Mar 10, 6:30 pm ~~ This may sound terrible, but for many years, I was only familiar with Elie Wiesel's first name as the answer to crossword puzzle clues.

After learning about his Night trilogy, I still shied away from reading his work because the topic of the Holocaust was simply too distressing for me to confront.

However, in 2023, I read his book Sages And Dreamers, and it sparked my curiosity to know more about Wiesel. I ordered several volumes, starting with the Night trilogy and then moving on to this memoir, which chronicles his life up to the age of forty. There is a second volume that will pick up where this one leaves off. I will be reading that book fairly soon, but I just needed a short break first.

Wiesel's writing can be a bit challenging: he delves deeply into every topic and poses difficult and uncomfortable questions. He mentions names that are sometimes familiar but often not. I found myself doing a lot of research as I read along. I also ordered a few books he commented on, titles that made a big impact upon their original publication and apparently became classics in later years.

It was great to get to know the man beyond the crossword puzzles. I am eagerly looking forward to reading And the Sea Is Never Full: Memoirs 1969 to discover what happened next.

Mar 5, 6 pm ~~ Fascinating. I will soon be reading Wiesel's second memoir, but I need a break from this story first. I will write a proper review of this one as soon as possible. There are still a few things I need to look into.

**Title: A Stellar Review**

I recently had an experience that truly deserves 4.5 stars.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and excellent service. The staff was not only knowledgeable but also extremely helpful in guiding me through the options.

The quality of the product or service I received was top-notch. It exceeded my expectations in many ways. The attention to detail was remarkable, and it was clear that a lot of effort had gone into ensuring its excellence.

The overall atmosphere was inviting and comfortable, making it a pleasant place to be. I felt relaxed and at ease throughout my visit.

Although there were a few minor不足之处, they did not overshadow the many positive aspects. I would highly recommend this place to others.

In conclusion, I am very satisfied with my experience and would rate it 4.5 stars without hesitation. It is definitely a place worth visiting again.

Elie Wiesel has painstakingly compiled a plethora of his memoirs, resulting in an extremely interesting book.

I delved into this book immediately after reading the Ruth Gruber book, and I was truly amazed at how well they coordinated.

Despite the fact that they examined various events from different angles, their perceptions were strikingly similar.

However, Wiesel has a tendency to repeat himself rather frequently, which I found somewhat distracting.

Nonetheless, anyone with an interest in Europe during the middle of the 20th century is bound to enjoy this book.

It offers a unique and valuable perspective on that tumultuous era, filled with personal accounts and insights that bring the history to life.

Whether you are a history buff or simply someone looking for a thought-provoking read, Wiesel's memoirs are well worth exploring.

They provide a window into a world that was both tragic and transformative, and a reminder of the importance of remembering the past.

Is Wiesel serious? This is a question that comes to mind when reading this review.

The review, which can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..., offers some interesting insights.

It seems that Wiesel's work is being analyzed and evaluated in a detailed manner.

The reviewer may have their own perspective and opinions about Wiesel's seriousness.

Perhaps they are质疑 the authenticity or depth of his ideas.

On the other hand, they could also be simply trying to understand his work from a different angle.

Regardless of the reviewer's stance, it is clear that Wiesel's work has sparked some discussion and debate.

This review provides an opportunity for readers to engage with his ideas and form their own judgments.

It also shows the importance of critical thinking and analysis when it comes to evaluating literature.

Overall, the question of whether Wiesel is serious remains open, and it is up to each individual reader to decide based on their own reading and interpretation.

69 pages in and I'm giving up.

I really wish I could have gotten into this book. However, the way it is written, with its rambling, disjointed, and non-linear storytelling, simply does not appeal to me or hold my interest.

The lack of a clear and连贯的 narrative makes it difficult for me to follow the plot and engage with the characters.

It feels as if the author is jumping from one idea to another without any real connection or purpose.

Maybe this style of writing works for some people, but for me, it is just too confusing and frustrating.

I have tried to push through, but after 69 pages, I have finally decided that it's time to move on to something else.

Hopefully, I will find a book that is more to my taste and can keep me entertained from start to finish.

