalty, responsibility, and the importance of keeping one's word. I highly recommend it!

This is an incredibly exciting book that has the power to capture a child's imagination. It is written by the great Dr. Seuss, a master of creating wonderful and engaging stories.

I would highly recommend this book for children aged 4 - 7 years. It teaches them in a fun and entertaining way the importance of keeping your word and looking out for those in need.

The story follows Mayzie, a very lazy bird who persuades Horton, an elephant, to sit on her egg and help her hatch it while she takes a well-earned rest. However, what Horton doesn't know is that Mayzie is headed for a very long break to Palm Springs.

Dr. Seuss has a unique talent for making the reader believe in the impossible. In this story, he makes us believe that elephants can climb trees, a nest can hold an elephant's weight, and an egg won't break when they sit on it! As Horton finds himself on a series of adventures, including a sea voyage and a travelling circus, he refuses to leave the egg unattended. He firmly sticks by his word, "I meant what I said and I said what I meant, And an elephant's faithful, one hundred per cent!"

Horton grows very attached to this precious egg, but then he finds himself face to face with Mayzie, who wants her egg back. However, when the egg hatches, out comes an elephant bird. Now the question is, who will keep this strange creature?

You'll have to get reading to find out! This book is filled with excellent verses that you will thoroughly enjoy reading out loud. It's a must-read for any child and a great addition to any bookshelf.

An oldie but a goodie. This story truly has its charm, although it is about a deadbeat mother. It might seem a bit disheartening at first, but don't worry, it has a happy ending that will warm your heart. The main character, Horton, is a real hero. He shows great courage and kindness in the face of difficult circumstances. To be honest, it can be a bit of a tearjerker. You might find yourself reaching for the Kleenex as you read along. But that's what makes it such a great story. It makes you feel a whole range of emotions and leaves you with a sense of hope and joy. So, if you're looking for a story that will touch your soul, this is definitely one to read.

This book is starkly memorable for the heroic persistence of Horton,

whose word truly is as good as his bond.

No argument or threat can make him leave the egg he agreed to sit on.

His noble attitude is rewarded by one of the most emotionally satisfying endings of any picture book.

Horton Hatches the Egg may be Dr. Seuss's most inspirational story.

It is entrenched in my heart via Horton's famous repeated words.

I want to be more like Horton.

His unwavering commitment and determination are truly remarkable.

Despite facing numerous challenges and difficulties, he never gives up on his promise.

This story teaches us the importance of keeping our word and being true to our commitments.

Horton's actions serve as an inspiration for us all to be more reliable and trustworthy.

We should strive to have the same kind of integrity and perseverance in our own lives.

Just like Horton, we should be willing to stand up for what we believe in and not let anything or anyone deter us from achieving our goals.

The story of Horton Hatches the Egg is a timeless classic that will continue to inspire generations to come.

A fool like Phil Sajak doesn't know when to stop. He seems to be constantly making mistakes and not learning from them. His actions are often impulsive and lack thought. It's as if he is completely oblivious to the consequences of his behavior. He charges ahead without considering the impact on those around him. His lack of self-awareness is truly astonishing. One would think that after so many blunders, he would have learned to be more cautious. But no, he continues to act in the same foolish manner. It's a wonder how he has managed to get this far in life. Maybe he has some hidden charm or talent that we don't see. But from what we can observe, he is just a bumbling fool who doesn't know when to call it quits.

It's truly impossible for me to single out a favorite Dr. Seuss book. However, this particular one presents some extremely tough competition.

Whenever I read it to my nursery school English classes, it becomes a fascinating moment. Just before the baby hatches, I pose the question to the kids: to whom does the egg ultimately belong?

The younger kids in the class, typically aged 2 to 3 years old, almost unanimously say that the egg belongs to the bird. Their reasoning is simple and intuitive - eggs are associated with birds.

On the other hand, the older kids, aged 4 to 5, have a different perspective. They assert that the egg belongs to the elephant because he took care of it.

This difference in responses is an interesting revelation. It shows how kids approach the world at different stages as they strive to make sense of it. It highlights the evolving cognitive abilities and thought processes of children as they grow and develop.

One of Dr Seuss's earliest books is, in my opinion, his all-time best. I have an absolute adoration for Horton. His unwavering determination and goodness, along with those wonderful expressions on his dear face, are truly captivating. I still find myself reading this book several times a year, and I am never disappointed. It always brings me great pleasure to see that things work out well for Horton in the end.

Interestingly, it turns out that Dr Seuss was ahead of his time. Research into the lives of elephants in the wild has revealed that they are indeed one hundred percent faithful. This adds an extra layer of depth and significance to the story. It makes me appreciate Dr Seuss's work even more, knowing that he was able to capture the essence of these magnificent creatures so accurately.

Horton Hears a Who! is not just a children's book; it is a timeless classic that teaches us important lessons about kindness, loyalty, and the value of every life. It has the power to touch the hearts of readers of all ages and leave a lasting impression. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a heartwarming and inspiring read.

*Review from my eight year old*

This book was truly an amazing one. The story began with Horton sitting on the egg patiently. It was so interesting to see how Horton took on this responsibility. Then, when the bird finally hatched out of the egg, something really wonderful happened. The little bird thought Horton was his mother! And the description of the bird was so vivid. It looked like an elephant with wings, which was such a unique and imaginative image. Meanwhile, the real mother had this really mad look on her face. It made me wonder what would happen next. Overall, this book had me completely engaged from start to finish. It was full of adventure and surprises, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

A childhood favorite that I had completely forgotten about until now.

Even though I recall the end where Mayzie wants the hatchling back, it wasn't until this moment that I truly understood its significance. It's not just a simple story but also a great adoption metaphor, teaching us the importance of keeping our promises, even when it requires great courage and endurance.

However, I must admit that the very ending is a bit unrealistic. In reality, the humans would be far more eager to keep Horton and the special hatchling with them rather than allowing them to return to their home. This aspect made me deduct almost half a star from my rating (even though I understand that it's a children's book and perhaps there isn't any other suitable way to end it).

Nonetheless, if you haven't read this book or have forgotten about it, I highly recommend that you do so right away. It's a charming and thought-provoking tale that is sure to delight readers of all ages.
