BÁT CHÁNH ĐẠO Con Đường Đến Hạnh Phúc by Thiền Sư Bhante Henepola Gunaratana

The full name of this book is: Theo Dấu Chân Phật - Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness Walking the Buddha’s Path, and the author is Thiền Sư Bhante Henepola Gunaratana.

There are some books that are not meant to be read through quickly, put aside, and considered as crossed off the list, and this book is one of them.

The last two chapters, which talk about right mindfulness and right concentration, require more practice from me before I can re-read them.

There are also other chapters that, after reading, I have to stop and take the time to think, to look back at myself, to savor, before moving on to the next part.

This is a book that I don't listen to while cycling or before going to sleep. Instead, I sit up straight, alone and quiet, concentrate on listening and take notes on some things. Just like going to school.

The feeling of reading is not at all comfortable. Indeed, it is impossible to be at ease when forced to look directly at one's emotions instead of avoiding them, when having to practice being fully focused while reading.

Reading is not just to know. But also to act immediately upon learning.

Like other books by the same author, this one mainly focuses on guiding meditation in the simplest language, gathering precious knowledge, with specific and relatable examples.

The book is not the truth. The author is not the truth either.

One has to step on the path oneself, the long path that runs through all life experiences, when sowing the seeds of kindness in thoughts, words, and actions.