In this remarkable work,

by perhaps the most famous Auschwitz survivor of my era,

the author delves deep into a plethora of emotional issues.

He is truly a very good writer,

and among other aspects,

I am resolute in my determination to explore the names he lists of those who influenced him.

The significance of these names intrigues me,

and I am eager to uncover the stories and connections behind them.

Additionally,

I am extremely eager to read more of his writing.

His words have a profound impact,

and I believe there is much more to discover and learn from his works.

I look forward to further immersing myself in his literary world

and experiencing the emotions and insights he has to offer.

Wiesel was a Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life to sharing his story and educating others about the importance of never repeating the mistakes of the past. His courage and perseverance in the face of such adversity are truly inspiring, and his message of hope and forgiveness is one that we can all learn from.

It is truly wonderful to listen to Elie reading his own words. There is something incredibly powerful and moving about hearing the author himself give life to his written work. However, the fact that this particular reading is abridged to such an extent is a cause for concern. When a piece is abridged, important details, nuances, and the overall flow and rhythm of the original may be lost. This can have a significant impact on the message and the emotional connection that the work is intended to convey. In this case, it seems that the abridgment has gone too far, to the point where the very purpose of the piece may be in jeopardy. We must strive to find a balance between making a work more accessible through abridgment and preserving its integrity and essence.

This book is the somewhat disjointed memoir of Elie Wiesel.

It spans his childhood before the Holocaust and ends with his wedding in 1969. It is truly remarkable to learn about the long period he lived as a “stateless person” without citizenship.

The challenges and loneliness he endured in the years following the end of the war were immense.

However, he managed to find community and purpose in his work as a journalist and writer.

He covered stories about Israel, reported from France and the United Nations.

I was especially drawn to the section on Soviet Jewry and his dangerous trip to the USSR to show solidarity with them.

My first teaching job was with Jewish refugees from the breakup of the USSR, and I couldn't help but wonder if any of their parents had met him.

Inspiring and steadfast, Wiesel remained incredibly humble about his accomplishments.

He was dedicated to human rights, and his work serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up for what is right.

His memoir is a testament to his courage and resilience in the face of unimaginable苦难.

It is a must-read for anyone interested in history, human rights, or the power of the human spirit.

In conversation, mention was made of Eli Weisel's All Rivers Run to the Sea: Memoir.

Intrigued, I decided to visit my local library to see if it was still on the shelves. To my surprise, when I checked the library card, I discovered that I had last checked out this book twenty-six years ago.

After retrieving the book, I began to read it again, and I quickly realized that it was definitely worth the second reading. Weisel's memoir is a powerful account of his childhood, the horrors of the Holocaust, and his life following that tragic event.

His words serve as a strong voice speaking out against the continued atrocities that are still found in our world today. Weisel's experiences remind us of the importance of remembering the past and standing up against injustice.

This book is not only a personal account but also a call to action for all of us to work towards a more peaceful and just world.

I read this with a book club.

Three stars reflect my rating system of “liked it but wouldn’t read it again.”

Weisel’s Memoirs was interesting in parts. There were times, however, when I had trouble following the circular telling of life events.

Nonetheless, there were various things I enjoyed reading and made notes and comments in the margins.

One of my favorite chapters was “Writing.” In this chapter, he shared tidbits about how various novels were written and published.

Before I would pick up his second memoir, I would read one of his novels. This would give me a better understanding of his writing style and the themes he explores.

I believe that reading his novels first would enhance my experience of reading his memoirs.

Overall, while Weisel’s Memoirs had its flaws, it was still an interesting read that provided insights into his life and work.

I look forward to reading more of his work in the future.

Elie Wiesel, who lived through the horrors of the Holocaust, unfortunately lost his father, mother, and little sister. In his autobiography, he opens up and shares his profound thoughts and vivid memories.

Remarkably, he doesn't simply bombard us with the gruesome and heart-wrenching details. Instead, he engages in deep pondering and questioning. He makes us wonder how and why such an unimaginably horrible thing could have occurred.

As we read his account, we are left not only to wonder but also to celebrate this truly phenomenal man. His life story is truly remarkable, a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of unfathomable tragedy. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of never forgetting and of working towards a more just and peaceful world.
