For One More Day, similar to all of Mitch Albom's books, endeavors to be an endeavor in feel-good warmth.

Nevertheless, this overly wordy mortality narrative is not especially inspiring, uplifting, or even engaging.

When the protagonist attempts suicide, he has the opportunity to spend the titular "one more day" with his deceased mother. During this visit, he recalls his life growing up in a broken home, the errors he made, and how he would do things differently if he could. Interspersed are numerous examples of how he failed to stand up for his single mother and/or how she did stand up for him.

The issue with "For One More Day" is that the emotional drivel and manipulation do not have even a remotely satisfying conclusion. There are no lessons learned, no moment of enlightenment. Instead, it appears as if Albom blended his "Five People you Meet in Heaven" with "It's a Wonderful Life," drank it, and then regurgitated it onto the page. It is dull, uninteresting, exasperating, and empty. This morality tale could have been condensed into a Reader's Digest article and still held the same emotional impact.

For a collection of real-life lessons about the preciousness of life, discard "For One More Day" into the garbage can where it belongs and seek out a used copy of "Tuesdays with Morrie."

The touching story of maternal love and the near-death experience is truly heart-wrenching. It begins with a mother's unwavering dedication and sacrifice for her child. Through thick and thin, she stands by her side, facing every challenge with courage and determination.

One fateful day, a near-death situation occurs. The mother finds herself in a terrifying predicament, but her love for her child gives her the strength to fight on. In that moment, all her fears and concerns are for the safety and well-being of her little one.

The experience of coming so close to death changes the mother's perspective on life. She realizes the preciousness of every moment and the importance of holding onto those she loves. This story serves as a powerful reminder of the unbreakable bond between a mother and child and the lengths a mother will go to protect her offspring. It is a story that will touch the hearts of all who hear it and leave a lasting impression.

But ask yourself this: Have you ever lost someone you loved and longed for just one more conversation, one more opportunity to make up for those moments when you took their presence for granted, believing they would always be there? If so, then you understand that you can spend your entire life accumulating days, yet none of them will ever equal the one you yearn to have back.

What if you could actually get that precious day back?

This. Book.

Can that be the entire review? Because I'm truly in a state of shock right now.

Tip~ This is the kind of book that you'll devour in one sitting. So, I'd suggest starting it in the middle of the day, and before you know it, you'll be done by early evening.

This book was simply amazing. Mitch Albom's works were recommended to me by a friend on Goodreads. However, I was completely unprepared for how deeply emotional and eye-opening this book would be. I have a rule that I don't label an author as one of my 'favourite authors' unless I've read more than one of their books. But wow, I can already envision Albom at the very top of my list.

Charley Benetto has completely ruined his life. He's lost his job, shattered his relationship with his family, and resorted to alcohol to numb his pain. There seems to be no hope of turning back for him. No chance of redemption. So, he makes the tragic decision to end his own life.

But doesn't everyone deserve a second chance? When Charley decides that his life should come to an end where it all began, he embarks on his final journey to his hometown. But when he stumbles through the door of his mother's old house, there she is, sitting at the kitchen table, ready to give her son a much-needed reality check.

Is she real? Is he dead? Are they in Heaven? Charley gradually learns that these questions don't really matter. Because wouldn't we all sacrifice everything in the world to spend just one more day with a lost loved one?

This book is the epitome of'short but powerful'. The story unfolds through multiple timelines: the present, the events surrounding his mother's death, Charley's childhood, and then random memories.

These snippets piece together a heart-wrenching story that we're all familiar with. After someone passes away, we realize all the missed opportunities to stand up for them, the countless things we wish we could apologize for, the reasons we couldn't be there, and the longing for one last hug. This is an incredibly emotional read, especially for those who have a specific loved one in their hearts.

Could I rate this book anything less than 5

“You count the hours you could have spent with your mother. It’s a lifetime in itself.” This simple yet profound statement from the book truly hits home. It serves as a powerful reminder that the time we have with our loved ones is incredibly short and precious. We often take for granted the moments we could have spent with them, only to realize later that those hours could have added up to a lifetime of memories and experiences.

