About the Story.

Horton, the kind-hearted elephant, answers a mother bird's earnest request for help. She asks Horton to stay on her nest while she takes a much-needed break. This charming story serves as a wonderful springboard for a variety of discussions. Firstly, it can prompt a thought-provoking conversation about the definition of mother/motherhood. What does it truly mean to be a mother? Is it just about giving birth or does it involve much more? Secondly, the story can also lead to a debate about nature versus nurture. Does Horton's decision to help the mother bird stem from his inherent nature or is it influenced by the circumstances? Thirdly, it can make us reflect on decisions and commitments. Horton makes a commitment to the mother bird and has to stick to it, no matter what. This can make us think about the importance of making decisions carefully and following through with our commitments. Finally, the story can also be a starting point for a discussion about commitment and love. Horton's commitment to the mother bird is driven by his love and kindness, which shows that commitment and love go hand in hand.

About the art.

The artist has used art sticks - Deco Green and Carmine Red and Black-and-white on off-white paper to create a visually stunning piece. The contrasts between green and red, as well as between black and white, are truly striking and add a sense of depth and drama to the artwork. These contrasts also serve to show the contrasting commitment to parenting. The green and red may represent the different aspects of parenting - the nurturing and the disciplining. The black and white, on the other hand, may represent the clear choices that parents have to make when it comes to raising their children. Overall, the art work is a beautiful and powerful representation of the themes explored in the story.

Mayzie the bird is extremely tired of attempting to hatch her egg.

Thankfully, Horton, the kind-hearted elephant, comes to her rescue and agrees to keep the egg warm for her.

But the question remains: Will Horton remain committed to this task no matter what difficulties or challenges come his way?

This is a beloved Dr. Seuss classic that is told in a delightful rhyme and accompanied by wonderful illustrations.

I adored it when I was a child, and it has stood the test of time and still holds great charm today.

Moreover, it imparts a valuable lesson about staying true to your commitments.

This is a truly lovely book penned by the renowned Dr. Seuss.

The story begins with the lazy bird, Maysie, who desires to take a break. She cunningly convinces Horton the elephant to sit on her egg and await its hatching. However, what Horton doesn't know is that Maysie's 'break' actually means setting off for a permanent vacation in Palm Springs.

Horton patiently waits and waits, enduring all kinds of weather. He is ridiculed and taunted by others. They yell, "How Absurd! Old Horton the Elephant thinks he's a bird!" He even faces danger when hunters shoot at him. Despite all these hardships, Horton shows remarkable patience. And in the end, he is rewarded with the unexpected birth of an elephant-bird.

I am a die-hard fan of Dr Seuss, and thus I thoroughly enjoyed this story. "Horton Hatches the Egg" is not only a very enjoyable book for children to read on their own but also a great choice for a teacher to read aloud to the class. The wonderful combination of rhyme, rhythm, and repetition makes this story suitable for both children in the early stages of reading and those who are more confident.

Besides having a captivating story and beautiful illustrations, "Horton Hatches the Egg" paves the way for discussions on the concept of parenthood and what constitutes a good mother. The story also touches upon the significance of patience and how we should treat others. Therefore, this book would be extremely effective in accompanying PSHE lessons.

Horton the elephant is truly a remarkable and great friend.

He selflessly takes on the responsibility of caring for a rather hateful bird's egg.

Month after month, through various kinds of weather conditions and even in the face of men hunting, Horton remains steadfastly by the egg's side.

The story is written in a delightful rhyme, which makes it not only easy but also extremely fun to read.

As one reads along, it has the wonderful effect of bringing forth giggles and smiles to the reader's face.

It's a charming tale that showcases Horton's kindness and perseverance, and it's sure to capture the hearts of both children and adults alike.

Whether read aloud or enjoyed silently, this story is bound to leave a lasting impression and bring a touch of joy to anyone who encounters it.

‘Horton Hatches the Egg’ is the second picture book about my favorite character, Horton the Elephant. This time, the elephant agrees to incubate an egg for a bird without anticipating the storms that this task will bring. However, no matter what, Horton is determined to keep his promise until the end, because “I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful one-hundred percent.”

Only a talented children's author like Dr. Seuss could write such a charming story of an “elephant incubating an egg.” A story that seems absurd yet is not at all far-fetched when reading,看似简单却蕴含着许多人生哲理: sincerity, keeping promises, and more deeply, the parent-child relationship, discussing the achievements of parenting and nurturing,.... Horton the Elephant is surely one of the kindest, most faithful, and selfless characters I have ever read (besides Sunaokasan the raccoon).

‘Horton Hatches the Egg’ has been published in Vietnam under the title ‘Voi Ho-tơn ấp trứng,’ but I haven't read this version. For me, Dr. Seuss's books are best enjoyed in the original language. ‘Horton Hatches the Egg’ also has an animated version of the same name released in 1942. Perhaps because it is condensed into 10 minutes, this animated version is much more faithful to the original work than ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ (2008).

Aha, look at this Hatimukh bird! It reminds me of the famous Hatim in Sukumar Ray's works!

Hatimukh is a unique and interesting bird. It has distinct characteristics that make it stand out. In Sukumar Ray's stories, Hatim is often a central and captivating character. The bird Hatimukh might share some of the qualities and charm that Hatim has in the literary world.

