I read this book at least 10 years ago.

Even after such a long time, I can still vividly recall the entire story line, from the very beginning to the end.

I really had a great enjoyment while reading it.

But strangely enough, I have no idea why this book had such a lasting impact on me.

Perhaps it was the unique characters, the thrilling plot twists, or the beautiful writing style.

Whatever the reason, this book has become one of my favorites and will always hold a special place in my heart.

I often think about it and wonder if I will have the same experience if I read it again today.

Maybe I will discover something new and exciting that I missed the first time around.

Only time will tell.

A good read - teaches a little about the war without being a textbook.

It provides an interesting and engaging perspective on the war, presenting it in a way that is accessible and understandable.

However, it's important to note that it does cover all aspects of war, so it might not be suitable for really young kids.

Among the various stories and characters, I liked the story of Ollie the best.

It was captivating and added a unique flavor to the overall narrative.

One thing that I found a bit challenging was the presence of so many abbreviations.

I had no idea what they meant, which sometimes made it difficult to fully understand certain parts of the text.

Despite this minor drawback, overall, it was a worthwhile read that offered valuable insights into the war and its impact.

I would recommend it to others who are interested in learning about war in a more engaging and less dry way.

Books that are randomly selected can surprise you until the brink of death :).

There is a book about a cat that decides to go to war with the name of its owner during World War II and brings the peace of sleeping back to the paws of Jeffrey.

Lord Grunt, although it had the name of a boy, was a female playful cat that was removed from the battlefield and in the meantime, many important people became and brought good luck for them.

Lord Grunt had a long journey; it left the soil of England and saw several other countries along with the pilots.

The life of Lord Grunt was more burdensome and exciting than the entire 30-year life of mine.

What an extraordinary book!

It is not merely a wonderful account about a pet. Instead, it is an historical (albeit partially fictional) novel set during the Second World War. In this captivating story, a cat with a sixth sense to "follow" her "person" embarks on a journey that lasts most of her life. Mysteriously, she brings luck and salvation to all those she encounters along the way.

Is it because of her sixth sense that allows her to somehow "sense" danger? Or is it a superstition that black cats are really lucky? This marvelous book is breathtaking, intense, and extremely well-written. I had the pleasure of reading it many years ago, and now I find myself loving it even more.

Absolutely a good-read!!!!!

I'm not really a big enthusiast of war stories, nor am I overly fond of animals being used as characters in books.

From the very first few pages, I had anticipated a significantly greater amount of the story being told from the cat's point of view. However, as the storyline advanced, there was disappointingly less of its perspective.

I can only rate it as 3 stars because it simply didn't meet my initial expectations.

Nevertheless, it was still a rather nice and optimistic story considering it was set during a very sad and depressive period in history. It managed to bring a glimmer of hope and light to what could have been a very dark and沉重的 narrative.

Despite its shortcomings in terms of fulfilling my expectations regarding the cat's perspective, it did have its redeeming qualities and was an interesting read overall.

Because war is just as bitter, just as resentful, just as atrocious, from the point of view of a cat.

Imagine a world torn apart by conflict, a place where the sounds of gunfire and explosions shatter the peace. For a cat, this is a terrifying reality. The once familiar streets are now filled with chaos and danger.

The cat, with its sensitive ears and keen senses, can feel the vibrations of the bombs and the screams of the people. It hides in the shadows, afraid to come out.

War brings destruction and loss, not only to human lives but also to the innocent animals that share our world. The cat, like many others, suffers the consequences of this senseless violence.

We should remember that war has a profound impact on all living beings. From the tiniest insect to the largest mammal, no one is immune. We must strive for peace and find better ways to resolve our differences.

An absolutely brilliant burst of escapism. It's truly a captivating experience that takes you away from the ordinary.

As a forty-something man who has a passion for football, enjoys a good beer, and works in a builder's merchant, I am far from the typical target audience for this book. However, deep within the darkest corners of my being, there lies a side that seldom reveals itself. My love for cats played a significant role in my choice of this book, which I discovered in a charity shop.