The book also makes us understand that we never really lose the people we truly love. Their presence and influence continue to shape our lives long after they are gone. It makes us appreciate the sacrifices our parents made for our happiness, sacrifices that we may have never even realized or fully understood.

This is a wonderful and moving read that forces us to acknowledge the love of our parents in its purest form. It is a book that will make you reflect on your own relationships with your loved ones and cherish the time you have with them. It is truly awesome and a must-read for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of family and love.

The story of a man who somehow finds the opportunity to be with his deceased mother for a day.

From those books that are sometimes boring but you want to finish them and you become more and more ashamed of your behavior with your parents. Check Bento and his behaviors are our own. All the selfishness and rudeness are in the behavior with our parents.

Overall, the book was average.

However, it does make one think about the importance of treating our parents with respect and kindness. We often take them for granted and don't realize how much they have done for us until it's too late. This story serves as a reminder to cherish the time we have with our loved ones and to make the most of every moment.

Perhaps we should all take a step back and reflect on our own behavior towards our parents. Are we showing them the love and appreciation they deserve? If not, maybe it's time to make a change and start treating them better. After all, they are the ones who brought us into this world and have supported us throughout our lives.

I read this book when I was on a plane from London to Indonesia via Hong Kong.

During the entire journey, I cried like a baby. I swear, if the people sitting on my left and right hadn't been my friends, I would have been regarded as a crazy girl crying for no reason.

Reading this book made me deeply realize how much I have taken my mum for granted. It truly opened my eyes and revealed to me just how big and everlasting a mother's love can be, despite all the hardships and difficulties that have been endured by her.

Mummy, I LOVE YOU!!!!

It is through this book that I have come to understand the depth of my mother's love and the importance of cherishing her. I will never forget this experience and will always strive to show my love and appreciation for her.

Have you ever lost someone you love and wished you could talk to them again, have another chance to make up for the time you thought would last forever?

In this case, you know that if you add up all the days of your life, none of them will weigh as much as the day you long for its return.

What if that day comes back?

It would be a moment of great significance and perhaps a chance to heal the wounds of the past.

We often take the people we love for granted, not realizing how precious they are until they are gone.

Losing someone can be a painful experience, but it can also make us appreciate the value of life and the importance of those we hold dear.

If we are given a second chance, we should make the most of it and cherish every moment with that person.

We should tell them how much we love them and how much they mean to us.

Because in the end, it is the memories we create with the people we love that truly matter.

Before reading "For One More Day", I had only read one book by Mitch Albom, which was "Tuesdays with Morrie". I read that book about seven years ago and although I don't remember much about the story except the basic outline, I still remember how much I loved it. It was one of my favourite books of all time. I knew then that I had to give his other books a try. That's one of the main reasons why I picked up this book. The other reason was that I saw it in the library and just had to pick it up.

The plot of this book is based on a very simple concept. The idea of having one more day with someone you love, someone you couldn't show enough love to when they were alive, and someone you deeply regret not having in your life for the amount of time they deserved. It's all about that one more day and what can happen in that one day. This is the story of Charley "Chick" Benetto and how he got to have that one day with his mother. He discovers things on this day that he would have never imagined to be true. He realizes how much he failed and how he could have changed things if only he had been a better man, a better person, and a better boy.

Reading this book was a real eye-opener for me. Almost a year ago, my maternal grandfather passed away. I realized then how fragile life is. I hated myself for not spending enough time with him when I could. He was always calling me to visit, but I never had the time because I had to study. That day, I realized how pointless all of it was. Yes, studying is important, but it shouldn't come at the expense of spending time with the people we love. And so, I decided to spend more time with my parents. However, as time passed, that plan also faded away. But this book made me remember all of those feelings. I can't bear to lose my parents. It would be too traumatic. And this book made me realize just how traumatic it would be.
This book, in which the protagonist meets his mother for one more day and learns about her life and shows us things about his life, helped me improve myself. It had a certain magic to it that only Albom seems to possess. Similar to the previous book I read, this one also had a theme that was close to my heart and probably every other reader's too.
In conclusion, I want to say that Mitch Albom never disappoints. Reading this story in his words made my day. It was a terrifying experience because it made me realize just how important other people are to us and how we shouldn't let the ones we care about drift away. So, don't forget to keep your tissues nearby because you're going to need them a lot!