Seeing this Hatimukh bird here, it brings to mind the wonderful and imaginative world created by Sukumar Ray. It makes us wonder what adventures and tales this bird could potentially be a part of. Maybe it has its own unique story to tell, just like Hatim in the books. It is truly a fascinating sight and a connection to the rich literary heritage of Sukumar Ray.

When Mayzie the lazy bird lays an egg on top of a tree, she simply can't be bothered to wait for it to hatch.

So, she persuades Horton the elephant to take on this task for her. Horton sits there through various kinds of weather.

The other animals laugh at him, and he even survives being shot at by hunters.

Then, he gets transported by cart and boat only to be sold to a circus, all while remaining on top of the egg on the tree.

During all of Horton's sufferings, lazy Mayzie is relaxing on a beach, completely oblivious to the hardships poor Horton is going through.

When the circus comes to the beach, she decides to take a look. It is at this point that the two characters meet again, and some rather unexpected events unfold.

This is a very enjoyable book for children to read individually or to be read aloud to the class.

Due to the amusing storyline and Dr Seuss’ unique blend of rhyme, rhythm, and repetition, it is an excellent book for children who are just beginning to read, as well as for more confident readers.

Moreover, this book would also be a great accompaniment for a PSHE lesson as it deals with the concept of parenthood and what qualities make a responsible and caring parent.

You've nothing to do and I do need a rest.
Would YOU like to sit on the egg in my nest?

This is the story of the egg of a bird named Mayzie. Just like many mothers, she is tired of taking care of her unborn child. Determined to go on vacation to Palm Beach, Mayzie flirts with Horton, a kind elephant. After her persistent requests, Horton takes her place on top of the small egg.

"Old Horton the Elephant
Thinks he's a bird!"

Horton is loving and trustworthy, unlike Mayzie who prefers to travel and have fun. However, despite being very different, both have won my empathy. Despite the difficult task and the difficulties he faced, from the weather to curious animals and hunters, Horton did not abandon the egg for 51 weeks!

"An elephant's faithful
One hundred per cent!"

In the end, by chance, the mother reunites with her egg, which she had long forgotten. At that moment, she claims it as her own and treats the elephant who took care of it poorly until it...hatched! After all, to whom does the animal that came into the world belong? The answer lies in the small creature, but to find out, you have to see it in this small book that has so much truth.

One of my favorite books is "Horton Hatches the Egg" written by Dr. Seuss.

\\tI firmly believe that other kids should also read this AWESOME book and rate it 5 stars.

\\tOne reason I highly recommend this book is because it is incredibly interesting. Horton, the elephant, is sitting on an egg just like a bird! Imagine that! Horton endures the freezing cold of winter while sitting on the egg. There is a storm raging, but Horton remains steadfast, sitting on the egg. He keeps his word 100%.

\\tAnother great aspect of "Horton Hatches the Egg" is that the entire Dr. Seuss book rhymes. For example, Horton always says, “I meant what I said and I said what I meant ….. an elephant’s faithful one hundred percent!” This rhyming makes the book not only fun to read but also easy to remember.

\\tMoreover, Horton teaches Mayzie a valuable lesson. Mayzie is supposed to sit on the egg, but instead, she goes on vacation and leaves Horton to do all the work. Horton sits on the egg for weeks, while Mayzie is irresponsible. In the end, Horton shows Mayzie the importance of keeping her word and promises.

\\tNow you understand why I recommend this book to children and give it 5 stars. I truly hope that you will also read this wonderful book and enjoy it as much as I do!

"I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful, 100 percent." This simple yet profound statement holds a great lesson. It emphasizes the importance of honesty and integrity in our words and actions. If only people in the real world could always mean what they say and say what they mean, what a better place this would be. We would have more trust, fewer misunderstandings, and stronger relationships. Dr. Seuss had an amazing ability to teach such valuable lessons in fun, creative, and inspiring ways. His books are not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. They encourage us to look at the world from a different perspective and to think about the consequences of our words and actions. We should all strive to be more like Horton the Elephant and be 100 percent faithful to our words and commitments.

As soon as I opened the book, I immediately recognized it as a Dr. Seuss book.

The cover is a bold green with a white Horton standing out prominently. The thick black lines from the illustrations and the cover are also a traditional Seuss style, which gives it a unique and recognizable look.

Inside on the pages, the images seem as if they are drawn and shaded in with color pencils. The illustrations are a beautiful combination of teal and white, with accents of red. The red helps draw the viewer’s eye across the pages and deep into the detailed drawings, adding an element of visual interest.

The text is very lyrical and rhymes in a highly entertaining way. As I read it in my head, I fell into a rhythm that made the reading experience even more enjoyable.

A fair amount of text covers a few of the pages, while others have only a few sentences on them. The book is fairly lengthy and uses some bigger words, yet it is still suitable for primary aged children.

I like how the settings, such as Palm Beach and New York, are real, but Horton and the other animals are fictional creatures. This combination creates a sense of both familiarity and fantasy.

The story had a great moral. Horton was loyal and responsible when he stayed with the bird’s egg. The bird did not want to come back from vacation and did not want to take the egg back at all until the hard, boring work was done. In the end, Horton was rewarded for his hard work and loyalty.

This was one of my favorite books so far, and it left a lasting impression on me with its engaging illustrations, entertaining text, and valuable moral lesson.