The tale is a heartwarming and truly lovely story about a cat and her journey. She follows her owner, who served in the RAF during the war, and then tries to find her way back to him. The journey is filled with danger and leaves lasting marks on Lord Fort, but it is also a wonderfully delivered slice of escapism.

I sat there, with music playing and a large glass of chablis in hand, eagerly turning the pages and couldn't wait to read more. It was a truly immersive experience that transported me to another world.

I don't like cats at all. However, this book was really enjoyable.

It was filled with interesting stories and charming illustrations that managed to capture my attention from the very beginning.

The author did a great job of presenting the lives and personalities of the cats in a way that made them seem almost human.

Even though I have a natural aversion to cats, I found myself laughing out loud at some of the antics described in the book.

It was a pleasant surprise to discover that a book about cats could be so entertaining.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether they are a cat lover or not.

It's a great read that will surely bring a smile to your face.

Lord Gort is just an ordinary cat.

She doesn't possess any magical powers and seldom does anything beyond what other cats are capable of.

When her master departs home to combat the Germans during World War II, Lord Gort embarks on a journey to track him down.

During her travels, a lonely volunteer in the Observer Corps befriends the black cat, as does a maverick sergeant, an old carter, and a young war widow.

Adopted by the rear gunner of a bomber plane, Lord Gort undertakes numerous missions over enemy territory.

After many successful flights, the fearless feline's luck eventually runs out. She and the rear gunner are forced to bail out over occupied France.

With the assistance of the Spanish and French resistance movements, the man and the cat manage to return to England, where Lord Gort is joyfully reunited with her master.

Each of these glimpses of men and women in wartime is as flawless as a pearl, and Lord Gort's journey serves as the single black thread upon which these precious beads are strung.

This remarkable tale showcases the extraordinary bond between a cat and her master, as well as the courage and determination of those caught up in the chaos of war.

I have longed to read this book for a very long time. So, when I spied this copy lying on the table at my local Book fair just last week, I was certain it was fate. I had been considering purchasing it on Kindle but had never actually made up my mind. Now, I managed to get it at the incredibly low price of just $1.

I was really drawn to the gritty and realistic portrayal in this book. The cat endures starvation and injury, while war rages all around it. The human characters were also excellent, each with their own unique qualities. To be honest, though, I would have preferred to have a stronger connection with the cat's own master rather than with every other character. Nevertheless, the cat must find its way home, and we accompany her on this journey until the very end.

I was quite surprised to discover that this is a much older book than I had initially thought. Since my copy indicates that it won the Smartie Award in 1989. I frequently read stories about animals in war, but most of them have been more contemporary. I truly enjoyed this one, especially considering its age. I liked the interconnected stories and the genuine emotions they evoked. I'm extremely glad that I've finally read it. Five stars without a doubt!

This book is truly a remarkable compilation of stories set during the Second World War. It is told from the perspectives of several diverse characters scattered across England. The unifying element throughout all these stories is the cat, Lord Gort. This charming feline trots around the country, in search of her human. Her human, incidentally, is a brave fighter pilot with the RAF (Royal Air Force), which means that poor little kitty has quite a bit of traveling to do.

I found most of the characters' stories to be engaging and captivating. However, there was one story that, unfortunately, fell a bit flat for me. It was located quite early on in the book. The account of Mrs Smiley's love/hate relationship with Sergeant Smith seemed to drag on and on. I felt that this part of the book was a bit too adult in nature and might not be suitable for children under the age of 14. In fact, I put the book down for several days during this section of the story.

Thankfully, I decided to pick the book back up again. The story of the lonely, snow-bound lady and the subsequent blitz firestorm bombing that obliterated Coventry was absolutely riveting. It was truly a heart-pounding and emotional read. And it only got better when the cat finally made it to the RAF airfield! I won't give away any spoilers, but I was completely transfixed, gripping the pages tightly.

And then, there was the ending. I have to admit that I shed a tear or two. Not many books have the power to evoke such strong emotions in me. But I won't reveal whether those tears were of joy or sadness. You'll just have to read the book for yourself to find out!

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction or stories about animals. It's a wonderful read that will keep you entertained from start to finish.