How is it that some people just write better and better?

It's truly a mystery. Take Mitch Albom, for example. His books have never disappointed.

Reading this particular one while sitting on a sick bed hits way too hard.

We often have a tendency to take the people around us for granted. But once they are gone, the guilt starts to creep in, along with all those "what ifs?"

What if you were given a chance to meet someone you lost for just one more day?

This is the kind of thought-provoking question that Albom's story poses. It's a brilliant story that makes you stop and think about the value of the people in your life and how quickly things can change.

It's a reminder to cherish every moment with those we love and not to take them for granted.

Albom has a way of touching the hearts of his readers and making them feel a whole range of emotions.

This story is no exception and is sure to stay with you long after you've finished reading it.

Some books are not confined to a particular age group as they hold something precious for everyone brave enough to immerse themselves in their profound ocean of mindful thinking. Mitch Albom's 'For One More Day' is precisely that kind of book.

Charley Benetto, a deeply depressed man on the verge of a desperate suicide, has his life transformed by his last wish - a ride down the memory lane through his old house.

“Behind all your stories is always your mother's story. Because hers is where yours begin.” This profound statement sets the tone for Charley's journey. One last day with his late mother allows him to delve into her life, facing the instances when they stood by each other and the times when he failed to be there for her. This experience helps Charley look back on his life with perhaps fewer regrets.

“You can be a mama's boy, be a daddy's boy, but you can't be both. So you cling to the one you think you might lose.” This book is short, simple, yet stunning and a powerful eye-opener. It leaves a lasting impression on your conscience, with a thought-provoking message: Do you spend enough time with your parents while they're still around? Do you truly know them as well as you think you do? Have you been there for them in their moments of joy and grief? Do you know their most troubled secrets?

The characters, Charlie and his mother, are endearing. You feel their emotions through their stories. You experience the pride Possey feels for raising a son with all her love and care, while also empathizing with Charlie's shortcomings as a son. However, through Charlie's flaws, you begin to love him even more.

The writing is as simple as can be, which is something I have always admired about Albom's books. He creates a whirlwind of sensations, leaving readers exhilarated with the use of the simplest words and phrases.

There is little that is peculiar about this story, but the abundance of emotions shared between the son and mother will change the way you view your parents, the extent of your involvement in their lives, and the intensity of your care for them. There is so much to learn from this small but impactful book, especially the lesson to never take one's parents for granted and to love them unconditionally, just as they love you.

“and that's the thing when your parents die, you feel like instead of going into every fight with backup, you are going into every fight alone.” Having recently lost my father, I can fully understand Charlie's plight and pleasures upon this chance encounter with his mother whom he lost eight years ago. I wish all of us could be as lucky as him.

I really, truly hate this book!!

I hate it with a passion because of how bitterly it made me cry :'(

Dear Mom, I know I might not have been the ideal son for you. There were so many times when I scolded you over the most trivial of reasons. I am deeply sorry for all the wrongdoings I have committed against you. Even though I constantly tell myself that I love you so very much, I have never really lived up to that in my actions. I ignored you, I failed to give you the attention that you so richly deserved. I don't think I have given back even a measly 5% of what you have selflessly given to me throughout your entire life. But despite my blatant ignorance, you never once felt sad. Instead, you always strived with all your might to make me happy and content :'( I just... I truly wish that I could start all over again and treat you in the way that you are supposed to be treated. I have always loved you, mom... and I promise you that I always will. You deserve to be showered with an abundance of love, care, and attention. Several years from now, I don't want to look back at the past and have that feeling of regret constantly lingering in my heart, thinking that maybe I could have spent more precious time with you.

I love you, mom. I really, really do :'(

This book has made me realize the true value and importance of a mother.

It's never too late to start afresh.

It's never too late to be a good son for your mother :).
